    Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

Odds to win next month’s US Open:
    11-1— Bryson DeChambeau
    14-1— Koepka, McIlroy, Rahm
    15-1— Justin Thomas
    16-1— Dustin Johnson
    20-1— Morikawa, Schauffele
    25-1— Patrick Cantlay

Armadillo: Sunday's Den: Wrapping up a sports Saturday

    13) St Louis Cardinals swept a doubleheader in Chicago Saturday after not playing for 17 days; this is their first of three twinbills in five days. Redbirds are scheduled to play 32 games in September, which only has 30 days.

    12) A’s 7, Giants 6— Oakland is 4th team in last 90 years to win consecutive games after trailing by 3+ runs in the 9th inning of both games:

    1933 Pirates
    1971 Tigers
    2017 Angels

A’s scored 15 runs in winning the last two nights; nine of those runs came in the 9th inning.

    11) When the Giants blew a 7-2 lead in the 9th inning Friday night, then lost, it was the first time they lost a game they led by 5+ runs in the 9th inning since 1929. The loss ended a streak of 2,133 consecutive wins in that situation.

    10) Astros 2, Mariners 1— Houston has now won 23 of its last 25 games vs Seattle.

    9) Tampa Bay-Toronto game was suspended by weather in the 4th inning Saturday, will be completed today, before the regularly scheduled tilt.

    8) New Orleans Pelicans fired coach Alvin Gentry, Sacramento Kings fired GM Vlade Divac. Once the playoffs start, the teams that don’t make begin placing blame, making changes.

    7) Watching Portland beat Memphis in the play-in game Saturday, it occurred to me what a great advertisement the game was for mid-major college basketball.

    Ja Morant— Murray State
    Damian Lillard— Weber State
    CJ McCollum— Lehigh

Morant played the last four games in Orlando with a broken thumb.

    6) NBA first round playoff matchups, which start Monday:
    Eastern Conference:
    Milwaukee-Orlando
    Boston-Philadelphia
    Toronto-Brooklyn
    Miami-Indiana

    5) Western Conference matchups:
    Lakers-Portland
    Denver-Utah
    Clippers-Dallas
    Houston-Oklahoma City

    4) Oklahoma Sooners brought their football team back to campus, but nine players tested positive for COVID.

7,000+ school kids have tested positive in Alabama; at some point, doesn’t it become obvious that home schooling is the way to go, until there is a vaccine?

    3) Most of the Miami Marlins players who were sidelined by a coronavirus outbreak have been cleared by MLB for reinstatement, and they’re expected to begin rehabilitation workouts soon.

Miami is 9-5 and in first place in the NL East; will be some interesting decisions as to what players they keep on their 28-man roster.

    2) Seems to me that some younger players are struggling with this shorter, very unusual baseball season; is it easier for more experienced players to adapt to unusual circunstances?

    1) If the playoffs started today (they do not):
    AL East- New York, Baltimore
    AL Central- Minnesota, Cleveland
    AL West- Oakland, Texas
AL Wild Cards- Tampa Bay, Det/Hst

    NL East- Miami, Atlanta
    NL Central- Chicago, St Louis
    NL West- Los Angeles, Colorado
NL Wild Cards- San Diego, Arizona

NHL public betting, line movement for August 16
      Patrick Everson

The Blues and Canucks meet Sunday night for Game 3 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series. Vancouver leads the series 2-0, but St. Louis is a -125 favorite for Game 3.

NHL betting odds are up for Sunday’s quintet of conference quarterfinal matchups. Among the highlights: the defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues in dire need of a Game 3 win against the Vancouver Canucks, and the Philadelphia Flyers aiming to bounce back from a Game 2 blowout at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens.

Multiple oddsmakers provided insights on NHL opening lines and early line movement, sharp money and public betting for Sunday’s contests.

      NHL line movement

After a 4-3 Game 2 overtime loss Friday, the Blues find themselves in a 2-0 hole in their best-of-7 series with the Canucks. Caesars sportsbooks opened St. Louis a -135 Game 3 favorite and moved to -125 Saturday, with Vancouver +110 for tonight’s final game, a 10:30 p.m. ET faceoff.

At 8 p.m. ET, the Flyers and Canadiens collide in Game 3, after Montreal knotted up the series with a 5-0 wipeout Friday. Philadelphia opened -135 and Montreal +120 at Caesars, and there was no line movement by late Saturday night.

The Vegas Golden Knights can be the first the team to reach the conference semifinals, as they go for a four-game sweep in a 6:30 p.m. ET matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks. That line wasn’t posted Saturday night because Vegas and Chicago were entangled in Game 3, which the Knights won 2-1.

      NHL public betting

The Consensus can often be indicative of where the public stands, and in the case of Blues-Canucks, it’s two-way action. Vancouver was seeing 54 percent of early picks Saturday night. Flyers-Canadiens also had some two-way play, though the lean was slightly more, with Philly landing 57 percent of early Consensus picks.
