Best Bet of Day:
Arlington Race 3 Play #6 Visionary
This is a short sprint for two year olds. My pick showed speed versus tougher at Keeneland four weeks ago before fading to a distant fourth. That race was run in a very fast time. As the trainer is rather unknown in Illinois and the previous race was assigned no Beyer rating, odds will be fatter than they should be (maybe as big as 3-1)
Other top plays today:
Arlington Race 4 Play #6
First off the claim at Keeneland for top trainer Tom Amoss. Moves up in claiming price but meets softer field at Arlington. Will be a short price but easy winner.
Pimlico Race 5 -Gr. 3 Gallorette Stakes Play #9 Film Editor
Second race of year at age 4 for horse that won a Grade one for three year old fillies last year. Top rider Edgar Prado up for Maryland based trainer Graham Motion who would love to win on the Preakness undercard. Outisde post is lone worry. Set to fire big.
Pimlico Race 11-Gr.3 Maryland Breeders Cup Play #5 Gracious Humor
This is a six furlong sprint that immediately precedes the Preakness. Hot New York trainer Richard Dutrow ships in with a horse making a big class hike. Dutrow doesn't overspot horses. Even though the purse is $200,000 this is the third string oif East Coast sprinters. May get 4-1 or better.
Belmont Race 4 Play #11 Forcible
Second race of career and first on turf for whiz trainer Michael Dickinson who excels in both categories. Tough outside post and low profile rider help us get a decent price (3-1 or so) for a horse that outclasses the rest if he takes to the turf.
Plays graded on $10 to win and place (double for best bet)
Criteria for plays is best bets based on value
Last week's result: 8 plays. Two wins, four seconds. Based on 10 to win and place on each horse, the day was $13 loser.
Opinion on the Preakness---not a strong play at all:
1. Smarty Jones
2. Rock Hard Ten
3. Borrego
