    Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

Westgate Super Contest (1,727 entrants-- prize pool is $2.5M)
six most popular picks in Week 13 season record: 35-36-2

    6) Broncos -4 (366)-- Brock's (Osweiler) Bandwagon is picking up steam.

    5) Chiefs -2.5 (414)-- Kansas City looking to win/cover sixth in a row.

    4) Giants +2.5 (424)-- Both teams are playing in their home stadium.

    3) Saints +7 (432)-- Still lot of doubters for unbeaten Carolina.

    2) Texans +3.5 (439)-- Dome team in Buffalo in December........

    1) Seahawks even (484)-- 6-5 Seattle led in fourth quarter in every game.

    **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday.....

    13) Michigan State 16, Iowa 13-- Spartans scored with 0:27 left to win Big 14 title and a likely spot in the national championship playoff. State's three best wins all came in game's final minute, over Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa- a memorable season.

    12) Bowling Green 34, Northern Illinois 14-- That was the good news last night; now the bad news- coach Dino Babers bolted Bowling Green for Syracuse, which was #117 in passing this year. Babers' Falcons were #1, albeit in a lesser league. It is second time in three years Bowling Green had a winning coach skip town-- Dave Clawson bolted for Wake Forest two years ago, where he has yet to have any success.

    11) Texas 23, Baylor 17-- Bears actually ran out of QBs, were down to #4 guy who throws the ball like a punter; still, they were down 20-0, rallied and had ball with shot to win before RB fumbled on last drive. It makes me want to puke that three 5-7 teams are going to bowl games- simply put, there are too many bowl games.

    10) Alabama 29, Florida 15-- How did the Gators win so many games with that kid playing QB? Not only is he a terrible passer, he got suspended earlier in year when he flunked a drug test. The other QB got suspended for using PEDs- if they made a movie with that storyline, nobody would believe it.

    9) Warriors 112, Raptors 109-- Toronto had chance to hand Golden State its first loss, but missed couple of key FTs in last minute; Warriors are 21-0, the best start for any team in any pro sport- they play in Brooklyn today. I'm seriously wondering if at some point, losing a game will become a relief, so they can give Curry/Thompson bit of a rest? Its a very long season- they need to be somewhat fresh for the playoffs.

    8) Couple of horrendous home losses that will hurt on Selection Sunday:
South Dakota 85, Minnesota 81, double OT
Missouri State 64, Oklahoma State 63

    7) Clemson 45, North Carolina 37-- Tigers were up 14-9 in first half when punter decided to run for a first down on 4th and 14 and failed miserably. Dabo Swinney then went off on the kid, throwing a Mike Dtika-like tirade in the kid's face on the sideline.

The punter is an academic All-American who used to be a walk-on-- if they had lost this game, he might have been a walk-home punter.

    6) More shocking than Zack Greinke's $34.3M a year deal is Jeff Samardzija somehow snookering the Giants into giving him $18M a year for five years- he was AWFUL last year, I mean terrible and I like the guy after his stint with the A's in 2014.

Johnny Cueto's agent had to be laughing his butt off when he saw those numbers.

    5) Georgetown 79, Syracuse 72-- Hoyas spanked Syracuse in first game of a 9-game suspension for Jim Boeheim, which will carry into ACC play. Good news is that rest of this month is a parade of stiffs for Syracuse, so they'll right the ship soon.

    4) Arizona football coach Rich Rodriguez turned South Carolina down Saturday night for its head coaching job- media types were surprised. Following Steve Spurrier is not a good idea-- ask Ron Zook or Barry Wilson, who replaced the Ol' Ball Coach at Florida, Duke-- neither one lasted too long.

    3) "They wanted the game more" was one TV analyst's description of Arizona's upset win at Gonzaga Saturday. How the hell does he know who wanted what? It is very simple; Arizona got down big early, then played really well in the second half and pulled an upset. It is lazy and a cliche to just say "they wanted the game more".

    2) Atlanta Falcons are getting a new stadium in downtown Atlanta; the place they play in now, the Georgia Dome is only 23 years old. Why do they need a new stadium?

    1) Arizona State 67, Texas A&M 54-- Solid win for Bobby Hurley's team over the 18th-ranked Aggies- they were up 25 in second half. At this point, Hurley has to be the odds-on favorite to replace Mike Krzyzewski at Duke when that day comes.

Bruins D McQuaid exits with arm injury

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Boston Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid left Saturday's game against the Vancouver Canucks with an apparent arm injury.

McQauid was injured early in the first period.

Vancouver center Jared McCann took a shot the hit another player then struck McQauid on the left arm. He skated to the Bruins bench with his arm hanging at his side, went directly to the dressing room, and did not return.

McQuaid has four assists in 24 games this season. He missed 18 games last year with a broken thumb.

Wild goaltender Dubnyk leaves game with injury

Minnesota Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk left Saturday's game against the Colorado Avalanche in the second period with an apparent leg injury.

Dubnyk appeared to suffer the injury during a routine play in front of his net near the midway point of the game. During a TV timeout, Dubnyk tested his leg with a trainer near the Wild bench and appeared to have trouble pushing off to his left. He headed down the tunnel to the locker room and was replaced by Darcy Kuemper.

Dubnyk, who came to the Wild in January in a trade with Arizona and is widely credited for saving their 2014-15 season, started 22 of Minnesota's 25 games this season. He entered Saturday 13-7-2 with a 2.36 goals-against average and .916 save percentage.

Dubnyk stopped all 11 shots he faced Saturday.

NHL roundup: Red Wings rally for OT win vs. Predators

DETROIT -- Gustav Nyquist's breakaway goal 1:41 into overtime gave the Detroit Red Wings a 5-4 come-from-behind win against the Nashville Predators on Saturday night at Joe Louis Arena.

Detroit rallied from a 4-2 third-period deficit despite three power-play goals by Nashville defenseman Shea Weber, who tallied his first career hat trick.

Tomas Tatar and Dylan Larkin had a goal and an assist each and Nyquist also had an assist. Brad Richards and Justin Abdelkader also scored for Detroit, which has points in 10 consecutive games (7-0-3). Goaltender Petr Mrazek made 28 saves.

Viktor Arvidsson scored the other goal for Nashville (13-8-5). Filip Forsberg and Roman Josi each had two assists and goalie Pekka Rinne stopped 31 shots.

            Blue Jackets 4, Flyers 1

PHILADELPHIA -- Scott Hartnell and Sergei Bobrovsky did damage to their former team, helping Columbus beat Philadelphia.

Hartnell finished with a goal and two assists, and Bobrovsky was strong in net to help the Blue Jackets snap a three-game skid. For Hartnell, who played seven seasons in Philadelphia, it was his first three-point game of 2015-16. Bobrovsky began his NHL career with the Flyers and made 27 saves in the win.

Meanwhile, the Flyers' season-best four-game winning streak was put to rest. Philadelphia is 1-6-2 in its last nine matchups with Columbus.

            Senators 3, Islanders 2 (OT)

OTTAWA -- Erik Karlsson took a pass from Bobby Ryan to score the overtime winner with 1:26 left for Ottawa.

The loss snapped the Islanders' winning streak at four games, while the Senators won a second game in a row.

Senators winger Mike Hoffman scored his 10th goal in the last nine games with 36.2 seconds left in regulation.

Matt Martin and Josh Bailey had the goals for the Islanders. Mark Stone had the other goal for the Senators. Senators goalie Craig Anderson stopped 28 shots, while Halak made 27 saves.

            Maple Leafs 4, Blues 1

ST. LOUIS -- Nazem Kadri scored two goals and Brad Boyes and Roman Polak combined to burn their former team and lead Toronto over St. Louis.

The Maple Leafs ended a long drought against the Blues with their first regulation win in 10 games, a streak that dated back to Feb. 6, 2007.

A goal by Boyes, the first of his career in seven games against the Blues, gave him at least one goal against every team in the NHL. Polak earned two assists as the Maple Leafs took a 3-1 lead after the second period.

            Hurricanes 3, Canadiens 2

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Jeff Skinner scored his second goal of the game five seconds into a power play with 7:32 left and goalie Cam Ward stopped 36 shots as Carolina snapped a three-game skid.

Carolina, 29th out of 30 teams on the power play, scored two man-advantage goals for only the second time this season to improve to 9-13-4.

Montreal rookie Sven Andrighetto scored his third goal in seven games.

            Wild 3, Avalanche 0

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- Minnesota blanked Colorado for its third win in a row.

The Wild got goals from defenseman Matt Dumba and right winger Justin Fontaine, as well as an empty-net goal from right winger Jason Pominville, and have now gone more than two full games without allowing a goal.

But Minnesota starting goalie Devan Dubnyk left the game in the second period with a lower-body injury and did not return. Dubnyk, who has played in 23 of Minnesota's 26 games, stopped 11 shots, while his replacement, Darcy Kuemper, stopped nine and got credit for the win.

            Bruins 4, Canucks 0

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Landon Ferraro scored a goal and added an assist and goaltender Tuukka Rask stopped 17 shots as Boston defeated Vancouver.

Brad Marchand, Torey Krug and Tyler Randell also scored for Boston.

It was Rask's third shutout of the season and 29th of his career.

            Jets 2, Capitals 1

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Mark Scheifele ripped home the winning goal with just 20 seconds left in overtime as Winnipeg beat red-hot Washington 2-1.

Scheifele took a pass from Jacob Trouba and beat Braden Holtby for his 10th goal of the season.

Connor Hellebuyck picked up his third consecutive victory in just three NHL starts, stopping 37 shots.

            Kings 5, Penguins 3

LOS ANGELES -- Jake Muzzin had a goal and two assists and Milan Lucic added two goals as Los Angeles defeated Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh lost for the third time in its last four games.

            Lightning 4, Sharks 3

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Nikita Kucherov scored two goals and Tampa Bay extended San Jose's home woes.

The Sharks converted three of a season-high eight power-play tries, but they lost for the fifth time in their last six home games.
