My first thought is how disgusting Mint Julips are so I will be having a few BEERS.
To me I believe there are 3 horses I could list on top.
2-Steppenwolfer
7- Bob and John
8- Barbaro
The arguments against the 2 are "He hasn't beaten Lawyer Ron in 3 tries". My thought is Lawyer Ron appears to be a horse for the course at Oaklawn, speed and front runner favoring. I really was impressed in how 'wolfer maneuvered through the field at the Ark Derby, an important trait in the derby. I also LOVED the effort 2 back in the Rebel. The 5 wide comment looked more like 6-7 to me as the inside horse was well off the rail at the turn.
The 7 Bob and John sure was impressive in the Wood pressing the pace and taking over. He came out of the race in great shape, posting 2 bullets and a great 7f work.
Barbaro does nothing but win and if workouts are any indication he sure likes Churchill.
A few comments on others I believe will be getting some play...
Jazill- I wasn't impressed with the "strong" close at the Wood due to the slow final fractions and it appearred to me that the Jocks in the front eased a bit at the end.
Sinister Minister should set the pace and feel a BUNCH of pressure from the other front runners here. Also a front running win at Keeneland is downgraded by me as this track is traditionally speed favoring. Storm Treasure I think is a better choice out of this race with more upside.
Point Determined - Second best in 5 horse race doesn't impress me. Placed to AP carrying 116 2 back
Cause to believe seems to have emptied after the Ill Derby. A bullet at GG again doesn't impress and his work at CD is average.
Lawyer Ron - Again I trink he is at his best at Oak and there is TOOOO much speed here.
I have other opinions but for now 2-7-8 all to win and an exacta box.
Enjoy the Sport of Kings my friends......it only gets better from here!!!!!
