    Armadillo: Friday's six-pack

Odds on NBA first round playoff series:

    Warriors -$1,600, Spurs +$900

    Raptors -$700, Wizards +$500

    76ers -$550, Heat +$400

    Blazers -$190, Pelicans +$160

    Celtics -$145, Bucks +$125

    Cavaliers -$700, Pacers +500

    Thunder -$145, Jazz +125

    Rockets -$4,000, Wolves +$1,400

    **********

Armadillo: Friday's List of 13: Random stuff with weekend here……

    13) After scoring 19 points in his NBA debut Tuesday, 32-year old Andre Ingram played 35:00 for Lakers Wednesday, was +23, best on team.

Funny how guys who have something to prove don’t mind playing back-to-back nights, while lot of guys who already struck it rich think they’re bigger than life and get soft.

Anyway, I hope Ingram gets an invite to the Las Vegas Summer League; he’s earned it. Ingram is also throwing out the first pitch at the Dodger game tonight.

    12) Gametime temperature at Wrigley Field Thursday was 74 degrees; by the top of the 5th inning, it had dropped to 57 degrees.

    11) The mayor of New York City is a Red Sox fan? How is that freakin’ possible? Shouldn’t that disqualify him?

    10) Indiana signed 6-4 Laci Johnson to play on its women’s volleyball team; she is the daughter of Hall of Fame pitcher Randy Johnson.

    9) Michigan grad transfer quarterback Wilton Speight will transfer to UCLA, where he will play for Chip Kelly this fall.

    8) There were four fans at the Kings-Golden Knights game Wednesday in Las Vegas sitting right by the LA bench; they were all dressed just like Elvis impersonators. Good stuff.

    7) Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy will pay for the hiring of an additional armed officer at each of the 10 public schools in the Stillwater, OK area- this will cost Gundy $35,000, from now until the end of the school year. Gundy has two school-age children.

    6) Gregg Popovich started coaching the San Antonio Spurs in 1996; since then, the Knicks have had 12 head coaches— next fall will be #13.

    5) Orlando Magic fired coach Frank Vogel, who was 54-110 in two years as coach, after going 250-181 in six years with the Pacers. It helps to have good players, which Orlando doesn’t.

    4) Doug Kern points out that the Cleveland Indians were held to four of fewer hits three games in row April 8-10, but they still won all three games, the first team to do that since the 1986 Texas Rangers. Only other team to do that was the ’63 San Francisco Giants.

    3) If you’re into fantasy football, this might help:

Since start of 2013 season, on passes thrown 20+ yards downfield, DeSean Jackson has caught passes for a total of 2,255 yards, most in NFL; next highest is TY Hilton (2,213), AJ Green (2,060) and Antonio Brown (2,040).

    2) Over the last 30 years in the NHL, the team that won the Presidents’ Cup (most points during regular season) has gone on to win the Stanley Cup only seven times.

1— By way of contrast, since 1984, only one NBA team seeded lower than #3 has won the NBA title, the 1995 Houston Rockets. LA Kings won the Stanley Cup as the #8 seed in the West a few years ago.

Friday's NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Betting Preview and Odds

The opening round of the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs continue Friday night with three games on the schedule, including Game 2 between the Kings and Golden Knights from Las Vegas. We break down all the matchups to help you handicap the games like a pro.

Philadelphia Flyers at Pittsburgh Penguins (-215, 6)

      Penguins lead series 1-0.

The series opener saw the Pittsburgh Penguins look every bit the part of a two-time reigning Stanley Cup champion while the Philadelphia Flyers matched the profile of a club that has been in desperate search of a goaltender for arguably the last 30 years. The Penguins look to repeat the feat of the series-opening whitewash when they host the Flyers in Game 2 on Friday.

ABOUT THE FLYERS (42-27-7-7, 44-37 O/U): Coach Dave Hakstol initially said on Wednesday that he would be inclined to stick with Brian Elliott (five goals on 19 shots) for Game 2, and he kept that mindset the following day. "I fully stand by what I said (Wednesday) night. That was how I felt. I'm not going to move away for sure from that," Hakstol said on Thursday. Petr Mrazek permitted two goals on 14 shots in place of the 33-year-old Elliott, who has struggled in two of three outings since returning from a near-two-month absence following core muscle surgery. Philadelphia's line of LW Michael Raffl, Giroux, Couturier combined for three shots on goal and was a collective minus-11 in Game 1.

ABOUT THE PENGUINS (48-29-4-2, 48-33 O/U): Sidney Crosby netted a franchise record-tying third postseason hat trick in Wednesday's 7-0 romp at PPG Paints Arena. Crosby's natural hat trick fueled him to a game high-tying plus-5 rating (with Bryan Rust) for the Penguins, who have scored 27 goals in five meetings - all wins - with the Flyers this season. Wednesday's game featured the first 6-goal betting total in an NHL playoff game since 2013 and the Pens single-handedly cashed Over tickets with their seven-goal outburst.

      SERIES PRICE (PER SPORTS INTERACTION):

LINE HISTORY: The Penguins opened as -210 moneyline favorites for Game 2 and early action on the home team has pushed that number slightly higher to -215. The total hit betting boards at 6 and will likely stay on that opening number.

      INJURY REPORT:

Flyers - G Michal Neuvirth (Questionable, Lower Body).

Penguins - RW Carter Rowney (Out Indefinitely, Upper Body).

      MATCHUP CHART:

      TRENDS:

      * Flyers are 1-5 in their last 6 road games.
      * Penguins are 8-1 in their last 9 Conference Quarterfinals games.
      * Over is 10-1 in the Flyers' last 10 vs. Eastern Conference.
      * Over is 24-9 in the Penguins' last 32 overall.
      * Over is 6-0 in the last 5 meetings.

Minnesota Wild at Winnipeg Jets (-200, 5.5)

      Jets lead series 1-0.

The Minnesota Wild enter Game 2 of their first-round playoff series Friday at the Winnipeg Jets looking to shore up their defense, after two costly turnovers led to third-period goals in a 3-2 loss in Wednesday’s opener.

ABOUT THE WILD (45-27-8-3, 41-38 O/U): The task of slowing down one of the NHL’s top offenses already was difficult with defenseman Ryan Suter out for the playoffs due to a leg injury, but Minnesota’s shaky play in its defensive zone did not help its chances in Game 1. Goaltender Devan Dubnyk was outstanding in making 37 saves, stopping several high-quality chances, but faced steady pressure in the first period (13 shots) and third period (19 shots). Minnesota outshot the Jets 12-8 in the second period as the Wild found some rhythm offensively, but did little after Parise scored while going 12 minutes without a shot on net.

ABOUT THE JETS (53-20-8-2, 41-40 O/U): Winnipeg played with the poise of a playoff veteran in earning the first postseason victory in franchise history, getting the game-winning tally from defenseman Joe Morrow with 7:13 to play. Winnipeg kept its cool after Matt Cullen and Zach Parise scored early in the third to put the Wild ahead 2-1, getting a Patrik Laine goal off a turnover just 53 seconds later to even the score. Winnipeg’s power play, fifth-best in the NHL during the regular season, cashed in with a Mark Scheifele goal late in the second period to open the scoring. While not challenged nearly as often as Dubnyk, goaltender Connor Hellebuyck played steady in making 18 saves in his first postseason contest and benefited from a strong game by the Jets defense. Jets F Mathieu Perreault, who left Game 1 with an upper-body injury, will be a game-time decision for Game 2.

      SERIES PRICE (PER SPORTS INTERACTION):

LINE HISTORY: The Jets opened as big -200 favorites for Friday's Game 2 and the total hit betting boards at 5.5. As of Thursday evening neither number has moved.

      INJURY REPORT:

Wild - D Gustav Olofsson (Questionable, Upper Body), D Ryan Suter (Out For Season, Ankle), C Luke Kunin (Out For Season, Knee).

Jets - C Mathieu Perreault (Questionable, Shoulder), D Toby Enstrom (Questionable, Lower Body), D Dmitry Kulikov (Late April, Back), LW Matt Hendricks (Mid May, Lower Body).

      MATCHUP CHART:

      TRENDS:

      * Wild are 1-6 in their last 6 Conference Quarterfinals games.
      * Jets are 1-8 in their last 8 Conference Quarterfinals games.
      * Under is 5-1 in Wild's last 6 Conference Quarterfinals games.
      * Under is 7-3 in Jets' last 10 vs. a team with a winning record.
      * Over is 7-1 in the last 7 meetings in Winnipeg.

Los Angeles Kings at Vegas Golden Knights (-155, 5)

      Golden Knights lead series 1-0.

The Vegas Golden Knights set one record after another in a captivating inaugural season and the team showed it was not about to blink under the bright lights of the postseason. The Golden Knights made an early goal stand up in a 1-0 victory over Los Angeles and look to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series Friday night against the visiting Kings, who will be without one of their elite players.

ABOUT THE KINGS (45-30-7-1, 37-44 O/U): Los Angeles will try to level the series without its top defenseman after Drew Doughty was suspended one game by the NHL on Thursday for an illegal hit to the head of Vegas forward William Carrier. The suspension of 2016 Norris Trophy winner Doughty is a massive blow for Los Angeles, robbing the team of a player who established career highs this season with 50 assists and 60 points and who routinely plays huge minutes (28:02 in Game 1). Complicating matters for the Kings is the absence of fellow blue-liner Jake Muzzin, who has been sidelined since March 26 and skated Thursday wearing a non-contact jersey. Los Angeles' top-ranked penalty kill has snuffed out all 16 power-play chances by Vegas this season.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (52-24-4-3, 42-39 O/U): The knock on the Golden Knights was how they would stand up to the tighter, physical style of the playoffs, but the Pacific Division champions prevailed in a tense duel that featured a staggering 127 hits. One player on the roster with ample playoff experience is goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, and he stood tall in the series opener by turning aside 30 shots to register his 11th career postseason shutout.

      SERIES PRICE (PER SPORTS INTERACTION):

LINE HISTORY: Vegas opened the betting period for Game 2 as -145 favorites and early action on the home team has pushed that moneyline up to -155. The total hit betting boards at 5 and has not moved.

      INJURY REPORT:

Kings - D Jake Muzzin (Questionable, Upper Body), D Derek Forbort (Out Indefinitely, Lower Body).

Golden Knights - LW David Perron (Questionable, Undisclosed), D Luca Sbisa (Questionable, Hand), D Clayton Stoner (Out Indefinitely, Abdominal).

      MATCHUP CHART:

      TRENDS:

      * Kings are 1-5 in their last 6 Conference Quarterfinals games.
      * Golden Knights are 11-1 in their last 11 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
      * Under is 7-2 in Kings last 8 vs. Pacific.
      * Under is 6-1 in Golden Knights last 6 home games.
      * Under is 4-0-1 in the last 4 meetings.
