YTD: +$49.50 (based on $10 to win and place)
All three of today's best bets are at Saratoga, which has a sensational Saturday card.
Saratoga Race 2 Play #9 French Horn
Showed speed in first two career starts, almost winning his first and clunking last time while hooking up with potential monster Willyo'the Valley, who races later today and is a contender to win the Travers. Trainer Phil Serpe was torrid last year at Saratoga, particularly when using rider Edgar Prado and they are paired up on this one. Serpe-Prado won a race here yesterday. Faces two strong runners including a strong first time starter from Bobby Frankel but the price should be right and this horse is better than his past performances appear.
Saratoga Race 7 Gr. I Diana Hcp. Play #3 Intercontinental
Meets toughest field yet after going 3-for-3 in U.S. for trainer Bobnby Frankel. Stretches out in distance, a Frankel specialty. Top grass rider in Bailey. Strong record means she'll be the heavy favorite and while contenders Ocean Drive and Wonder Again are sitting on big races, this horse's stalking style is perfect. Pick is for TURF ONLY (it's highly unlikely they'd take a Grade I off the turf anyway, even if it rains as expected).
Saratoga Race 10 Play #6 Pericles
Chance to get the red hot team of trainer Todd Pletcher and rider John Velazquez at a decent price. Clunked last out to lose by eight at this entry level allowance condition but that was to a top horse in Ice Wynnd Fire. Lots of speed in here but this one has the best speed. Third start of the year and off a five week layoff as Pletcher seemed to be saving this one for a race at this condition level at Saratoga. Presence of a Frankel-Bailey horse and another coming off a huge speed figure help get us up to 4-1. Take it.
Again, all place rated at $10 to win and place.
