I wnt one-for-two in my most recent post two weeks ago, unfortunately the loss was on my first triple play of the year, Indian Vale, who stunk up the joint in the Delaware Handicap. This was a major blow to the YTD stats. I love today's Saratoga card, as can be seen by the number of plays there.
Saratoga Race 2 Play #6 Globalization
Two year old makes his second career start after setting the pace and fading at Belmont. Gets a rider switch to Gomez and should go wire to wire.
Saratoga Race 4 Play #5 Tonybeatthegate
This horse loves a wet track and rain is in the forecast. He drops out a 50,000 starter allowance, where he finished a decent third, to face much easier in this 22,500 claimer. He looks like the best speed. Chavez returns to Saratoga winners circle.
Saratoga Race 8 Gr. II Vanderbilt Hcp. Play #7 Benny the Bull
The race is loaded with speed and this horse is a closer coming off two very fast wins in the midwest. He's been purchased since then and switched to Dutrow who always improves horses with his magic juice. My only concern is that if there is rain, it tends to favor speed at Saratoga but rider Prado will place this horse where he needs to be.
Saratoga Race 10 Gr. I Whitney Hcp. Play #4 Fairbanks
I played this horse big when he finished second last out in the Gr. I Suburban. the cutback from 1 1/4 to 1 1/8 will help him as will any moisture in the track. Two weeks in a row major stakes have been won by Pletcher horses overshadowed by others trained by Pletcher. This one could make it three in a row as Lawyer Ron and Magna Graduate have bigger reputations. I also like #2 Papi Chullo (who I've played here in his last two races; both wins) and #9 Diamond Stripes.
Arlington Park Race 5 Play #11 Best Westerner
This horse is shipped in from Canterbury to make his career debut in this two-year old maiden race. That's a sign the trainer thinks this one is really good. Huge workout from the gate at Canterbury two weeks ago. The price should be very fat because Asmussen has two in here and Pletcher has one (and both are outstanding with two year old firsters).
