    Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

Teams who played the easiest non-conference schedules:

    348) Marist

    349) East Carolina

    350) Notre Dame

    351) Virginia Tech

    352) Santa Clara

    353) Fordham

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday…….

    13) First things first; Isaac Bruce got voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday night, great news for a Ram fan like myself. Bruce scored the winning TD in my favorite football game of all time, Super Bowl XXXIV.

In the fall of 1990, I was at a junior college football game in Los Angeles; Santa Monica College against West LA Junior College. High quality football, not many fans there, the field wasn’t that great, but the kids were awesome players.

Several years later, I’m reading thru the Rams’ media guide and I realize that Isaac Bruce was playing for West LA that day in that 1990 game in Santa Monica. Pretty cool.

    12) San Diego State 80, Utah 68— Aztecs retired Kawhi Leonard’s #15, and San Diego State rallied from a 39-31 halftime deficit to remain the nation’s only unbeaten team.

    11) ACC’s conference ranking has slipped to #6 this year, after being #2 or #3 the last six years. Right now, ACC looks like a three-bid league, which would be unusual.

    10) Wisconsin 64, Michigan State 63— Badgers end an 8-game series losing streak, get a big win that bolsters their NCAA chances. Spartans lost for third time in last four road games.

    9) Baylor 68, TCU 52— Bears are 19-1 this season, 8-0 in Big X, yet they’re underrated, because ESPN doesn’t promote the Big X as much as it does the ACC or SEC. Baylor is forcing turnovers 22.1% of time (#41); their eFG% defense is #8 in country.

    8) Duke 97, Syracuse 89— Five guys fouled out; Syracuse only played seven guys, the 7th guy played 5:00 because two of their starters fouled out. Duke shot 68% inside the arc- there were total of 70 foul shots in this game.

Syracuse is 7-4 outside the ACC, 0-4 vs top 100 teams, a very average team.

    7) Upsets:
    — Troy (+13) 84, Georgia State 78
    — Boston College (+12) 71, North Carolina 70
    — Xavier (+8.5) 74, Seton Hall 62
    — Rice (+8) 84, North Texas 75
    — Middle Tennessee (+8) 83, Tex-San Antonio 80
    — Elon (+7.5) 74, Northeastern 69
    — Alabama State (+7) 52, Prairie View 49
    — Creighton (+6.5) 76, Villanova 61
    — Providence (+6.5) 65, Butler 61

    6) From ESPN/Elias Sports: Friday night, Houston Rockets were the first NBA team since 1963 to play an entire game without a player listed taller than 6’6″. Knicks last did it, on January 31, 1963 against the Chicago Zephyrs in a neutral-site game in Syracuse.

    5) If you thought February would start with Tulsa being in first place in the AAC, then you’re a lot smarter than me. Golden Hurricane won their last six games, with last two wins by total of seven points.

    4) Auburn 75, Kentucky 66— Tigers were 33-44 on foul line, Kentucky 20-24; had two guys foul out- three others wound up with four fouls. Auburn had 17 offensive rebounds. Kentucky’s loss gives LSU a 2-game lead in the SEC.

    3) Four games in the Big East Saturday; underdogs covered all four games, winning three of them SU. Marquette was the only Big East home team to win Saturday.

    2) Stanford 70, Oregon 60; Colorado 78, USC 57—
Five teams are tied for first place in Pac-12 in loss column, with three losses; three other teams have four losses.

This is how fragile college teams are: Washington’s point guard flunks out, and now the Huskies are in last place in Pac-12- they were 10-2 on Christmas morning.

    1) Rice 84, North Texas 75— Upset here drops North Texas into a first place tie with Louisiana Tech; Western Kentucky is a game behind those two in Conference USA.
