  • Saturday 5/1 Derby Day Spot Plays

    YTD: $ +56.60

I had four plays last week with two winners, a second and one off board. As always, strength of the play is indicated by the size of the wager. All but one play is on the Derby Day card at Churchill. Churchill picks are made based on likelihood of rain.

    Delaware Park Race 1
$15 to win and place on #7 Show Me The Gold

    Churchill Downs Race 2
$10 to win and place on #4 Spicer

Churchill Downs Race 7 Gr. II Distaff Turf Mile
$10 to win place and show on #3 Fantasia (TURF ONLY)

Churchill Downs Race 8 Gr. I Humana Distaff
$10 to win and place on #2 Warbling

Churchill Downs Race 10 Gr. I Woodford Reserve Turf Classic
$15 to win place and show on #8 Loup Breton (TURF ONLY)
    $5 Daily Double #8 with #4, #12 and #16
    $3 Double #8 with #1, #2 and #13

I think the Kentucky Derby is wide open and the early betting shows it. I'm going to try to get a price by keying several horses in the double with my best bet of the day, Loup Breton in the Woodford Reserve
My tepid picks for the Derby are, in order:
    #16 Awesome Act
    #4 Super Saver
    #12 Conveyance
    #1 Lookin At Lucky
    #13 Jackson Bend
    #2 Ice Box

There isn't a single horse that looks special and the combination of the evenly matchged mediocre field with a drying out, but still soggy, track could lead to a bizarre outcome.

Thanks for the picks Gris.....I'm in Vegas and new to the horses. Can someone explain the Daily Double? So I can play a Double w/ #8 in the 10th race along w/ a horse or 2 from the Derby (11th race)?

      Thanks!

the daily double i believe is the winner in 2 races in a row pre designated by the track.Sometimes it could be race 1,2 sometimes 7,8.Hope this helps

Richie: [after Gus hits a homerun] Wow and he did it without steroids.
          Clark: What's steroids?
Richie: Something that makes your pee-pee smaller.
Clark: There must be steroids in macaroni!

damn gris,i back our horse up with "court vision",i had "general quarters" in my exacta but throw him out late and would never have used him as a key horse in the doubles,no turf form to show he would like the turf that well and his turf breeding did not excite me,just wish "court vision" could have held him off in the lane, our horse was flying late and broke terrible out of the gate-almost threw the jockey-watch the replay !!
