Churchill Downs Race Four
TRION GEORGIA is a tough old horse who is capable of throwing a graded stakes caliber performance on his best day. He's cracked the triple digit Beyer plateau over this dirt before and should be ready to roll despite the layoff after a series of sizzling workouts for trainer Robert O'Connor. Rider Calvin Borel usually brings him off the pace and that style would work well with WILDCAT SHOES and COJET setting things up early. Expect WILDCAT SHOES to win that battle but lose the war in the lane to the top choice. CLOCK STOPPER could get involved late, too.
Let's play #5 TRION GEORGIA to win at 2-1 or greater. Suggest an exacta part wheel using #'s 2, 5 / 1, 2, 5 - which will cost $4 for each $1 bet if none scratch.
Churchill Downs Race Eight
MAZEL PIC was unlucky to hook a dominant winner in Cottonuous Peaks last out and will find herself the one to beat this go round. Trainer Mike Maker got a career number from her last out and she is likely to 'pair up' that big try as most 3-year-olds do. Pat Day sticks with the program but there should be enough interest in YASOW KERRI and LEADING LIONESS to keep the price on the top pick sensible.
Let's play #7 MAZEL PIC to win at 9-5 or greater. Suggest exacta and trifecta boxes using #'s 3+5+7. Also start a pick three part wheel using #'s 7/7/ALL - which could cost as much as $16 for each $1 bet but several of the also eligible runners in the finale should scratch. Make sure and use them if they don't - there is hidden value there.
Churchill Downs Race Nine
SUSAN'S ANGEL looked great breaking her maiden May 26 and Wayne Lukas is going to strike while the iron is hot and try to knock out this entry level allowance condition on two weeks rest. Shouldn't be much of a concern looking at that last workout as she sizzled :34 3/5 at Churchill June 6 in preparation for this event. She should be able to shake free from FLY AWAY ANGEL early and hold off the classy QUICK TEMPER in the lane but it will take a repeat of her dominating performance last out to do it. Minor chink in the top pick's armor is that her best races have come in the mud. Be more cautious with her if it is dry.
Let's play #7 SUSAN'S ANGEL to win at 2-1 or greater. Suggest a trifecta box using #'s 1+4+7.
