I had a huge day with these selections last Saturday with one of my two selections winning at 8-1 and the other running second at 15-1 (a third selection scratched).
The stats on the year:
31 selections
10 wins
12 seconds
1 third
YTD (based on only $10 to win and place on each pick): +$173
Saratoga Race 1 Play #5 Must Win Soon
There's no mystery here---they're going to try to win wire-to-wire. This horse is the only real speed and gets a five pound weight break with hot apprentice Leparoux. Huge drop in class to $20,000 claimers after contesting a hot pace and fading in a Claiming Crown stakes. Spotted to win.
Arlington Park Race 1 Play #9 Valiant Man
I don't like maiden claiming races but we could get 5-1 on a sneaky play here. The likely favorite is very vulnerable and was scratched by his trainer two weeks ago and is making a big drop (I think the horse is unsound). My pick switches from a low percentage trainer to one who is hitting 25 percent at this meet. The only other horse with any ability is trained by the same trainer as my pick but this horse outworked the other one in company 12 days ago.
Del Mar Race 8 Gr. II Del Mar Breeders Cup Play #2 Aragorn
Aragorn is the best grass horse in America. He will be a short price here but is worth it. He romped by four lengths to win the Grade I Eddie Read at this track five weeks ago and turns back to his best distance---one mile. He would have been the likely favorite two weeks ago in the Arlington Million but trainer Neil Drysdale wants to run him shorter as they aim to win the Breeders Cup Mile in November. In six starts in America, Aragorn has three wins and three seconds. No brainer pick even at low odds.
