DEL MAR -- Race #7 -- LEST WE FORGET (#2)
__________________________________________________ __________________
The 7th race is the Green Flash Handicap for three year olds and upward. The par level for this five furlong turf event is a 109. This race might offer us some hidden value thanks to the Jeff Mullins (hidden) entry. The morning line favorite is GLICK (2-1). However, Jeff Mullins also sends out the undefeated LEST WE FORGET (9-2) for his first try versus stakes company. Based on our speed figures report, it looks like Golden Eagle Farm has a real nice one in LEST WE FORGET.
Today's spot play honors will go to LEST WE FORGET. This gelding just cleared his allowance N2x conditions with figures of 115-108+ going 5 1/2 furlongs at Hollywood Park. His pace figure of 115 is much faster than par and his 108+ final figure is less than a length below par. I think today's distance of only five furlongs should work well for LEST WE FORGET. Having demonstrated the ability to press any pace thrown at him, LEST WE FORGET has more than enough fire power to notch his first stakes victory.
I can see LEST WE FORGET playing with the nine year old F J'S PACE (until he gets bored) and kicking clear into the stretch. The only danger from there might come from one of the closers. I think only GERONIMO (5-2) or the other Mullins runner GLICK has a chance of catching LEST WE FORGET. I will play LEST WE FORGET straight and cover my bets with exactas keyed to both GERONIMO and GLICK. Good luck!
