    Armadillo: Wednesday's Den: Mid-week musings……..

    13) News today signals that the A’s will start looking away from Oakland, to find a new ballpark to call home. Apparently playing at the Oakland Coliseum isn’t feasible in the long run, so now the big business of baseball kicks in— will the A’s leave Oakland for greener pa$ture$?

    12) Baseball is going to expand to 32 teams pretty soon, but they’ve said the stadium situations for the A’s/Rays will be clarified, before the expansion cities are chosen.

Cities like Montreal, Nashville, Portland, Charlotte, San Jose and apparently Las Vegas are mentioned as new MLB locations. I can see the A’s moving to Portland or Las Vegas, the Rays moving north to Montreal, and Nashville getting an expansion team. Not sure if Charlotte is a viable alternative.

    11) I’ve been an A’s fan since I was five years old, back in the mid-60’s; lot of history in that decrepit old Coliseum, both baseball/football. Will be a sad day if the A’s leave Oakland.

    10) There would be one place the A’s could move that would be a vast improvement, and that is San Jose, an hour south of Oakland. Most everything would remain the same except for a new ballpark; lot of money in that area, but there is one small problem before that happens.

San Francisco Giants have been blocking the A’s from moving there for years; they have the territorial rights to San Jose, even though they have no intention of ever going there.

You can see the A’s ballpark in Oakland from the Giants’ ballpark across the bay, but they won’t let them move an hour away. Go figure.

    9) As far as Las Vegas goes, I love it there, have been there 28 times since 2009— living in New York, that’s a lot of air mileage. But five years ago, Las Vegas had no major league sports teams; UNLV basketball was their #1 thing.

Now all of a sudden, three major league teams in five years? Town isn’t that big.

    8) San Diego Padres’ SS Fernando Tatis tested positive for COVID, is on the IL.

    7) Tim Tebow is going to sign on as a tight end with the Jaguars; his old college coach is the new coach in Jacksonville (Urban Meyer). Am guessing Tebow would also play special teams and be the #3 emergency QB. How much different is he than the Saints’ Taysom Hill?

    6) Dodgers 6, Mariners 4— Gavin Lux hits a 3-run bomb in the 8th inning for LA.

    5) Tigers 8, Royals 7— Kansas City lost its last nine games, gave up 26 runs in last three; they were down 7-0 in 8th inning of this game, tied it up, then lost it in the last inning.

    4) Indians 3, Cubs 2— Terry Francona must’ve really wanted this game; he left Bieber in for 121 pitches, most in MLB this season. Indians won seven of their last eight games.

    3) If the playoffs started today (they don’t):
NL: Mets-Cardinals-Giants Wild Card: SD is #1, Phil/Mil/LA tied for last spot
AL: Red Sox, White Sox, A’s. Wild Card: New York @ Cleveland

    2) Zion Williamson broke his finger when he was fouled last week, then I hear the Pelicans’ GM whining because Williamson got fouled and referees aren’t calling the games tight enough.

The NBA is soft now; watch some old games from the 80’s/90’s, there was actual competition, where hard fouls were often committed in the name of winning. Today a guy breaks his finger and his GM whines in the media. Get tougher, people.

    1) NFL’s 2021 schedule comes out tonight; each team will play 17 games now, with all the NFC teams having an extra road game this season. Will be a lot to talk about tomorrow.
