  • Three Friday best bets

YTD: -$29 (based on $10 to win and place) after my selection Wednesday got nailed at the wire.

Saratoga Race 7 Play #4 Aspen Gal
The key to this allowance race is its unusual condition. It is restricted to three year old fillies who have never won on the turf. This horse has four wins---three in small stakes---and has been facing top graded stakes sprinters all year. No other horse in here has been facing that level of competition. Just missed in only other turf race and that was a Grade II stakes. Frankel-Bailey combo always tough.

Saratoga Race 9 Play #5 Tomorrows Magic
Horse turns back to a sprint after tiring in routes. Hot combo of trainer Pletcher and jockey Velazquez. Meets the horse who beat her in a New York bred stakes race last time out but this distance is more to Tomorrows Magic's suiting. May get 7-2 because of the fade jobs in the last three. That's a steal right now for Pletcher/Velazquez at Saratoga.

Arlington Race 4 Play #5 Liz On Polk Street
Lone speed in small six horse field for fillies with only one win or those who run for a claiming tag of $50,000. The horse that beat my choice last out is back in this race, and is forced to run for the claiming price because of the race conditions. But the last race saw several speed horses dueling. This one will see "Liz" loose on the lead. Monster breeding (A.P. Indy out of a graded stakes winning filly). Lone concern is the owner just fired his trainer and moved his horses, including this one, to an unheralded trainer. But the horse doesn't know his owner is a nut. Should get 2-1 or 5-2.

All plays rated equally at $10 to win and place.

    recap

Hit two winners out of three plays. Aspen Gal paid $5.00 to win and $2.90 to place. Liz on Polk Street paid $7.40 to win and $2.60 to place. Tomorrows Magic ran miserably.

Wagered: $60 (based on $10 to win and place)
    Cashed: $89.50

    Profit: +$29.50

    YTD: +0.50

Back in the black after a slow week, if only by a tiny amount. Bottom line---this program remains slightly ahead of the game against racetrack takeouts.

    Next report Saturday.
