    Armadillo: Thursday's six-pack

Odds to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational this weekend:

    7-1— Rory McIlroy

    10-1— Justin Rose

    12-1— Brooks Koepka, Rickie Fowler

    14-1— Jason Day

    16-1— Bryson DeChambeau

    20-1— Hideki Matsuyama

    **********

Armadillo: Thursday's List of 13: Doing some thinking out loud……

    13) Back in December, when I was flying home to Albany from Las Vegas, with a stop in Baltimore, one of the other passengers on my flight from Vegas to Baltimore was Eric Weddle’s dad. How do I know this? The guy had a purple Ravens’ t-shirt on, with “Weddle 32” on the back, and he talked proudly and for a long time about his son to the people sitting near him in the terminal.

It was pretty cool to hear a father talk so glowingly about his son; the Ravens released Eric Weddle this week. Hard to believe another NFL team won’t scoop him up when free agency starts next week.

    12) West Virginia 90, Iowa State 75— Watching this game it dawned on me that lot of players are looking tired the last couple weeks. Long season, thin benches, conference tournaments are next week and these are the dog days. Cyclones got crushed here; it was 54-33 at halftime.

    11) Seton Hall 73, Marquette 64— Marquette led by 13 with 9:45 left, but Myles Powell went off and the Pirates get a big win, ending game on an 18-0 run. Powell scored 34 for Seton Hall.

    10) LSU 79, Florida 78, OT— These teams went OT in both meetings this year, splitting the pair; this was LSU’s 7th OT game this season. Florida had the ball for the last shot in OT, but never even got a shot off.

    9) DePaul 101, Georgetown 69— This game was 42-15 at one point; when was last time DePaul led anyone by 27 in the first half? Georgetown played like a team that will be hosting an NIT game in a couple weeks.

    8) Basketball budgets in the SEC:
    1. Kentucky $18.6M
    2. Ole Miss $12.55M
    3. Auburn $11.2M
    4. Texas A&M $10.4M
    5. Alabama $10.3M
    6. South Carolina $10M
    7. Vanderbilt $9.7M
    8. Arkansas $9.2M
    9. Florida $9.0M
    10. LSU $8.6M
    11. Georgia $8.5M
    12. Tennessee $8.4M
    13. Missouri $8.4M
    14. Mississippi State $6.8M

    7) Fresno State 76, San Diego State 74— Aztecs choked this game away; they led by 7 with about a minute to play, but turned the ball over a few times and lost for 7th time in last nine meetings with Fresno.

    6) Looking thru each baseball team’s top 30 minor league prospects, Miami/Seattle both have 12 prospects acquired by trade, most of any team in majors.

    5) New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement says no to major league baseball’s request to not allow wagering on spring training games. Not sure why anyone would want to, but Garden State bettors can wager on Cactus and Grapefruit League games.

    4) Major League Baseball is mandating that managers send their lineup cards into the Commissioner’s Office before releasing them in the clubhouse to reporters, players before games. Baseball wants to ensure that information passed around the clubhouse and the stadium doesn’t provide an edge to gamblers.

They’re pretending that they have no idea that gambling has been going on for a long time.

    3) Boston Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright tested positive for Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide 2 (GHRP-2), a PED, is suspended for 80 games. Why would a knuckleballer do this?

    2) According to info from the New York Gaming Commission, Rivers Casino in Schenectady generated almost double the slot machine revenue than the brand new Resorts World Catskills in Monticello.

    1) Best wishes to Alex Trebek, who announced Wednesday that he has pancreatic cancer. Hope to see him hosting Jeopardy! for many more years. Get well soon, sir.

In the Crease - Week 24
            Joe Williams

            Beantown Bonanza

The Boston Bruins are rolling, going unbeaten in regulation across the past 17 contests. They have won five of the past six games in the Eastern Conference, while posting a 6-0 record in each of the past six outings against teams with a losing overall record. They have pushed aside the opposition in 47 of the past 65 games at home. They're also an impressive 44-18 across the past 62 as a home favorite. The Panthers are on a five-game skid, and they are just 19-41 in the past 60 games as a road underdog. They have lost nine of the past 12 games on the road overall, too, while losing four straight against teams with a winning overall mark.

TD Garden has been a house of horrors for the Florida Panthers, as they have won just five times in the past 21 trips to the Bay State. They're also just 9-25 in the past 34 meetings in this series. In addition, the home team has connected in five of the past six, while the favorite has cashed in 28 of the past 41 meetings overall.

            Looking Ahead

            Thursday, March 7

            Columbus at Pittsburgh:
The Blue Jackets head east on Interstate 70 (OK, they probably took the short flight) to meet the Penguins in the Steel City. Columbus has posted five wins in the past six road outings, while going 10-3 in the past 13 games against the Metropolitan Division. All of that is well and good, but they're just 4-18 in their past 22 against the Pens, while going 10-25 in the past 35 meetings overall. The home team has also cashed in 11 of the past 15 games overall. The Penguins have won six of the past eight against the Eastern Conference, and they're hitting at a .701 clip (116-50) across the past 166 games at home.

            Calgary at Arizona:
How many bettors and hockey fans envisioned that a Calgary-Arizona battle would be an important game in March with Western Conference playoff implications? The Flames have cashed in four of the past five games on the road, while going 7-3 in the past 10 games overall. Arizona is equally hot, cashing in six of the past seven games overall, while cashing in four of the past five against Western Conference clubs. Calgary has owned this series of late, winning 10 of the past 13 meetings overall, with five wins in the past six trips to the desert. The 'over' is also a frequent occurrence, hitting in five of the past six overall, and four straight meetings in Glendale.

            Montreal at San Jose:
The Canadiens have rolled to seven straight victories against the Pacific Division, and they're 6-1 in the past seven against Western Conference foes. The Sharks have hit in nine of their past 11 games as a home favorite, and they're 14-5 in the past 19 overall when favored. Theyh ave won 20 of their past 28 games overall, too. The Sharks have dominated this series, winning 11 straight home meetings and 17 of the past 22 meetings overall. The home team is also 14-5 in the past 19 meetings overall in the series.

            Friday, March 8

            Winnipeg at Carolina:
The Jets roll into Raleigh looking to get untracked and cool off one of the hotter teams in the NHL. The Jets have connected in five of their past seven as an underdog, and they're 7-2 in the past nine against Metropolitan Division clubs. Winnipeg has owned this series of late, winning six of the past eight trips to Raleigh, while cashing in four of the past five. However, the favorite is also 6-0 in the past six meetings, with the 'under' hitting in each of the past six in Raleigh.

            Montreal at Anaheim:
The home team has cashed in eight straight meetings in this series, with Anaheim winning each of their past four home battle against the Canadiens. Montreal will be playing in their third game in four days, and they're 9-2 in the past 11 in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation. With less rest they seem to get stronger. The Habs are also 4-1 in the past five against teams with a losing record. The Ducks are 3-11 in the past 14 home games, and just 7-26 in the past 33 overall. They have also struggled with an 0-9 mark in the past nine against the Atlantic Division, and 3-13 in the past 16 against the Eastern Conference.

            Saturday, March 9

            Ottawa at Boston:
The Bruins have won seven straight meetings in this rivalry since the start of the 2017-18 regular season, including each of the past three meetings at home. The 'over' has also cashed in each of the past three meetings in Boston during the same span. The spread in this one won't likely be as high as -400 when the Tampa Bay Lightning routed the Sens 5-1 last week, but you can expect a line of around -350. Boston has won the past three at home vs. Ottawa by a combined socre of 16-6, with no game closer than three goals, so those interested in puck line (-1 1/2) bets will want to pay close attention.

            Toronto at Edmonton:
The Oilers will be looking to avenge a 6-2 loss in Toronto on Feb. 27, and that is actually their last loss heading into play on Thursday. Mikko Koskinen has backstopped the Oil in 11 straight contests, as Edmonton continues to ride the Finn. The Leafs have won five straight meetings in this series, including each of the past two road games. Edmonton's last win in the series came on Feb. 11, 2016.

            Vegas at Vancouver:
This will be the eighth meeting between the Golden Knights and Canucks since Vegas came into the league. Vegas has won six of the previous seven in the series, and Vancouver has never beaten Vegas in regulation. In the previous three meetings in the Pacific Northwest, Vegas has won by a combined score of 14-9, hitting the 'over' in each of the three battles. Vegas has scored at least four goals in all three trips to Vancouver, and they're averaging 4.2 goals per game in seven meetings all-time vs. the Canucks.

            Sunday, March 10

            Vegas at Calgary:
The home team has won six consecutive meetings in this series, and Calgary has scored seven goals in each of their past two meetings with the Golden Knights in the Saddledome. The 'over' has cashed in each of the three battles in Calgary, too. The past two battles in this series, both in Vegas, resulted in a total of five goals and two 'under' results. So will we get a ton of offense like usual in Calgary, or a low-scoring game like we saw in the past two battles at T-Mobile Arena?

Ovechkin stymied by the Devils, and this week's NHL odds and best bets
              Monty Andrews

Few teams can say they've given Alex Ovechkin trouble over the years – but of his most frequent foes, the New Jersey Devils have done the best job of containing him as they visit the defending-champion Washington Capitals in a Friday night showdown. Ovie's tilt with the Devils highlights a fun weekend of NHL action, which includes the Anaheim Ducks looking to extend a run of home-ice dominance in their recent series with the Montreal Canadiens, and the Toronto Maple Leafs set to humble the Edmonton Oilers yet again. Here are the top matchups, betting trends and tips to monitor entering another full slate of hockey action:

              Stymied by the Devils

Any team that can hold Ovechkin below half a goal per game on average is going to be the envy of the rest of the league – and that's just where the Devils find themselves as they visit Ovechkin and the Capitals on Friday. Ovechkin's 25 goals in 51 career games vs. New Jersey are easily the fewest of any team he's faced at least 50 times. Ovie scored his league-leading 46th goal of the season in Wednesday's 5-3 win over Philadelphia, and his recent scoring exploits have helped the surging Capitals win seven of eight while surpassing the total in four of their previous six games.

              Road Rash

The Montreal Canadiens and Anaheim Ducks have been consistent when it comes to protecting home-ice advantage as the teams renew hostilities Friday night at Honda Center. The home team has prevailed in eight consecutive meetings dating all the way back to the latter stages of the 2014-15 season. And the previous four games haven't been particularly close, with the home side winning each won by at least three goals. The Ducks desperately want to keep that trend alive, as they find themselves with a cumulative net value of -9.35 units through Wednesday's action.

              An Unbe-Leaf-able Run

The Edmonton Oilers might have the superior franchise center compared to the Toronto Maple Leafs, but their Eastern rivals are in much better position as a team as the two Canadian franchises square off Saturday night at Rogers Place. Not only are the Leafs one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup (while the Oilers most certainly are not), they've dominated the head-to-head series with Edmonton, winning five in a row and 12 of the past 14 meetings. But player prop fans should still consider Connor McDavid, who has four goals and five assists in six games against his hometown team.

              Close Calls

The Detroit Red Wings and Florida Panthers have a pair of lengthy trends on the line as they tangle Sunday night at BB&T Center in Sunrise. The game won't hold much interest for casual hockey fans, with both teams well out of the Eastern Conference playoff picture. But it's an intriguing matchup for bettors, considering that the road team has won each of the previous three meetings and eight of the past 10 overall, most recently a 4-3 Florida win in Detroit last New Year's Day. Also notable: these teams have played a whole bunch of close games lately, with four straight games and eight of nine decided by a goal.

              Goalie Profile

              Marc-Andre Fleury, Vegas Golden Knights

He's the one goaltender opposing teams would love to avoid come playoff time – and he's playing some of his best hockey of the season. Fleury has had a sensational start to the month of March, winning all three of his starts while allowing just one total goal in those victories. Fleury blanked the Ducks and Vancouver Canucks to kick off the month, then turned aside 33 of 34 shots in a 2-1 victory over the conference-leading Calgary Flames in his previous outing. The 34-year-old leads the league in wins (33) and shutouts (seven), and the Golden Knights are a red-hot 5-1 to the under in his last six starts.

              Injury Update

              Robin Lehner, New York Islanders

Islanders fans are holding their breath after Lehner left in the third period of his team's 5-4 shootout win over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night. Lehner was forced from the game after colliding with Ottawa forward Brady Tkachuk; head coach Barry Trotz didn't offer an update on his starting netminder's status, but the team did recall Christopher Gibson on an emergency basis in case Lehner isn't able to play in Thursday's rematch. Lehner has been one of the top goaltenders in the league to date, sitting tied for second in the league in goals-against average (2.19) and fifth in save percentage (.927).

              Hat Trick Trends

Road favorites have been the most automatic play of any straight-up betting outcome over the previous seven days worth of games, having gone 12-3-2 – good for a 70.6-percent success rate. Road faves have been a slightly better option (63.2 percent) than home faves (62.1) over the past 30 days, though home faves still own a season-long edge (58.4 to 56.4).

Totals play has been split right down the middle, with 44 games over the previous seven days producing 22 overs and 22 Unders. The under has an ever-so-slight 108-106 edge in the last month's worth of contests and is now up to a 50.6-percent advantage for the season – thanks in no small part to oddsmakers rolling out the 6.5s a lot more than they did early in the year.

The most valuable road team in the league from a betting perspective might surprise you – unless, of course, you've been wagering on the Arizona Coyotes for most of the season. The desert dogs are up to a whopping +9.92 units on the road this season, slightly ahead of the New York Islanders (+9.77); Columbus (+8.73) rounds out the top three.

                6) Looking thru each baseball team’s top 30 minor league prospects, Miami/Seattle both have 12 prospects acquired by trade, most of any team in majors.
                https://casinoslots-ie.com/welcome-bonus
