SANTA ANITA -- Race #1 -- SCRIPTRESS (#2)

Today's first race is a $32,000 maiden claiming sprint for fillies and mares four years old and upward. Par is a 95. Second time starters and Maiden Special Weight droppers tend to dominate maiden claiming races. For today's spot play, we're getting both of those positive handicapping angles. SCRIPTRESS (3-1) is a four year old filly with quite a bit of upside potential as she makes only her second lifetime start and first against maiden claimers.
SCRIPTRESS shipped north to Golden Gate Fields for her debut run versus Maiden Special Weights. Trainer John Shirreffs must have known he didn't have her 100% cranked to fire first time out, because he felt she needed to try easier company at "The Gate". Well, of her only three recorded works going into that race, SCRIPTRESS had no gate experience. She didn't know much about the start and spotted the field more than five lengths just a few jumps out of the gate. SCRIPTRESS did manage to earn debut figures of 91-92+ which included a solid 22.6 move around the turn. If SCRIPTRESS gets a few lengths of improvement today, she should be very tough. It's also worth mentioning that Shirreffs has given SCRIPTRESS two strong gate works since raced. Good luck!
