HOLLYWOOD PARK -- Race #2 -- ESSENCE (#3)

Today's 2nd race is a Maiden Special Weight route for three year old fillies. The par level is a 99. As per our speed figures report, ESSENCE looks very tough to beat in the second half of the early daily double. This Baffert trainee is bred top and bottom for the route game. ESSENCE earned recent sprint figures of 97-99+ in her second career start and first here at Hollywood Park. The winning figures for that race were 99-105+ for the 100 par level.
Baffert has been working ESSENCE with longer stamina building drills to prepare her for a debut around two turns. New rider Nakatani will take over as Santiago will stick with ST. KILDA (bad choice). I like the fact that Baffert is taking the blinkers off ESSENCE for her first route try. I expect to see ESSENCE forwardly placed as soon as the gates fly open. The pace figures from her two sprint races show us that she could lead this race if she wants it.
I'll trust Nakatani to keep her out of trouble and give his filly first run on all the closers.
My wagering strategy will consist of a WIN wager on ESSENCE and two quinella / exacta combos to WILLOW RUSH and longshot LOVE THAT HILL. Good luck!
