HOLLYWOOD PARK -- Race #7 -- NICOLE AND BEN (#2)
    __________________________________________________ __________________

The 7th race is an allowance race for Cal-bred fillies at 1-1/16 miles on dirt. Par is 101. NICOLE AND BEN (9-2) has been racing and training like she's about to pop a huge effort tonight. She will be dropping from 2 recent Cal-bred stakes races and a strong allowance effort where she did not embarrass herself. She needed her first start of the year when she was beaten soundly at this level but then rebounded by nearly winning an open allowance sprint on turf with a 103-102 set of figures. She was jumped to the brutally strong Melair stakes for Cal-bred 3 year old fillies in her next start and pushed a par pace for the 105 level all the way until the 2nd turn when she let the multiple Baffert stakes winner go but still battled in for 3rd in the 8 horse field. Her 104-105-98 figures from that effort look very good here tonight. She was wheeled back in another turf sprint stakes after that and stalked a strong pace again before not kicking it in late with a 104-99 effort.

NICOLE AND BEN has the right style to get right to the front on a speed-favoring Friday night and she should really appreciate the drop back to this allowance level. She's catching a field full of claiming fillies moving up in class and who have never faced the quality of pace that she has been facing. Her turf sprint from last time out did nothng to dull her speed and the 1:11 and change 6 furlong workout and 2 other good ones since that race make it seem like she's sitting on a huge race tonight. Sadler is a very good trainer and is having an OK meet at 19%. Only major concern here is why Sadler still uses jockey JC Leyva who is winless at the meet. The upside is that Leyva doesn't get many chances on horses with solid figures and you also get higher payoffs than you normally would with Sadler's other 2 main riders Espinoza or Baze.

FREE'S LIL LASS is the major danger on figures but all her best figures have been earned on grass so it's a question whether she will be able to repeat those when wheeled back on dirt. Patrick Valenzuela is on her tonight but she is also hung out in the far outside post which won't help her. NICOLE AND BEN has much better speed but Valenzuela probably would use FREE'S LIL LASS to stay close. That may certainly compromise FREE'S kick so this race should get interesting.

NICOLE AND BEN is the spot play tonight over FREE'S LIL LASS and REASONABLY BRITE. Good luck.
