BEST BET: Shadow Raider (7th race)
First Race:1.Gonetothelake 2. Tackers Girl 3.Wait’tilotisseesus
GONETOTHELAKE was no match for a runaway winner last time when given a big boost up off a maiden victory. She’s dropping to an easier spot here and probably won’t have a speedball loose on the lead.TACKERS GIRL has tried two turns only once, and that was on the turf. She stalked nicely before fading in the lane, but there’s no reason she can’d get this distance, and she should be the one to catch. WAIT’TILOTISSEESUS has never run this cheap. She returned from an eight-month layoff against much better on the turf down south and didn’t do much. Her lone win came in Northern California, and she should be ready for an improved try with one under her belt and this drop.
Second Race:1.Givemethreedimes 2.Eric Da Bomb 3.Dinan
GIVEMETHREEDIMES has won three straight, moving up in class and improving his Beyer each time. He’s been off five weeks since being claimed by leading trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, and he has worked well in the interim with a pair of six-furlong bullet drills in his final two drills for this.ERIC DA BOMB is talented and often underrated. He’ll get a good stalking trip here, and he does have the highest earnings in the field, also the second most wins behind the top pick who beat him two back. DINAN is adept on turf or dirt and is another recent Hollendorfer claim. He has run well here in the past but doesn’t seem quite as good as his entrymate.
Third Race:1.Jeffries Bay 2.Jet West 3.Lunar Lion
A $250,000 yearling purchase, JEFFRIES BAY lived up to expectations in his debut. He was part of a fast pace and kept right on going for an impressive win. He’s had a bullet work since and looks tough right back as a pace play.JET WEST was third behind a stakes winner in his debut last fall, then ran one of the best races of the year by a 2-year-old to break his maiden. He was second in a solid comeback try, and, if he shows the same improvement in his second start this time, he’ll be very tough to handle. Undefeated LUNAR LION has looked good winning his first two starts. There’s a caveat though. He’s the lone runner who has ever run for a tag, and his second victory came in starter allowance company.Still, he’s fast, game and undefeated but faces a major test here.
Fourth Race:1.Riley Style 2.Thresher 3.Aries Rising
RILEY STYLE seems to be putting things together slowly but surely. He’s run second in his past two starts and check out the rider switch to Russell Baze, who was aboard the winner in Riley’s last start.THRESHER has been working at Pleasanton for his debut. The works for this Arizona import have been steady, and he’s not meeting the toughest of seasoned opponents. He gets a nice outside draw and figures to get a good trip here.ARIES RISING has trailed the top pick in both his starts. He didn’t show the same speed in his second start as he did in his debut, but he’s had a solid maintenance work since.Bestofmoose is worth a look because he’s already worked six furlongs as well as five, and longer works before a debut often translate into success.
Fifth Race:1.Easy Vote 2.Bee Faster 3.Epic Dish
EASY VOTE hails from the Dennis Hopkins barn, which shows a $3.72 flat-bet profit with first-time starters. The ones who have previous run have only one thing in common — a lack of speed.A first-timer appears the way to go here, and this filly has a pair of solid gate drills plus a five-furlong work for today’s first start at five furlongs.BEE FASTER was the runner-up when dropped to this level last time. She showed a bit more speed and held on better, but she’ll have to be faster to win here.EPIC DISH ran greenly in his debut. He should improve here, and he has the advantage of meeting much easier in his second start.
Sixth Race:1.Salally Bella 2.Kleven’s Alibi 3.Rosary’s Future
SALALLY BELLA, a $175,000 purchase, has been working nicely for her debut. This is the third straight 2-yearold maiden race on the card, but these are the best juveniles we’ll see today. This one has regular works that are solid but not spectacular. The pattern is typical of leading trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who has a good win percent with first-timers as well as 2-year-olds.KLEVEN’S ALIBI was a runner-up in her first two starts, moving from the claiming ranks to a straight maiden race last time. She lugged out a bit last time and is adding blinkers today. ROSARY’S FUTURE was eliminated at the break in her debut at two furlongs. She was off slowly as she broke off stride, but the beaten favorite did respond well once she got going, although it was too late.
Seventh Race:1.Shadow Raider 2.Speedy Pick 3.No Night
SHADOW RAIDER came within a head of having three straight victories during the current meet.He likes the turf and missed by a head after leading in the lane and then winning in a pair of tries over the Longden Turf Course at this level. The shorter distance won’t hurt, and he has a decent drill since his victory. SPEEDY PICK returned from a four-month layoff to put together a pair of strong tries at this level. He carried his speed better last time when he lost to the top pick but should have no excuses here.NO NIGHT beat the top pick two back and will be a factor here. He needs some help up front and should get it.He could prove tough in the lane.
Eighth Race:1.Another Gear 2.Burst Your Bubble 3.Dandi Candi
ANOTHER GEAR was eliminated against better last time when he stumbled at the start. He quickly got into contention, but his early exertions may have cost him a bit late.He has always proven to be a contender at this level and needs only a good break here. BURST YOUR BUBBLE would prefer to race on turf, but he showed some improvement when shifted back to the dirt last time.He was outfinished by Solders Quest last time but can reverse the order here. DANDI CANDI had been running well against easier. He turned in a career-best Beyer last time and doubles his claiming price today. The jump may be too steep, but he’s going in the right direction.
