  • Any simulcast handicapping tips?

When I am playing the simulcast horses there is a lot of information I like to look at. But the thing I look at the most is the Beyer ratings for that horse. I take the average of all the Beyer ratings for that horse and compare that to the rest of the field. A lot of the times, this method produces the odds on favorite but once in a while it will give a live long shot. Anyway, I was just wanting to see what others did and if anybody had any hints or tips. Thanks.

Man, I could fill a page on what to look for, but here is the quickie way I look at it.

    - Connections % (Tainer/Jockey % at that track)
    - Rider upgrade???
    - 'Horse for the course' (has this horse done well at this track before)
    - Distance (Horses performance at the distance or within a few furlongs)
    - Money or not (does the horse even know how to run in the money)
    - Class (has it faced similar company)
    - Equipment (Blinkers on/off)
    - Then lastly Beyer

Well take it for what it is worth.

Have fun with the horses, learn from others, but develop your own style of capping. These comments above are just quick ways to do decently (I think) at tracks you may not know much about (but also can always be used as part of your capping). I have been at it I guess like 8 or 9 years and don't know anything. Good luck to you both.

Bill, thanks for the input. I will take any information I can get. What do you think about Harness racing? Personally, I think they are harder to cap. It seems to me to be really important to hop out to an early lead and grab the rail. Anyhow, I am just starting to get into simulcasting. I spent the last weekend in Oaklawn and now I am hooked. Any tips or information is always welcomed. Thanks.

bill gave some great pointers...i like to look at how often horse is runnin...has the horse just had a 4-5 month layoff? and what kinda workouts has horse put in for that next race...what do trainers percentages look like for a horse comin off these situations...maybe its horse's 3rd race off the layoff and in first one back got out bad and finished 8th outta 10, 2nd race off layoff maybe ran 4th outta 8 but closed nice and in 3rd race the horse is goin longer distance then 2nd race back and horse now in 3rd off layoff i take a chance cuz i like the pattern of races leadin up...gotta use the daily racin form to get best info on trainers and jocks percentages, workouts, past performances and all thats involved w/ those
edification will take place pull up the reins and get outta the race.
