Saratoga Race 8 Gr. 1 Test Stakes
Play #14 Any Limit
Wide open race with 14 runners means the prices are potentially huge. My pick has a terrible post but has won three races in a row for "Giant Killer" Allen Jerkens who won the Test two years ago. He's cranked the horse up out of its skin with a five furlong workout Sunday and a bullet four furlong work Thursday. Tactical speed to stay close but doesn't need the lead. (There is a longshot in this race that should be included on exacta and trifecta tickets: Original Spin who was third in last year's Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies but has run badly in her only two races this year. She's working real fast and should go off at 60-1.)
Ellis Park Race 6
Play #1/1A Texas Best/Cherbourg
This is a $10,000 starter allowance race and while only one of these two horses is likely to run; either has a big shot. Cherbourg just won a $20,000 claimer against tougher competition than he'll see here. This play is a go if either or both horses run.
Arlington Park Race 9
Play #7 Durado
First off the claim for Tom Amoss who has won or placed with 14 of his 29 Arlington horses. This horse showed speed routing in a grass claimer and should love turning back to five furlongs in this turf sprint.
Opinion only: #9 Sun King to pull the upset in the Whitney at Saratoga (Race 9).
