    Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

Westgate Super Contest (1,727 entrants-- prize pool is $2.5M)
six most popular picks in Week 11 season record: 30-29-2

    6) Broncos +1 (404)-- Osweiler getting first NFL start in his fourth year.

    5) Vikings -1 (409)-- Minnesota covered its last eight games.

    4) Bengals +5 (410)-- Long trip on short week after first loss.

    3) Packers +1 (414)-- Lot of opinions on this game, both ways.

    2) Jets -2 (514)-- Fitzpatrick had left thumb operated on nine days ago.

    1) Cowboys even (515)-- As you can tell, Romo is back at QB.

    **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday.......

    13) Michigan State 17, Ohio State 14-- When was last time Buckeyes had five first downs in an entire game? Spartans held Ohio State to 132 yards on 45 plays; they've beaten Michigan/Ohio State without leading at any time before the last play. After the game, rats started jumping off the Ohio State ship (see quote above).

    12) Baylor 45, Oklahoma State 35-- Bears hadn't won in Stillwater since 1939, but they were the dominant team in this game; It is interesting how a guy like RGIII was such a great player at Baylor but when he goes to the pros, he is useless; is Art Briles that great a coach that he puts his players in a position to win better than the coaches in the NFL? When the #3 QB comes in and looks like Dan Fouts......

    11) Ole Miss 38, LSU 17-- Wheels have fallen off for the Tigers, who lost last three games and looked totally disorganized at times in this game- they've got 40 guys in the NFL, most of any school-- as a result are very, very young in some spots, their main weakness is at QB. How that kid still plays is beyond me; he isn't good.

    10) Oregon 48, USC 28-- Vernon Adams threw six TDs, had five incompletions; that is usually a good sign you're going to win- they averaged over 16 ypa, while Trojans had 12 penalties for 124 yards.

    9) North Carolina 30, Virginia Tech 27 OT-- When Tar Heels lost their opener to South Carolina, who would've thought UNC wouldn't lose again while Spurrier would not finish season? This was an emotional day in Blacksburg, Frank Beamer's last game at Virginia Tech after 29 years.

    8) Northern Iowa 71, North Carolina 67-- Tar Heels' basketball team has a tradition of playing a road game near home of their older players- this game was for Marcus Paige, but he is hurt and hasn't played yet, which cost them here. Good win for MVC and for anyone who beats Northern Iowa this season, as far as power ratings go.

    7) Some other basketball doings Saturday:
Davidson 82, Charleston 81-- Rick Barry's son Canyon had 31 for Charleston, is averaging 28 ppg.......Little Rock 49, San Diego State 43-- Ugly offense for Aztecs.

    6) Northwestern 13, Wisconsin 7-- Not often a team is -5 in turnovers, goes 2-13 on third down and only loses 13-7. This game was so bad that Badger fans were throwing snowballs at the Wisconsin cheerleaders in the second half.

    5) UConn 20, Houston 17-- Cougars raised their coach's salary 250% this week and then promptly lost for first time. Still amazes me that UConn and Houston are in the same league-- thats an NFL-length road trip for a game.

    4) As for the SEC, why on God's green earth do they play I-AA teams? Alabama should be embarrassed to play a I-AA team, it is ripping off fans who pay to go to the games and it makes zero sense. Then South Carolina loses to The Citadel- no bueno.

Florida 20, Florida Atlantic 14 OT
Georgia 23, Georgia Southern 17 OT-- Whichever league is best is cyclical, lot of it depends on which teams don't lose guys early to the NFL, but I don't want to hear boo about how great the SEC is this year, because it isn't.

Their games are still lot of fun to watch on TV, but the quality of the QBs in the SEC stinks except for Prescott, Kelly and the kid at Arkansas. Going OT with teams from the Sun Belt and C-USA is embarrassing, though not nearly as bad as losing to I-AA Citadel, like South Carolina did.

    3) Kansas State 38, Iowa State 35-- Cyclones had the ball and 35-28 lead with 1:31 left and K-State was down to one timeout. Any idiot knows you take a knee three times, punt the ball with less than 0:20 left and go home happy, but no, they run the ball and fumble. K-State ties the game, kicks off and Iowa State fumbles again. Oy.

I'm not a big "fire the coach" guy, but Paul Rhoads deserves to get the ziggy after this horrendous exhibition of coaching malpractice.

    2) South Florida 65, Cincinnati 27-- Imagine betting on Cincinnati, laying 2.5 points and watching them trail 51-3 at the half? Tommy Tuberville expressed interest in the vacant Miami job; I'm guessing this will get his name scratched off that list.

    1) Mississippi State 51, Arkansas 50-- Razorbacks scored 50+ points in three of last five games, didn't win any of them in regulation- they won twice in OT.
