    Wizard's Crystal Ball:

#2 KIKI B (Race 1) TURF ONLY! While this filly has a strong chance on dirt, I like her chances on turf even better. Since coming off a 6-month layoff to begin her 3yo campaign she?s been much improved, possibly due to normal growth and maturity and possibly due to a trainer change. She wired her field impressively June 17 off the layoff, then returned August 8. In that race she was bet down to 5-1 early before eventually going off at 13-1, and she nearly won, finishing a close 2nd after making a prolonged bid in the stretch. Her last three workouts have all been on turf, and she now gets a chance to race over the grass. Her dam is a half sister to four turf winners and Kiki B?s only prior turf try was a troubled trip against open company. Coa stays.
#1 TOWERING ESCAPE (Race 4) TURF OR DIRT. On turf or dirt I like either of these fillies, and if both run it just makes them twice as tough. TOWERING ESCAPE is by tremendous young sire Giant?s Causeway, who?s getting top class runners on both turf and dirt. Dam Rapunzell was stakes placed at age 2 and is a half sister to multiple G1 winner Affirmed Success, who ran great on turf and dirt. Pletcher wins 23% first time out and filly shows four 5F turf works for her debut, so she should certainly handle the grass. J?RAY needed her debut in a dirt sprint and now stretches out. She?s better bred for routes than sprints and Pletcher wins 29% with the sprint-to-route move. Sire was a top turf miler in Europe and 2 of J?ray?s 4 siblings to race on turf won. Baileystays aboard.

#4 EXCHANGE BAY (Race 7) TURF ONLY! Facing allowance horses for most of her career, this mare drops in with claimers for the first time since her rousing 4-length win for this tag back on January 16. She lost by just one length vs. much tougher company in a strong, ?key? race May 12, but then steadied early in a stakes race June 19 and had a bad trip all around. She?s been freshened and pointed to this meet, having won here in the past. She can stalk or rally and is working consistently.

6 TIFFANY'S RODEO 9/2 Stalker has hit the board in 6 of her last 7 starts. Those races have all been on turf, but her dam was a turf stakes winner and Tiffany?s Rodeo was not as good as she is now when she last tried turf.
7 RED SNOONY 7/2 The only turf winner in this field, this filly was a solid 4th facing perhaps a better field last out.
5 GREAT LADY K 4/1 Half sis to G3 winner Spite The Devil switches to Prado, who?s won 3 of last 7 for Jerkens.

1 YES I MAY 7/5 Finished 3rd in both starts but showed clear improvement last time out when just a neck behind Zippy Missy, who returned with an impressive win in her next start. Appears ready to graduate in a weak field.
5 KARAKORUM STARLET 9/2 Didn?t have a good trip in debut but split her field. Positive rider change. Improves.
2 MT LANGFUHR 4/1 Caught slop in debut & raced evenly after a bad start. Half to G3 John Little should improve.

5 VROOM HILDA 2/1 Productive mare has finished first or 2nd in 6 of her lat 8 and is set to peak in her third start off a short break. She stalked a front-running winner over a speed-biased track last time out and finished well clear of 3rd. She?s run well in both prior starts at 7F and projects to sit fairly close to an expected tepid pace.
3 GOLD DANCER 9/2 Can either lead or sit close and get first run. She drops in class while coming off a 9-month layoff but Stan Hough is solid off such layoffs at 16% and this filly finished 2nd in both prior starts on this track.
2 CHUNK OF LOVE 4/1 Gets a big drop in class to race for a tag for the first time. Late runner is 1 for 1 at 7F.
1 MISS PARK PLACE 8/1 Has a habit of winning at big odds and could be set to peak third start off a short layoff.

3 GIRL IN UNIFORM 5/1 Young sire gets 26% first out winners and this $125,000 2yo purchase is out of a daughter of top class turf miler Royal Academy. Rice is having a great meet and has 4 wins with Cornelio Velasquez up.
5 DIXIELAND SQUALL 6/1 Overmatched in a stakes race in turf debut and also caught yielding ground. Half sister to G3 turf route winner Queen Of Wilshire adds blinkers, drops in class, and should get firm turf for first time.
9 BLENNY 6/1 Bad post, but she shows a very quick turf work that suggests she?ll like the surface change today.

2 SKU 7/2 In a field loaded with speed this late runner gets a perfect set up. He won 2 of 3 turf starts this spring, and those wins came breaking from terrible posts.Drops in class after being victimized by a slow pace July 23.
1 QUIET PERIOD 6/1 Ran better than appears when 3rd in his last turf try. He was hard held early, steadied along, altered course in the stretch, and finished well. Versatile runner is expected to take back and stalk here.
6 LOOK NO FURTHER 9/2 Faced tougher older allowance horses in turf debut. Pletcher wins 29% sprint-to-route.
4 MAXIMUM ODDS 8/1 Two turf tries have produced a win and a nose loss. Voss way overdue for winners here.

5 RECORD BUSTER 2/1 After going undefeated in his first 3 starts Bobby Frankel thought enough of this colt to jump him up into Grade 1 competition. Unfortunately, Record Buster was gunned to set much too fast a pace and he wasn?t abused when tiring badly. He now drops in class, shortens, and shows four bullet works for this.
1 TIGER HEART 9/5 A switch to the Dutrow barn did this colt a world of good, as he ran a hole in the wind first time out for Dutrow on July 16. If he matches the effort he?ll be tough but he steps up in class here. Prado up.
1A BAILERO 9/5 3 for 5 since moving to Dutrow?s barn, and this 6yo has excelled during his career at this 7F trip.
7 POTRISUNRISE 6/1 Has won his last five sprints in a row and won impressively last out after being RE-claimed.

1 FORGOTTEN PROMISE 10/1 Looks like the controlling speed while also drawing the good rail post. Prado stays.
7 POSITIVELY WILD 4/1 Just 1 for 17 on turf, but that win came last time out when beating an odds-on favorite.

2 MY TYPHOON 3/1 Half sister to European champion Galileo has gotten better with every start this year and comes off a very game stakes win at today?s distance. She?s 3 for 4 with Bailey riding and can lead or stalk.
5 WAIT IT OUT 12/1 Price play had a bad trip last out. She was shuffled back early, then steadied behind a wall of horses in upper stretch. It was her first try with blinkers and she can surprise today at a price. Huge work 8/10.
1 READY'S GAL 2/1 May be the pacesetter from the good rail. Undefeated in two turf starts for top connections.

5 HE DICHO 7/2 Huge ?educational? race in debut and now improves for Zito. who wins 32% second out. He Dicho broke slowly & awkwardly, fell far back, made a big rail move into the stretch, & missed 2nd by a head & neck.
8 JUST IN FUN 5/2 May have been best off a long layoff Aug 6 but broke slowly, then rallied wide vs. a speed bias.
1 CARDINAL RULE 9/2 Both runners have shown enough in their dirt starts to factor in this field. Each can stalk or rally.
1A NOTADROPTODRINK 9/2 Both runners have shown enough in their dirt starts to factor in this field. Each can stalk or rally.
10 QUESTIONING 8/1 Never raced on dry dirt. Trainer is 3 for his last 8 turf-to-dirt. Was favored in last two starts.

The Wizard's Simulcast Best Bets for Friday, August 19th, 2005

    Introduction
With the advent of full card simulcasting just about everywhere, handicappers are no longer limited to play just one track. When you factor in that horse races are televised directly into homes via cable or satellite dish, opportunities are endless for bettors to watch and wager on a vast array of racetracks. Because of this recent boon, the Wizard's Simulcast Best Bets Sheet was developed for handicappers wishing to play multiple tracks, but don't necessarily have the time or desire to handicap the multitude of races. The Simulcast Best Bets is comprised of all the Crystal Ball selections for every track The Wizard provides full card selections for. In addition, the popular Wizard's Pick of the Day is included in the report. Detailed analysis is provided for each selection contained in the Simulcast Best Bets sheet along with a comprehensive wagering strategy to serve as a guide for you to use so that you may properly bet the race in an effort to maximize profits. As a final point, The Simulcast Best Bets Sheet is not only intended to alert you to the best plays on any given day, but also a tool to assist you with your betting, a wagering guide if you will. Remember, good gambling can sometimes overcome bad handicapping, but good handicapping never compensates for bad gambling! Available Wednesday through Sunday and Monday Holidays.

EVERY EFFORT HAS BEEN MADE TO ENSURE THE ACCURACY OF THE PROGRAM NUMBERS PROVIDED. HOWEVER, IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU VERIFY ALL PROGRAM NUMBERS WITH THE OFFICIAL TRACK PROGRAM PRIOR TO WAGERING!

    Arlington Park

    Arlington Park Race 7 (6:48)
#2 PURELY CLASSIC (3/1) 5 yo Sky Classic gelding has run well on the turf having finished on the board in 10 of 17 career starts while facing much stronger company. Returned from nearly a year on the sidelines this season making first start since coming under the care of trainer Michael Stidham. Turned in game win at today's mile distance on the lawn at Lone Star in May and came back to miss by a neck his next start. Faded in last but ships to Arlington taking a big drop in class now and should handle these with no problem. Guidry in the irons is a positive sign.

Wagering Strategy: Win bet on #2. Exactas: 2 over 5 - 7 - 9. Reverse for equal amounts. TURF ONLY!

    Arlington Park Race 10 (8:15)
#6 NATIONAL PARK (7/2) 6 yo turned in hug effort in first U.S. start last year coming back from long layoff for Bobby Frankel. Was forced back on the sidelines for nearly another year and after one race was moved to the barn of trainer Paul McGee. Has moved forward with each start for new connections and finished good 4th at this mile distance here last out while taking a huge drop in class. Horse obviously has his problems but appears to have regained form now and can find the winner's circle today for first time in a long time while taking yet another major drop in class. Campbell has the call.

Wagering Strategy: Win bet on #6. Exactas: 6 over 1 - 2 - 3. Reverse for equal amounts.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Del Mar

    Del Mar Race 3 (7:30)
#3 THE YELLOW SHEET (3/1) Last year at this meet this mare won over this course and distance when coming off a short layoff. She then stepped up to this class level and lost by less than a length in her next start, also at this trip. She went off form after that, but looked very good when returning from a layoff July 21. In that race she brke a bit slowly from post 1, stalked the pace, but was stuck in traffic for much of the stretch. She only lost by 1-1/4 lengths in a race she probably needed anyway, but the traffic also didn't help her cause. I expect her to be sharper from start to finish today, and she also projects to sit a great stalking trip in a field that has lots of speed signed on. Corey Nakatani was aboard for her last two wins and was also aboard for her return race July 21, and he's about as good as they come on turf.

Wagering Strategy: A win bet on (3)THE YELLOW SHEET; Exacta 3-1, reverse for less; Smaller exactas 3-5, 3-8, reverse each for less.

    Del Mar Race 6 (9:00)
#3 CHEROOT (5/2) This steadily improving 4yo has thrived since moving to turf and stretching out to routes. He dueled through a fast pace and won his first such race on June 17 at 8-1 after breaking from an outside post. Stepping up in class to face allowance company on July 23, he again broke from an outside post, sat just off the pace in 2nd, and took over in the stretch, only to get caught in the final yards. He can sit a similar trip today behind probable pacesetter JJ Jake, and he gets a better post than he's had in his last two starts. Flores fits this colt like a glove and remains aboard.

Wagering Strategy: A win bet on (3)CHEROOT; Exacta part-wheel 3 over 5-8-10, reverse for half as much.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Ellis Park

    Ellis Park Race 3 (2:37)
#2 JUST MILITARY (4/1) 2 yo Military colt has flashed good speed in both career starts at Churchill for trainer Merrill Scherer. Has been freshened and expect winning effort from this colt today moving to the turf for which he is well bred to handle for barn that has solid stats going dirt to turf. Will receive second lasix and although moves up to msw company doesn't face as strong as group here that he did in previous two starts. Barn has done well here at Ellis winning nearly 70% of their starts and keeps Mojica aboard who has won at a clip of 26% when riding for this barn.

Wagering Strategy: Win bet on #2. Exactas: 2 over 3 - 4. Reverse for equal amounts.

    Ellis Park Race 7 (4:38)
#3 SOPHETTE (9/2) 4 yo filly was claimed by trainer John Fahey in early May of this year at Churchill and scored game win second out for new barn. Beat half the field cutting back to 7f last out after a wide trip and although moves up in class today can surprise. Has been freshened which is a move this barn excels with as is moving their horses to the turf for the first time showing a excellent return. Filly has the breeding to handle the grass and should also benefit from the added ground. Keeps Borel in the irons who has done quite well riding for Fahey winning at a clip of 45% on the year.

Wagering Strategy: Win and place bet on #3. Turf Only!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Monmouth Park

    Monmouth Park Race 1 (1:15)
#3 GENUITY (8/5) It is unusual to see a 3yo filly at this level that is as consistent and tough as Genuity. Second or better in her last 5 tries, she comes off game decisions over Megan Popz and Lady Byar, two fillies that have recently beaten tougher fields. She was taken last out by top claiming trainer Kelly Breen, who continues to win at a 36% clip overall. She went wire to wire last out, but is just as effective as a presser. Go-to rider Elliott takes the call.

Wagering Strategy: A win bet on #3, Trifecta: 3 over 1-6 over ALL.

    Monmouth Park Race 3 (2:05)
#6 WINGED PHILLY (5/2) Halo's Image filly has split her time between turf and dirt, however she has looked much better sprinting on the main track. She was not badly beaten in her last start, going a mile on the grass against a 2nd tier allowance field. Today she drops into a claimer for the first time and cuts back to her preferred trip. The speedsters Plain N Fancy and Tri Like The Devil should set a fast enough pace to make her late run effective.

Wagering Strategy: A win bet on #6.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Saratoga

    Saratoga Race 1 (1:00)
#2 KIKI B (5/2) TURF ONLY! Coa stays.

    Wagering Strategy: TURF ONLY!! A win bet on (2)KIKI B; Trifecta: 2 over 5-6-7 over ALL = $15 for a $1 wager

    Saratoga Race 4 (2:36)
#1 TOWERING ESCAPE (7/5) TURF OR DIRT.

Wagering Strategy: TURF OR DIRT: A win bet on (1)ENTRY at even money or better. Cold exacta 1 - 3. No reverse.

Wizard's Pick of the Day for Friday, August 19th, 2005

Making a consistent profit at the races requires both discipline and selecting the right spots on a daily basis. Lack of conviction coupled with a shotgun approach to wagering is often the downfall of many handicappers. The WIZARD offers this product designed to address those problems and help players make money with one select Pick of the Day. The Wizard's Pick of the Day is that one special horse that the Wizard has deemed the best wager of any horse running that day. The Pick of the Day is available 7 days per week and may be found at any racetrack commonly simulcasted throughout the country.

She lost by just one length vs. much tougher company in a strong, ?key? race May 12, but then steadied early in a stakes race June 19 and had a bad trip all around. Thanks Rip- I am not sure of betting any of this but will watch the results. It is a nice write up.
