SANTA ANITA -- Race #8 -- BAR LEAH (#9)
__________________________________________________ __________________
Today's 8th and final race is the second heat for $32,000 maiden claiming three year old fillies. Par is a 94. Our speed figures report points to BAR LEAH as the filly to beat. This daughter of Bartok ran too fast to lose in her most recent start. BAR LEAH earned figures of 95-94+ while finishing second to her stable mate Heavenly Lilly. The two O'Neill trained fillies finished well ahead of their rivals that day while both earning figures better than today's 94 par. Tyler Baze should get a great stalking or pace setting trip as BAR LEAH has good enough speed to take this field wire to wire.
My hope is that the rail filly LAS VEGAS DANCER still has her fans even though she has not raced in about seven months. LAS VEGAS DANCER has been the post time favorite in three of her four lifetime starts. This filly doesn't quite have the fire power to match BAR LEAH and the layoff won't exactly help her chances. LAS VEGAS DANCER had the looks of a "hanger" last year as she normally lost lengths or places in deep stretch.
I will play BAR LEAH as a key WIN bet and single in the exotics. If BAR LEAH runs up the score late, look for some longshots to complete the underside of the exactas and trifectas. Good luck!
