    Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

Early over/under win totals for NFL teams in 2018:

    10.5— Eagles, Patriots, Packers, Vikings

9.5— Falcons, Texans, Jaguars, Chargers, Rams

8.5— Ravens, Panthers, Cowboys, Saints, Raiders, 49ers, Seahawks

7.5— Broncos, Lions, Chiefs, Giants, Titans

6.5— Bills, Bears, Colts, Jets, Buccaneers

    5.5— Cardinals, Bengals, Dolphins, Redskins

    **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday

    13) Oakland 3, Boston 0— Sean Manaea’s first career complete game is also a no-hitter, and against a powerful lineup that was 17-2 coming into the game.

Manaea walked only two hitters; it was the first time the Red Sox were shut out in 25 years, when current Tigers’ pitching coach Chris Bosio did it for the Mariners on April 22, 1993, so almost 25 years to the day.

    12) San Diego Padres’ manager Andy Green had himself a dilemma in Phoenix Friday night.

Padres led 1-0 after seven innings; Green’s Tyson Ross had a no-hitter going but had already thrown 104 pitches— this was his 4th start back from injury. Ross threw 81-107-100 pitches in his first three starts this season.

Ross’ health is very important, winning the game is important; the no-hitter is less important but is the one thing everyone would talk about.

    11) Ross walked a guy, then with two out CF Franchy Cordero got Green off the hook when he misjudged a fly ball that fell for a double that tied the score and ended the no-hitter, after Ross had thrown 127 pitches.

San Diego went on to win 4-1; hopefully Ross will bounce back and the longest outing of his career won’t cause his arm any problems.

    10) Utah Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell was the 13th player taken in last summer’s draft; Denver took him, then traded him to Utah for Tyler Lydon, Trey Lyles.

Mitchell scored 55 points in Utah’s first two playoff games, breaking Michael Jordan’s record for most points scored by a guard in his first two playoff games. Anytime you break one of Jordan’s records, you’re doing pretty well.

    9) Cal Bears hired former UCLA assistant basketball coach David Grace to the same position; there seemed to be hard feelings when Steve Alford fired the former Air Force veteran last month. Grace was a solid recruiter for the Bruins. UCLA-Cal games might be a little more spirited than normal next winter.

    8) Seven Pittsburgh Pirates were involved on a double play in Friday’s game; the play was scored 1-3-4-2-5-8-7, which means everyone touched the ball except the shortstop and rightfielder, and that doesn’t happen much at all.

    7) From Christopher Kamka: Javier Báez is the first Cubs’ player with 20+ RBI in team’s first 17 games of a season since Billy Williams (25) in 1970.

    6) Sports are interesting because sometimes you benefit from stuff that has nothing to do with you. Take the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans.

Nikola Mirotic scored 30 points for New Orleans in their Game 3 win over Portland; the Pelicans are one of the NBA’s hottest teams, and Mirotic is a big reason why.

Back on October 17, Mirotic was in training camp with the Chicago Bulls; he was trash-talking with teammate Bobby Portis during a practice and finally a scuffle broke out. Portis punched Mirotic in the face; Mirotic was left with a fractured face and a concussion.

    5) Nine days later, Mirotic says either he or Portis has to leave the Bulls, but Mirotic couldn’t be traded until mid-January because he just signed a two-year deal with the Bulls last summer. Other Bulls who were quoted anonymously said they preferred Portis over Mirotic as a teammate, which had to make things pretty awkward for 9 or 10 weeks.

Finally on February 1, Mirotic was sent to New Orleans for three players and a #1 draft pick. Good move by the Pelicans; they’re still playing. Chicago finished the season 27-55.

    4) Was watching the Reds-Cardinals game on the baseball package on DirecTV Saturday; the Reds’ announcers sound like their best friend just died. Very somber. I know the team sucks, but tell some stories, entertain the viewers— talk about how to get out of slumps. Something!!!

    3) 76ers 106, Heat 102— Philly leads series 3-1; Miami led all four games at halftime.

    2) Aaron Rodgers bought a minority stake in the Milwaukee Bucks this week; not bad for a guy who had zero football scholarship offers coming out of high school.

    1) They had 86,818 fans at Nebraska’s spring football game Saturday.

Number 31 on the red team scored a touchdown in that game; he is a wide receiver from Arizona and that was his first-ever college catch. Kid’s name is Kade Warner; you might’ve heard of his father, Hall of Fame QB Kurt Warner.

Sunday's NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Betting Preview and Odds

The Stanley Cup Playoffs continue Sunday with two Game 6's. The Flyers and Avalanche need to defend home ice in order to keep their seasons alive and force Game 7's. - the most exciting thing in sports.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Philadelphia Flyers (+110, 6)

      Penguins lead series 3-2.

The Philadelphia Flyers extended their Eastern Conference first-round series by defeating the Penguins in Pittsburgh for the second time in three games. The Flyers, who find themselves trailing 3-2 in the series, aim to once again stave off elimination in Game 6 on Sunday afternoon against a Penguins club that has outscored the hosts 20-4 at Wells Fargo Center this season.

The Flyers aim to avert an 0-3 postseason performance for the second time in 20 years against Pittsburgh, which has posted wins in Philadelphia with lopsided scores of 5-1, 5-2, 5-1 and 5-0 - with the latter two coming in Game 3 and 4 of this series. Penguins superstar captain Sidney Crosby has tuned out Flyers fans and the team itself in Philadelphia, erupting for 10 points (two goals, eight assists) and a plus-8 rating in four games this season at Wells Fargo Center.

TV: 3 p.m. ET, NBC, CBC, TVAS

ABOUT THE PENGUINS: Forwards Evgeni Malkin and Patric Hornqvist will be "game-time decisions" in Game 6, per coach Mike Sullivan, with the former laboring after Jori Lehtera fell on his left leg in the first period while the latter has missed the last two games with an upper-body injury. Malkin returned to the second period and logged 20:22 of ice time, but Derick Brassard likely would be elevated from the third line to second should the former Hart Trophy recipient's injury be too much after the adrenaline wears off. "(Brassard) is an important player for us, regardless of who's in the lineup. He's a good player. I thought (Friday) night was his best performance as a Penguin," Sullivan said of Brassard, who notched an assist in Game 5 and has three points (one goal, two assists) in the series.

ABOUT THE FLYERS: Valtteri Filppula turned in his most impressive performance as a member of the Flyers on Friday, netting a short-handed goal to forge a tie late in the second period while setting up two others after failing to dent the scoresheet in his nine previous outings. "Fil's just a really good, two-way veteran. Very sound up and down the middle of the rink," coach Dave Hakstol said of the 34-year-old Finn. Michal Neuvirth, a surprise starter in Game 5, turned aside 30 shots - including a diving stop on Crosby with 50 seconds remaining in the third period - to increase his postseason save percentage to a sterling .930 in 15 career tilts.

      SERIES PRICE (PER WESTGATE):

LINE HISTORY: The Flyers opened this elimination game as +140 home dogs and that number has been bet down to +130 heading into game day. The total hit betting boards at 6 and has yet to move off the opening number.

      INJURY REPORT:

Penguins - RW Patric Hornqvist (Questionable, Upper Body) ,RW Carter Rowney (Out Indefinitely, Upper Body).

Flyers - No injuries to report.

      MATCHUP CHART:

      TRENDS:

      * Penguins are 7-0 in their last 7 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game.
      * Over is 7-1-1 in Penguins last 9 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
      * Over is 6-1-1 in Flyers last 8 games following a win.
      * Penguins are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Philadelphia.

Nashville Predators at Colorado Avalanche (+155, 6)

      Predators lead series 3-2.

The Colorado Avalanche weren't given much of a chance by many prognosticators heading into their Western Conference first-round series with the Nashville Predators, but a late surge helped them fend off elimination in their last outing. The upstart Avalanche aim to fluster the Presidents' Trophy-winning Predators once again in Game 6 on Sunday when the series shifts to the Pepsi Center.

Nathan MacKinnon deftly weaved his way around defenders before setting up captain Gabriel Landeskog for the tying goal before Sven Andrighetto cleaned up a rebound with 1:28 left as Colorado snapped a seven-game skid in Nashville with a 2-1 win on Friday. Nashville was unable to advance and set up a conference semifinal date with Patrik Laine and Winnipeg despite unleashing 19 of its 45 shots in the third period at Andrew Hammond (career-high 44 saves), but coach Peter Laviolette wasn't going to put too much stock into the latest setback.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network, Sportsnet, TVAS, FS Tennessee (Nashville), Altitude (Colorado)

ABOUT THE PREDATORS: Austin Watson recorded his club-best sixth point while extending his point streak to six games (four goals, three assists) after setting up Nick Bonino midway into the third period on Friday. While Watson is having a strong series, Nashville's second line of Craig Smith, Kevin Fiala and Kyle Turris have struggled mightily at times against Colorado. Smith has saved face with two goals, but Fiala committed both of the Predators' penalties in Game 5 and Turris has registered only five shots while notching just one assist and a minus-1 rating in the series.

ABOUT THE AVALANCHE: Hammond had all of one regular-season game with Colorado under his belt, but that lack of familiarity didn't prevent him from turning in a sterling performance in Game 5. "For the most part, I thought guys did a good job letting me see pucks through lanes and boxing out," the 30-year-old said. "When it wasn't, you go back to your roots. I'm more of a battler as a goalie than necessarily technically perfect, but you'll take it however it comes." Defenseman Tyson Barrie set up a goal for the second straight game and fourth time in four outings to pull even with Mikko Rantanen for the team lead in assists.

      SERIES PRICE (PER WESTGATE):

LINE HISTORY: The Predators opened as high as +165 road favorites and that was too high for bettors as money coming in on the home team brought that number down to +155 at most books. The total hit the board at 6 and has held firm at that number.

      INJURY REPORT:

Predators - D Yannick Weber (Questionable, Upper Body), RW Ryan Hartman (Eligible, Suspension).

Avalanche - G Jonathan Bernier (Questionable, Lower Body), G Semyon Varlamov (Out Indefinitely, Knee), D Erik Johnson (Late May, Knee).

      MATCHUP CHART:

      TRENDS:

      * Predators are 9-2 in their last 11 Conference Quarterfinals games.
      * Avalanche are 0-5 in their last 5 games following a win.
      * Over is 7-1 in Avalanche last 8 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600.
      * Predators are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings in Colorado.
      * Predators are 14-3 in the last 17 meetings.
