Belmont Park Race Race 7 Gr. I Futurity Play #4 Fusaichi Rock Star
Already one of the early favorites for the 2005 Kentucky Derby, based on a decent but not spectacular maiden win at Del Mar. Brilliant workouts since. Desormeaux in to ride. Owner, who owned 2001 Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus, will be in from Japan to see this horse run and trainer Bob Baffert, who has already compared the horse to Silver Charm, will be in from California. That's a lot of interest from the connections. Hype is on but it may be deserved.

Hoosier Park Race 5 Play #5 Pine Valley
From the 115th running of a classic Grade I in New York to cheap $4000 claimers at Hoosier. Same jockey and trainer combo that ran third as my lone Saturday best bet. This race is limited to horses with no more than two wins this year and that fits this horse, as he has been off since June after winning two of his four 2004 races. In addition to the fact that the trainer dominates this meet, the key here is the unusual 5 1/2 furlong distance----at which this horse is 3-for-3! Make it 4-for-4.

YTD: -$125 (based on $10 to win and place on all selections)

    Recap

    One-for-two.

Fusaichi Rock Star slowed badly in the stretch in a slow running of the Futurity. At Hoosier, Pine Valley held on to win at odds of 7-5 paying $5.00 to win and $3.20 to place.

Wagered: $40 (based on $10 to win and place on all selections)
    Cashed: $41

    Profit: +one measly buck

    YTD: -$124
