  • Saturday 7/11 Spot Plays

Time to get back in the horse groove. I'll list my best bets across the USA after lots of studying. I personally intend to hit these hard but will list a small base bet here for the purpose of rating the plays here.

Monmouth Race 8 Play #3 Steve's Double (play is good for TURF OR DIRT)
    $20 to win and place
This horse ran decently from the awful 10-hole in a graded stakes and Churchill and drops in class to a listed stakes here. Bullet workout and meet's leading rider up

Calder Race 8 (Grade 2 $200,000 Carry Back stakes) Play #1 You Luckie Mann
    $20 to win and place
These are three year olds sprinting six furlongs. My pick should rate just off the leaders and has never finished off the board in eight starts against strong competition.

Calder Race 9 (Grade 1 $350,000 Princess Rooney) Play #8 Dubai Majesty
    $20 to win and place
Don't worry; Indian Blessing is a scratch so we won't have to beat her. My pick is 7-for-8 win/place at this distance and won a Grade 3 at Churchill in May. Despite this being a Grade 1 sprint, there isn't much speed here and my filly should go wire to wire. I'm hoping to get 3-1.

Arlington Park Race 6 Play #6 Capt. Bullet Bob
    $20 to win and place
This horse drops into Illinois-bred company after racing against much better in open company at Churchill. Second start at three off long layoff.

Hollywood Park Race 8 (Grade 1 $700,000 Hollywood Gold Cup)Play #9 Tres Borrachos
    $20 to win and place
Bombs Away. Big longshot here and worth a stab against a terrible field for a race of this magnitude. There's NO speed in this race and my pick just won an allowance race over the track going wire-to-wire on solid fractions. He's run 17 times but all three wins have been at Hollywood and he seems primed for a big effort. 25-1 possible.

Mountaineer Park Race 6 Play #4 Access To The City
$35 to win and place (strongest play of the day)
Class dropper is 11-for-15 win/place at this distance and 9-for-11 win/place at this track. Will be a short price but very likely winner.

    One other SMALL play:

A horse named Colina Verde is entered in both Race 8 at Woodbine (she's #4) and Race 5 at Arlington (#3). Both are graded stakes on the grass. I'm playing her for a smaller amount in whichever race she runs. (As it's a small play, I won't count it in my record for the day) Play is good for turf only

I like that Tres Barrachos pick. I think he'll be there, but don't think he can win (I could be wrong). At 20-1 worth a bet. I got him in a ex box though.

    Good Luck
    Good Luck to everyone

Richie: [after Gus hits a homerun] Wow and he did it without steroids.
    Clark: What's steroids?
Richie: Something that makes your pee-pee smaller.
Clark: There must be steroids in macaroni!

A decent enough day, all things considered.

Captain Bullet Bob won, paying 7.80 and 4.40
Tres Borrachos was the big score, finishing second at 23-1 paying 21.60 to place.
You Luckie Mann finished second, paying 2.60 to place
The Monmouth horse finished third for nothing and Dubai Majesty ran dead last.

          The Mountaineer horse SCRATCHED.

          Wagered: $200
          Cashed: $364

          Profit: $164.

          I'm back.
