  • Saturday 8/16 Spot Plays

YTD: +$180.50 (based on $50-100 wagered per play)

I had a big day last Saturday, keyed by a 7-1 winner in the Secretariat at Arlington. Saratoga has had a pretty lousy meet with races being taken off the turf more than half the days in the meet. There is a very good chance they'll stay on the grass today, giving me two plays I like.

Saratoga Race 4 Play #1 Sweet Bama Breeze
Bet $25 to win and place
PICK IS FOR TURF ONLY. (NOTE: This horse is part of a two horse entry. The play is only on this horse. If he scratches and #1A runs, the play is off.) New York bred maiden on the grass. This horse ran the best race of his career in his debut on the grass last year. A return to the turf gets the money.

Saratoga Race 8 Gr. 1 Sword Dancer Play #7 Dancing Forever
Bet $25 to win and place
PICK IS FOR TURF ONLY. With the scratch of Red Rocks, my pick is a stickout here. He's a specialist at long distances like the 1 1/2 miles of this race. He's coming off two straight wins and all three of his races this year have been strong. Rene Douglas in from Arlington to ride.

Calder Race 11 Play #10 You Luckie Mann
Bet $30 to win and place
This is a two year old stakes for Florida breds. My pick romped by 14 lengths in his career debut and should be even better in his second start. The outside post position is OK as he is outside the only other speed horses.

Del Mar Race 4 Play #4 Birdie Birdie
Bet $25 to win and place.
PICK IS FOR TURF ONLY. Three year old filly closed fast in a six furlong turf sprint and should appreciate the stretchout to 1 1/16 in her second start. Great grass breeding by El Prado out of a Theatrical mare. Six furlong bullet work eight days ago.

Del Mar Race 6 Play #3 Watsnewpussykat
Bet $25 to win and place
I rarely play first time starters but this two year old filly catches a seemingly soft field. Her trainer has been torrid the whole meet and the horse had a blastoff workout three weeks ago. As you might have guessed by the name, the horse's owner is Burt Bacharach.

    Opinions only: #6 Linda's Kisses in Saratoga's 3rd
    #7 Palace Secret in Saratoga's 10th
(both of the above would be for turf only)

i capped 5 horses for tomorrow brother-you picked 3 of them, love dancing forever and birdie, birdie both on turf.and how can you not like whatsnewpussycat-wooooooo-oooooohhhh-wooooooooo !! ps-i had satan's circus in his last race at 14 to 1,he finished second and paid nicely, just think the flow of tomorrows race does not suit his running style,in that race if the speed frys, could set up bel air sizzle or magical fantasy but i think bel air is the better closer !! ps-i love storm mesa cause i think eddie will get the dream trip behind the speed and he has a better kick than the two closers i just mentioned...

Richie: [after Gus hits a homerun] Wow and he did it without steroids.
        Clark: What's steroids?
Richie: Something that makes your pee-pee smaller.
Clark: There must be steroids in macaroni!
