YTD: +$455.50 (based on $50-100 per play)
I don't have a big play on the Belmont Stakes but there are four nice races I'm taking big shots at today.
Churchill Downs Race 5 Play #3 Beautiful Nina
Play $40 to win and place
All systems go here. It's an awful six-horse field of 7500 filly claimers. My horse drops sharply in class second off the layoff and won for a higer tag a couple of months ago at Keeneland. Even money would still be a bargain.
Belmont Park Race 9 Gr. II Woody Stephens Stakes Play #2 Ready's Image
Bet $40 to win and place
This is a seven furlong stakes for three year olds. My horse makes its second start of the year after winning a smaller stakes last out despite having a bad break. He can rate off what should be a fast pace to win for Pletcher-Velazquez.
Belmont Park Race 10 Gr. I Manhattan Handicap Play #6 Strike a Deal
Bet $40 to win and place
This horse should have a breakout year after just missing in three-year old grass stakes last year. He makes his second start off a long layoff after almost wiring the field in a smaller stakes. He has two nice works since that race and is bred to get the 1 1/4 miles of today's race. The price should be good because of the presence of Better Talk Now, a couple of Frankel horses and a few others.
Prairie Meadows Race 9 Play #8 Day of Victory
Bet $35 to win and place
This is a small stakes restricted to three year old fillies. My horse has a poor outside post for a two-turn race but that should allow her to close off what I think will be a hot pace. She just missed against older allowance horses at Churchill and meets only one other top horse (Rasierra, who ran in the Kentucky Oaks). Calvin Borel in to ride a well-meant horse.
Belmont Stakes prediction (no bets on the spot plays)
#1 Big Brown
#4 Denis of Cork
#7 Tale of Ekati
#10 Icabad Crane
#5 Casino Drive
possible scratch of Casino Drive will take most of the value out of a valueless race. Even though I pick Big Brown to win, I'll try for a bigger score by using all five of my horses in various wagers.
