YTD: -$87.00 after a fine Sunday. (All plays rated at $10 to win and place)
Saratoga Race 3 Play #2 I Love The Organ
Drops from $50,000 claimers eight days ago, where she ran a credible third, into $35,000 claiming today. She was a best bet for me in her last race and I like her even more in this softer spot. Trainer Chuck Simon has started five horses at the meet so far and has finished third with all five! His horses are obviously running well and he's due to break through with a win. Jerry Bailey, who rode the horse last race, stays aboard. Speed type faded under a hot pace last out but won from a little off the pace three races back at Churchill Downs. I like this play a lot.
Opinion only: I almost made a best bet on #6 Wallstreet Scandal in the second race at Saratoga. It's a two year old maiden race with the typical Saratoga field of horses that look like they all could become stars. Trainer Rick Violette annually wins several of these races and his Wallstreet Scandal seems in a good spot, but Violette is 0-for-8 at the meet and there's a Wayne Lukas trainee that looks strong. I still like the horse to win at a decent price but the two negatives keep me from making it a rated best bet.
