HOLLYWOOD PARK -- Race #2 -- AWARD WINNING TEAM (#4)

The 2nd race is a $20,000 claiming sprint at 6 furlongs for 3 year olds and up. Par is a 103. AWARD WINNING TEAM was an impressive winner at the 102 level ($16,000) last time out and looks good to step up a notch to win again tonight. He pushed an average early pace last time and then was full of run while inching away late at 5-1/2 furlongs. The win margin would have been even bigger at 6 furlongs. AWARD WINNING TEAM earned a 100-102 for that effort and has a 109-93+ and 105-102 for his other recent Southern Calif. sprint efforts. Ignore the bad sprint effort 2 starts back since he had shipped to Northern Calif. and that switch often knocks a horse out. I like the rebound with the win last time when switched back to Southern Calif. He should be able to stalk the early pace of GALLOP FAT BOYS and STOCKS ARE RISING and then inch away from them late.
ZOOLU NIGHTS has never been quite as fast on figures as AWARD WINNING TEAM and has a recent best of 104-100+ but the huge improvement last time out was the first time he raced in the barn of excellent trainer Rafael Becerra. ZOOLU has continued to train sharply so he looks ready to run another good effort tonight. He has a very similar style to AWARD WINNING TEAM so both of them will be laying right behind GALLOP FAT BOYS and STOCKS ARE RISING and waiting for an opportunity to pounce.
I'm siding with AWARD WINNING TEAM as the spot play choice in here and will use him as the winner and key to ZOOLU NIGHTS in a backup quinella. Good luck.
