  • Saturday 7/29 Spot Plays

So far, since starting this program I have posted 23 plays with:
    7 winners
    11 places
    1 third place
    4 off the board

YTD: +$79 on a rating scale based on $10 to win and place on all selections

Three plays today and all should be played at equal amounts to win and place.

Arlington Park Race 5 Play #6 Amon
The combination of rider Rene Douglas and trainer Wayne Catalano have been hot all week. In this one-mile grass race, their horse drops out of starter allowance company to face $20,000 claimers. There's a lot of pace to set up this horse's closing kick. Obvious favorite but the price should be acceptable with a large field of eleven entered.

Saratoga Race 8 Gr. 1 Diana Hcp. Play #6 Lady of Venice
In both of this horse's two starts this year as a three year old she showed a huge closing kick. This is a tricky play as my selection is a three year old filly facing older horses in a Grade 1. But trainer Biancone has a huge percentage when adding lasix for the first time and had a chance to run a very strong stablemate in Gorella here. That's a major statement of confidence. Lady of Venice is four-for-five in her career, her only loss was by less than a length, she had a huge workout Monday and has the look of a special horse. All that being said, she is being asked to make a huge class hike today but I'm betting she'll be up to it.

Colonial Downs Race 8 Tippett Stakes Play #5 Dreaming of Anna
This horse ships in from Chicago for her second career start after a smashing debut win at Arlington. Same trainer and rider as my pick in the above Arlington race. Obviously, the jock can't be in both places but even if Dopuglas doesn't come in, this horse looks tons the best. 5 1/2 furlongs on the grass but the pick is good for either turf or dirt (if the race is taken off the turf).

Lousy Day. One winner and two off the board. The lone winner, the horse at Colonial, was heavily bet and paid $3.20 to win and $3.00 to place.

Loss on the day (based on $10 to win and place): $28
          Wagered: $60
          Cashed: $32
