  • Four Sunday Best Bets including the Jim Dandy

    YTD: -$39.50

Saratoga Race 2 Play #2 I Love The Organ
Drops in for $50,000 claiming price after finishing OK fourth in Churchill Downs allowance. Trainer is a Saratoga Springs native who has always done well at this meet. Lures Jerry Bailey to ride. Major four furlong work on July 30 over the track says he's ready.

Saratoga Race 9 Gr. II Jim Dandy Staeks Play #7 Purge
Horse romped two starts back in Peter Pan at Belmont but finished dead last in ill-advised run in Belmont Stakes. Has had two months to recover from that debacle. Strong workouts. Pletcher/Velazquez eating up Saratoga and hit three more on Saturday! Should press lone speed Medallist and pass him in the stretch. This is an especially strong play, but will be rated equal to other best bets.

Saratoga Race 10 Play #4 Onemorefashion
Pick is for TURF ONLY. $50,000 claimers going one mile. Horse won for a $60,000 tag two back at Belmont before running poorly last out at Colonial. But that was merely a set-up for this race. Trainer doing well with limited runners here and hooks up with Prado who won on this horse in the Belmont race. Good tactical speed and excellent third post position.

Del Mar Race 7 Play #4 Nister Bere
Pick is for TURF ONLY. First start as a three year old after racing an unusually high eleven times as a two year old, mostly in Europe. Won only one of those races but was in the money ten times! Finished third last year in a stakes at Hollywood Park in his only U.S. start. Trainer Jeff Mullins is making a mockery of Del Mar meet and uses his go-to rider, Victor Espinoza. Mullins has another runner in this race as well and that should siphon a little betting money away. Stakes horse in the making should win easily.

Al plays rated at $10 to win and place.

Opinion only on the Haskell: Lion Heart.

    recap

My strongest play, Purge, romped in the Jim Dandy but I wasn't bold enough to make him my second double play of the year. Too bad. he was the only winner. I Love the Organ finished third while Onemorefashion faded off the board. I was right about Jeff Mullins winning the Del Mar race, but he did it with his other horse who went off at 20-1! Nister Bere, my pick ran third.

    Wagered: $80
    Cashed: $56

Loss: -$24 on a day that should have been better for this program given that I managed to hit saratoga's pick four.

    YTD: -$63.50
