My Projected Lines and the odds
Ottawa Senators are a huge underdog here against San Jose and my projected odds are pretty same, than those from bookmakers. I have projected that San Jose should be favourite of around 1.50 and this is the price which you will get from bookmakers. This is one of the few picks, where I will go with other information and this is my very rare gut play.
Match Up
San Jose are pretty hot in last couple of games. They won 6 of last 7 games, but they had 3 days off right now. Most people will think, that this is good for a team, but in NHL longer rest than 2 days, usually has different impact. San Jose lost 5 of last 7 games, when they played on 3 days rest and also my historical numbers say that there is no advantage if you have 3 days off. With 4 days off, mot teams will play even worse. So, if they were hot, those three days off didn’t come at the right moment and especially not against Ottawa. Ottawa is even better team than San Jose based on points (8.best team in NHL, San Jose 10. best). Ottawa also has very good numbers against Sharks, they beat them in 4 straight games. Ottawa will start with mike Condon who has been hot lately with SV% of 94.5%. San Jose on other side will probably start with their best goalie Jones (SV% 92.4%), but they also have couple of questionable players for todays game - Wingels, Couture, Schlemko. Even if they play, they had some small injuries last days.
Reason for pick
The odds on Ottawa are pretty high. We can get them for close to 2.90 and even if my numbers and projections have this price as very fair price I think that Ottawa can surprise Sharks tonight. They are better team so far this season based on points, they have very good record against San Jose, after all, they also beat them last time in San Jose and they have very hot goalie right now in the net. As you probably know, their first goalie Anderson leaves the team to be with his wife, who is dealing with cancer. This team is playing also for him and Mike Condon came big in games he played so far.
