This horse is a New York-bred that ran very well in its career debut at Santa Anita. It makes a huge drop in class to face state breds. It's pretty clear his high profile owner is pointing to win on Wood Memorial day. Horse has been in training all winter in California and is set to win here.
Keeneland Race 9 Gr.I Ashland Stakes Play #6 Country Star
Bet $30 to win and place
Potential superstar makes her three-year old debut. After she wins this, she'll probably be favored to win the Kentucky Oaks. Trainer Frankel always does well at Keeneland.
Hawthorne Race 7 Gr. II Illinois Derby Play #1 Recapturetheglory and #6 Golden Spikes
Play $20 to win and place on both. Play $10 eacta box using both.
Let's upset Denis of Cork here. Recapturetheglory prepped over the grass at Fairgrounds and should set an even pace with Golden Spikes who ships in from Calder. Both my choices want every bit of the 1 1/8 distance. Denis of Cork is overrated off an Oaklawn win in which a pace meltdown set it up for him.
Santa Anita Race 6 Gr. I Santa Anita Derby Play #7 Shore Do

Bombs Away. The California three year olds aren't that good and I'm looking to upset overrated Colonel John and El Gato Malo. My horse has two dull runs this year but ran big last fall at this very track in the Grade I Norfolk. The distance will be no problem, there's a new trainer and the price will be right.

Wood Memorial
The wet track sets it up perfectly for War Pass so I can't make much of a play on my own pick, Texas Wildcatter. He's an improving horse who ran sensationally to finish second in the Gotham to Visionaire (who might win the Derby).
