I had a bang-up return to horse posting last week when I drilled a $164 profit off of $200 wagered, keyed by Tres Borachos running second in the Hollywood Gold Cup at 23-1.
The following are my strongest plays across the country and I'll again use the same base bet for rating purposes.
Colonial Downs Race 4 Play #6 Old Timer (TURF ONLY)
$20 to win and place
This horse won his career debut going long on the grass on Preakness Day at Pimlico and was compromised by a slow pace last out in his second career start. He should have more pace to run at in this shorter race.
Delaware Park Race 6 Play #2 Beckham Road (TURF ONLY)
$20 to win and place
This horse just won a starter race and moves up to 1X company where he was a close second twice in a row at Gulfstream. He is working very fast and has a solid closing kick and good tactical speed.
Woodbine Race 10 Play #1 Alero Express
$15 to win and place
This horse lost all chance when he stumbled at the break and return with strong workouts at the same level, a maiden race restricted to Ontario breds.
Pleasonton Race 4 Play #3 Bahama Breeze
$20 to win and place
Here's my pick to upset heavily favored Tribesman in this small stakes. Tribesman will be in a vicious speed duel with the stablemate of my pick who should press the pace and roll by in the stretch. She set a track record in her last start at Hollywood which was her first off the layoff.
Hollywood Park Race 8 Gr. 2 Swaps Stakes Play #1 Conservative
$15 to win and place; $5 exacta box with #8 Grazen
Grazen is a budding star with three straight wins but Conservative has a shot at the upset at a solid price. With all the three year old stakes going on back east there's only one reason his trainer is shipping him from Belmont---they think he's best on a synthetic surface. They sent to California early and he has two sharp works over the surface. Grazen will be loose on the lead and Conservative is a closer making an exacta box a nice addition to the win-place bet.
