  • Best Bets Coast to Coast for Sunday

YTD: +$108.50 after hitting my biggest play of the year yesterday (see yesterday's thread for details)

All plays rated at $10 to win and place for grading purposes

Belmont Park Race 1 Play #5 Mt. Majesty
Second time starter figures to improve big time in his second start. First time lasix. Trainer rarely hits first out making this horse's third place finish in his debut all the more impressive. Will be favored and meets two others sitting on big races but outclasses this field.

Belmont Park Race 3 Play #2B Candy Striper
Play is good for turf OR dirt. First time starter is coupled in wagering with #2 Our Rose; this play is good only if Candy Striper starts or both start. Son of first crop sire Fusaichi Pegasus goes for top two-year old trainer Todd Pletcher. Race is carded for grass and Pletcher excels at two year old maiden grass sprints but the race is likely to be switched to the main track. Doesn't matter. This horse is likely to win either way.

Belmont Park Race 4 Play #1 Exclusive Print
Yet another Belmont maiden race that I like a lot. This horse lost its first and only race last year at Laurel by more than 24 lengths, but still finished third beating four horses! That's because the winner, Forest Music ran a monster race and has gone on to become a solid three year old filly sprinter. This horse, off for the last nine months, now joins trainer Mike Hushion's barn. Hushion's horses excel on wet tracks and that's what's expected today. Meets a miserable field of maiden fillies. Should show unexpected speed.

Arlington Park Race 5 Play #2 Prospect Green
Only at Arlington, home of America's best turf course, could they fill a field of $40,000 claimers going a marathon mile-and-a-half on grass. This horse is a stickout, having finished second last out in a small handicap race at the same distance and winning a $30,000 claimer at the same ultra-long distance the racee before that. Lone negative is that the horse prefers soft turf and won't get it today but is probably way too good anyhow.

Ellis Park Race 7 Play #2 Keep The Feeling
Track's top rider, who gets whatever he wants at Ellis, hops aboard in this grass allowance race. Hot trainer. Improving three year old filly with great breeding. Two so-so races in a row at Churchill Downs but meets easier. Likely to be second choice in betting.

Del Mar Race 7 Play #10 Sweet Lips
Switches from turf to dirt for trainer Bobby Frankel who always does well at Del Mar. Gets stalking trip from outside post (which has not been the right style or track position the first few days of the meet) but adds blinkers--a big Frankel plus---and is freshened off a two month layoff---another Frankel strength. Likely to be a future stakes horse. May get 3-1.

Opinions only (not official rated plays) on Del Mar's two stakes.
Bing Crosby Hcp: #2 Revello (could go off at 7-1 in wide open race)
Eddie Read Hcp (also a Grade I):#6 Vangelis (could be 5-1 in another wide open race with many legit contenders).

    Recap

Blah day. With the scratch of Sweet Lips, I was left with five plays. Mt. Majesty won at about even money, paying $4.10 to win and $2.90 to place. Prospect Green was outfinished in the stretch to finish second at a paltry $2.40 to place. Candy Striper ran third and his entry mate fourth, Exclusive Print contended for awhile and faded and Keep The Feeling stopped badly at Ellis.

Total wagered (based on $10 to win and place): $100
    Cashed: $47
    Loss: -$53

YTD: +$55.50 (still ahead of the game despite onerous racetrack takeouts)

There may be a report weekdays starting Wednesday with the opening of Saratoga but the next certain report will be Saturday.
