    SANTA ANITA -- Race #8 -- HARVARD AVENUE (#5)
    __________________________________________________ __________________

Today's 8th race is an optional $62,500 claiming or allowance N2x sprint for three year olds and upward. Par for this level is a 107. This race looks like a very good spot to be making a comeback. Most of the horses in this race seem a bit tired after a long hard summer campaign.

Based on our speed figures report, SUNSET PLACE (3-1) and HARVARD AVENUE (8-1) look like the most logical contenders. SUNSET PLACE is a five year old horse making his seventh start at this very level. It's hard to believe that a horse who hasn't won since 2002 could still be considered a contender. SUNSET PLACE may lack that "killer instinct" as far as winning is concerned. However, based on recent and past figures as well as his overall record over this track, SUNSET PLACE should be respected.

HARVARD AVENUE will get the call as spot play for Opening Day of the Oak Tree meet. This lightly raced three year old has been freshened since this past spring and looks fit and ready for his fall debut. Doug O'Neill has placed HARVARD AVENUE in a realistic spot for his return to racing. While racing Grade 2 three year olds this past winter at Santa Anita, HARVARD AVENUE posted route figures of 108-104-106+ at the 108 level. His next best set of figures came in the Arkansas Derby. HARVARD AVENUE finished fourth to Smarty Jones with figures of 102-102-106+ at the 109 Grade 2 level. HARVARD AVENUE has a touch of class and should perform very well versus this group.

My wagering strategy will call for a straight bet on HARVARD AVENUE and one strong exacta combo to SUNSET PLACE. Good luck!
