    Race of the Day

    Penn National

    Race #7

Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $13,300 Class Rating: 67

Rating: Four Golden Dollars out of Four

    Play: #2 LADY MADELEINE

    Vulnerable Contenders: #6 COMING UP ROSIE (ML=5/2), #4 NANCY PANTS (ML=4/1), #3 D FORTY FOUR (ML=9/2),

COMING UP ROSIE - Don't think this mount will make an impact in today's race. That last speed figure was mediocre when compared with today's class figure. NANCY PANTS - Should be difficult for this horse to beat this field off of that last speed figure. Unlikely to improve enough to run a figure close enough to today's class rating, so put her on the likely underlays list.

LADY MADELEINE - According to my data, dropped down to a more proper level last out. Meeting the same type of field today. I'd calculate a good performance.

    STRAIGHT WAGERS:
#2 LADY MADELEINE to win at post-time odds of 1/1 or better

    Gulfstream Park - Race #2 - Post: 1:05pm - Maiden Special - 8.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $32,000 Class Rating: 88

Rating: Three and a Half Golden Dollars out of Four

MY GOOD VENEZUELA - Strong average class rating on this horse. Should have the capability to run well on the turf. This filly is in good condition. Finished fifth on Jan 2nd. Animal didn't land in the money in last race, but did beat half the field, and made up ground in the homestretch. A slight improvement and this horse should be right there at the end. LEROIDS MOMMIE - The rider/handler twosome of Lopez and Cibelli has a strong return on investment together. Last race at Gulfstream Park, she broke from the far outside. I don't need an advanced degree like The Brain to tell me her inside post today should help.

    Vulnerable Contenders: #1 LUPO'S WAY (ML=3/1), #9 WARRANTY (ML=4/1), #11 DIPLOMATIC AFFAIR (ML=8/1),

LUPO'S WAY - Speed kills. Plenty of speed in this race compromises this animal's dreams at winning. Improbable that the speed figure she earned on December 13th will hold up in this event. WARRANTY - Would have to get quite a bit more than the morning line odds of 4/1 to play this thoroughbred. DIPLOMATIC AFFAIR - When examining today's class rating, she will have to notch a better rating than last out to battle in this turf route.

MY GOOD VENEZUELA - This filly doesn't have to improve too much to win this event. Surely worth a wager.

    STRAIGHT WAGERS:
[/B]#8 MY GOOD VENEZUELA[/B] is the play if we get odds of 8/5 or better

          Turfway Park - Race #7 - Post: 9:09pm - Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $9,000 Class Rating: 79

Rating: Four Golden Dollars out of Four

          #6 MARTHA ROSE (ML=6/1)
          #5 MY CALENDER GIRL (ML=8/1)

MARTHA ROSE - I like to wager on this handicapping angle, a pony coming back off a sharp outing within the last month or so. MY CALENDER GIRL - Look for this one to go all the way at some pretty good odds right here. Ran fifth in last race, but not more than five from the lead at the end. Using this rider/trainer combination is a good decision. Last raced at Turfway Park carrying 7 lbs more. The lower weight carried right here in this race should serve her well.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 CASH IN MY POCKET (ML=8/5), #2 CHEROKEE IN ME (ML=5/2), #3 ARYA (ML=5/1),

          STRAIGHT WAGERS:

                    Gulfstream Park - Race #3 - Post: 1:35pm - Maiden Claiming - 8.0 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $18,000 Class Rating: 79

Rating: Four Golden Dollars out of Four

                    #12 DESCARADO (ML=9/2)

DESCARADO - This trainer brings horses to the turf ready to go, winning over 20 percent of the time under similar conditions. Just missed hitting the board on January 14th at Gulfstream Park. With decent morning odds today, she has my interest. LOVE FLUTE - A horse coming back this quickly after a good outing is a good sign. After a pair of sprints, she's routing today, which is probably what this mare wants to do.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 HANOVER HONEY (ML=7/2), #11 STARSHIP HOSTILITY (ML=4/1), #3 TZI OUR DESTINY (ML=5/1),

HANOVER HONEY - The finish of 12th in the last race shows me that this animal may be going off form. STARSHIP HOSTILITY - This equine doesn't have a champion's disposition. Habitually finishes close, but no cigar. TZI OUR DESTINY - Speed ratings of 75/70/48 are headed in the wrong direction. You always believe this animal has a shot to be victorious, but she fails often. This racer has not tallied a victory here today in 13 starts. Little chance she wins today. Will be tough for this thoroughbred to beat this field off of that last speed rating. Doubtful to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's Equibase class figure, so put her on the vulnerable contenders list.

                    STRAIGHT WAGERS:
#12 DESCARADO is the play if we get odds of 3/2 or better

                      Gulfstream Park - Race #10 - Post: 5:05pm - Claiming - 7.5 furlongs on the Turf. Purse: $28,000 Class Rating: 81

Rating: Four Golden Dollar out of Four

                      #3 CHINA BELLA (ML=8/1)
                      #10 SIMPLY MAGIC (ML=9/2)
                      #5 ROSEBUD'S TIGER (ML=5/1)
                      #2 EVER ARCH (ML=10/1)

CHINA BELLA - This racer ran off the board at Gulfstream Park last out on the soft turf. She should improve in this event without a sloppy track. I like this filly. Has the topmost earnings per start in today's contest. SIMPLY MAGIC - Look for this filly to run much better right here in this race. Last race at Gulfstream Park finishing sixth on the soft turf is no indication of her true talent. ROSEBUD'S TIGER - I'm focusing on the class of this magnificent animal, and this one is the 'classiest' of the bunch. Petro is sharp with any magnificent animal racing 1st time after a claim. The trainer is very good with those types. EVER ARCH - Trainer, Tomlinson, has been deliberate with this filly off the layoff. Look for a solid effort today. Running 7 1/2 furlongs on the grass, you've have to look at horse's turf figures. This horse has the tops in the bunch. Horse made up some ground down the stretch last race out on Jan 6th at Gulfstream Park. That contest is better than it looked.

                      Vulnerable Contenders: #4 RAISEDTOBEAWARRIOR (ML=4/1), #1 PENNETTA (ML=6/1), #7 CAPRIASCA (ML=6/1),

RAISEDTOBEAWARRIOR - Won't be easy for this thoroughbred to beat this group off of that last speed figure. Not probable to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's class figure, so put her on the possibly overvalued equines list. PENNETTA - This pony ran a most unsatisfactory speed fig last time out. She shouldn't improve and will likely get beat in today's race running that fig. CAPRIASCA - When looking at today's Equibase class figure, she will have to earn a better speed figure than last out to be competitive in this turf sprint.

                      STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Putting our cash on #3 CHINA BELLA to win. Have to have odds of at least 7/2 or better though

                      Amount Cashed: $0.00

Thursday's 8th race (4:33pm PT) from Santa Anita is a $20,000 Maiden Claiming event for fillies and mares dashing six furlongs on the main track.

#7 Bolt Up (5-1) traveled around two turns in her last pair and finished 2nd (blinkers on) Dec 20 and 4th (blinkers off) Jan 7. She gets in light with quality apprentice Lopez and Wong is 4-for-8 route/sprint. Blinkers are back on today and she was 3rd in a similar local sprint after a long layoff a few months ago.

#4 Rockport Dancer (3-1) is 0-for-10 but drops out of the special weight ranks for the first time and sharp local rider Gonzalez strings along.

#3 Miss Bliss (5-2) hit the board in her last three and the fresh filly drops to the $20k level for the first time.

#11 Sweeter Thancandy (7-2) missed by a neck as the heavy favorite in her first start at the $20k level Jan 8. Bejarano rides back.

#6 Sheswildnfree (12-1) switches to barn $$ rider Gutierrez and Eurton shows a profit 2nd off the shelf.

                      The Plays:

$18 to win #7 Bolt Up

                        #3 FIRSTRATE PROPOSAL (ML=8/1)
                        #8 PRINCESS DROSSIE (ML=6/1)
                        #12 MAKE IT MARIA (ML=5/1)

                        FIRSTRATE PROPOSA
L - Nice return on investment for this jock and conditioner duet. Last raced at Turfway Park with a poor post position. I swiped some data from The Brain, and his computer says the inside should be a big help to this one today. Have to give this filly a good shot. Ran a strong outing last out within the last thirty days. Lets try to beat the morning-line choices with this filly. Just missed last out, but ran a decent race. PRINCESS DROSSIE - This filly is in nice form. Finished second on Dec 31st. Mojica is right back for another race today after racing atop this equine for the first ride on Dec 31st and ought to know the ropes to this one a little better. I think that the addition of blinkers today will keep her mind on the race at hand. Recent Equibase speed figures show powerful pattern of improvement. MAKE IT MARIA - Combs brings her right back. I recommend you stay with this live filly.

                        Vulnerable Contenders: #4 WONDERFUL REMARK (ML=5/2), #10 PICK POCKET (ML=3/1), #2 C J'S FIRE (ML=8/1),

WONDERFUL REMARK - You should normally wager against favorites that haven't raced or show no activity in the morning over the last three weeks. Hasn't been winning of late when made the chalk horse. Take a look at her record. PICK POCKET - This thoroughbred hasn't shown much effort in the last couple of races. C J'S FIRE - Would have to get more than the morning line odds of 8/1 to bet on this thoroughbred.

                        FIRSTRATE PROPOSAL
                        - One of my favorite angles is a longshot that has the top TrackMaster Power Rating.

                        STRAIGHT WAGERS:

                            Oaklawn Park - Race #1 - Post: 1:30pm - Maiden Claiming - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $24,000 Class Rating: 63

Rating: Four Golden Dollars out of Four

                            #3 SEA LUCY'S REALITY (ML=9/2)

                            #8 FLAMING SHADOW (ML=12/1)

SEA LUCY'S REALITY - Dropping 11 pounds from last race. Could be a deciding factor today. ANDREA REESE - When Quinonez and Cline unite on animals the ROI has been terrific at +297. Generally speaking, horses on Lasix for the first time should be considered. That's what we have here. FLAMING SHADOW - State bred races are generally easier than 'open' company, and this filly's move into the 'state bred' class today should make her tough in here. Hale is trying the 'shades' on today. Note that this animal worked from the gate in a morning prep, most likely in blinkers.

                            Vulnerable Contenders: #5 MARY LOU (ML=7/2), #4 INNOCENT STORM (ML=5/1), #1 EL I DECLAIRE (ML=8/1),

MARY LOU - Really had to show me much more last time around the track. Never made much of an impact. The Equibase speed figures are going downward. I'm not throwing a few bucks at this less than sharp equine off of that trend. INNOCENT STORM - Hasn't hit the board in any short distance races of late. Improbable to see her doing it this time out either. EL I DECLAIRE - Trying to beat this one this time around at the price of 8/1.

                            STRAIGHT WAGERS:
#3 SEA LUCY'S REALITY is going to be the play if we are getting 5/2 or better

Sunday's 4th race (2:01pm PT) from Santa Anita Park is a $16,000 claiming event for fillies and mares traveling one mile on the main track.

#3 IPRAY (5-1) reunites with winning rider Bejarano and can improve 2nd off the shelf at her favorite distance (4-2-1-0).

#4 Amberella (8-5) landed in the Exacta in 4 of 5 starts and she likes this oval. Quality apprentice Lopez rides back for D’Amato.

#6 Mudge (5-1) remains above her $8k claimed price and I always consider horses from the sneaky Sierra barn for my Trifecta/Superfecta tickets. She goes turf/dirt and has hit the board in 5 of 11 local outings.

#7 Easter Fever (3-1) vacates the optional claiming ranks and gets in light with Pena. She stretches back out, has won here before, and might show speed.

                            THE PLAYS:

                            win #3 IPRAY

                            $4 Exacta 3-6-7/4 ($12)

                            $1 Trifecta 3-4-7/3-4-7/6 ($6)
