  • Saturday 6/28 Spot Plays

YTD: +$208.50 (based on $50-100 per play)

My only play last week scratched. I found six races today that I really like and I'm going with my four strongest. By weirdo coincidence, three of the four races I have horse #4 in the 9th race.

Belmont Park Race 7 Play #9 Monastic Springs
Bet $25 to win and place
One of the best bred grass horses on the planet, this one won his career debut last out despite unbelievable trouble (I saw the race; it was one of the most amazing wins I've seen in a long time). I like him to come right back and win a 1X in his second start. Price should be nice because several others have better speed figures.

Belmont Park Race 9 Grade. 1 Suburban Hcp. Play #4 Solar Flare
Bet $30 to win and place
This horse gets first time Lasix as he makes his second U.S. start after a big three-year old campaign in Argentina. He just got up in his U.S. debut against easier at Delaware but he should improve second out and may be on the lead. This is a good race to bet against A.P. Arrow (first race back after Dubai) and two Dutrow horses (the slime may be on best behavior after being caught with another medication violation).

Hollywood Park Race 9 Gr. 2 A Gleam Hcp. Play #4 Dawn After Dawn
Bet $35 to win and place
My horse turns back to a seven furlong sprint after several nice two turn graded stakes runs. He should have a big closing kick and has tactical speed to stay close to the leaders. Gomez excels at races like this where timing the big move is key.

Prairie Meadows Race 9 Gr. 2 Cornhusker Hcp. Play #4 Temporary Saint
Bet $50 to win and place
This horse wired the field two back in a Grade 3 at Aqueduct and ran well before tiring last out against much better in the Grade 1 Pimlico Special. With the scratch of Fairbanks, he'll sit right off the the speed. Trainer Bruce Levine is very hot right now, Theriot is in from Kentucky to ride and this is the one race America's leading owner most wants to win (she lives in Des Moines). At potential odds of 3-1, I consider this a VERY strong play.

    Opinions only:
I also like #4 Proper Causeway in the 11th at Arlington and #2 Giovanni in the 3rd at Hollywood.

                      This day stunk.

Solar Flare got nailed by a 41-1 Dutrow horse and paid 7.00 to place. Dawn After Dawn took the gas pipe and Monastic Springs ran badly. My big play at Prairie finished 3rd when two bombs ran one-two.

$300 wagered on the day and only $105 cashed for a loss of -$195. YTD down to a paltry +$13.50. Sorry.
