DEL MAR -- Race #4 -- TABLE OF CONTENTS (#3)
__________________________________________________ __________________
The 4th race is a 6 furlong maiden claiming sprint for fillies. Par is a 94. The Md25000 sprint won by CharlenesSuperBlend on August 4th looks like a "key" race that you can use to produce multiple next-out winners. The pace/speed figures were 96-99 for the 94 level so the pace was a very solid 96 and the final was 5 lengths better than the 94 par! Charlene's drew off to win by 5 lengths and then validated the strong rating by coming right back to beat a field of open $25,000 claiming fillies with another big effort. The 4th place finisher in the strong Aug. 4th sprint was Glow of Love and that filly just beat maiden claimers on Thursday when stretched out in distance. TABLE OF CONTENTS (3-1) and DA SVEDONYA (6-1) are the two fillies in today's race that come out of the key race.
TABLE OF CONTENTS ran a huge race and earned a 91-93+ in an effort that also gives her multiple reasons for further improvment. The past performance comment reads "off slow, squeezed" and I don't think it was as much of a factor of breaking slowly as it was that she was pinned down in the 2 slot in a 12 horse field. If you are an inexperienced maiden claimer and don't show big speed early to get clear of the inside then you are going to have trouble getting mid-pack by the time all the horses from the outside merge down toward the rail.
TABLE OF CONTENTS was squeezed early and that forced her all the way back to 9th early but she put in an eye-catching rally on the far turn and began passing horses like they were nailed to the track. She had pulled into 5th and within 5 lengths at the top of the lane and after the big run around the far turn I would have fully expected her to tire badly in the stretch. She did lose ground to the runaway winner down the stretch but did a great job of fighting on for a solid 3rd place finish. Both horses in front of her had the advantage of an outside post that day. The solid finish put her within a length of DA SVEDONYA and just ahead of next-out winner Glow of Love. Typical 2nd time improvement should put her in the winner's circle. Kent Desormeaux is out of town today but it's key that leading rider Tyler Baze jumps aboard. She has two solid workouts since the last race and all systems are "go".
DA SVEDONYA has 10 losses on her record already which is why I sided with TABLE OF CONTENTS but DA SVEDONYA is on an improving pattern and is now a contender to notch her first win. She got the far outside in the race won by Charlene's and showed the best pace figure of her career and combined it with her best final figure while earning a 95-94+. That race would plot her right on top in here but I don't see as many reasons for improvement so the edge goes to TABLE OF CONTENTS.
TABLE OF CONTENTS is the spot play win choice and key to exotics over fellow key-race member DA SVEDONYA. Outside of those 2 looks like a good race coming off the layoff for BLUE CAY. Good luck.
