    Armadillo: Saturday's six-pack

-- Mets 9, Royals 3-- Home team is 3-0 so far in World Series.

-- Thunder 139, Magic 136 2OT-- This was a great game; there were three made 3's in last 0:14 of regulation.

-- Purdue's ace basketball recruit, Caleb Swanigan, is now eligible; he was adopted five years ago by a guy who is an agent, which caused a delay.

-- Texas Longhorns are signing a 15-year, $250M deal with Nike.

-- Dolphins lost DL Cameron Wake (achilles) for the year; big loss.

-- RIP Mel Daniels, one of the great players in ABA history. Indiana Pacers were a power in the ABA; Daniels was a great power forward.

Armadillo: Saturday's Den: DDLohaus picks the Breeders' Cup......

Friday didn't start out very good; our selections in the first Breeders Cup race finished in the bottom three....but we bounced back with a nice exacta. Scratched out of our final bet.

    Overall 1-2-1 for a small loss of $38.00 for the day. Pletcher had a big first day and he may be finally able to silent the critics about not being able to win at Breeders' Cup;

Today should be a lot of fun with some great racing. Going to enjoy watching these horses do what they were born to do.... let's get some cash. Have fun!

NHL roundup: Zuccarello hat trick leads hot Rangers

NEW YORK -- Right winger Mats Zuccarello had a hat trick and goaltender Henrik Lundqvist made 23 saves as the New York Rangers took care of the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1 at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.

Center Derick Brassard and left winger Rick Nash had three assists for the Rangers. Right winger Joffrey Lupul scored for the Maple Leafs.

Maple Leafs goaltender Jonathan Bernier stopped 23 of 25 shots.

The Rangers (7-2-2) are 4-0-2 in their past six games, while the Maple Leafs (1-6-2) have lost five straight.

Zuccarello's fifth goal of the season gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 9:41 of the first period.

          Capitals 2, Blue Jackets 1

WASHINGTON -- Washington newcomers Justin Williams and T.J. Oshie each scored a goal, Braden Holtby stopped 29 shots and the Capitals defeated Columbus.

Oshie, acquired in an offseason trade with St. Louis, made it 2-0 with just over eight minutes left in the game when he completed a pretty passing sequence by firing past goalie Sergei Bobrovsky from the slot.

Columbus left winger Matt Calvert cut the deficit to 2-1 with 5:15 remaining when he scored during a scramble in front of Holtby.

          Sabres 3, Flyers 1

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Ryan O'Reilly had a goal and two assists to lead Buffalo to a victory over Philadelphia.

Jack Eichel, Buffalo's 18-year-old center, scored his fourth goal of the season, matching O'Reilly for the team lead. Nicolas Deslauriers also scored for the Sabres.

Sabres goaltender Linus Ullmark made 26 saves in his second career start. At 22, Ullmark is the youngest goalie to earn a win for the Sabres since 21-year-old Mika Noronen in 2000.

O'Reilly, the Sabres' top-line center, matched his career high with three points and extended his points streak to five games, during which he has recorded three goals and seven assists.

          Hurricanes 3, Avalanche 2

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Carolina produced all its offense after the midway mark of the game, posting a victory against Colorado at PNC Arena to run its winning streak to three games.

Potentially road weary after seven consecutive games on the road, the Hurricanes picked up the pace and received goals from Victor Rask, Justin Faulk and Jeff Skinner.

Cam Ward made 28 saves for the Hurricanes, who played a home game for the first time in more than two weeks.

          Senators 3, Red Wings 1

DETROIT -- Andrew Hammond made 29 saves to backstop Ottawa to a win over Detroit at Joe Louis Arena.

Kyle Turris, Matt Puempel and Bobby Ryan scored goals for Ottawa.

Henrik Zetterberg scored for Detroit, which lost its sixth in seven games. Goalie Jimmy Howard stopped 32 shots.

          Wild 5, Blackhawks 4

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- In a game where it seemed the team that scored last was destined to win, Nino Niederreiter's goal early in the third period was the difference in Minnesota's triumph over Chicago.

In the first meeting of these Central Division rivals since Chicago's sweep in round two of the playoffs last spring, the Wild also got goals from Jason Zucker, Ryan Carter, Charlie Coyle and Jared Spurgeon, improving to 5-0-0 at home. Minnesota goalie Devan Dubnyk had 26 saves in the win.

It was the second loss in as many nights for Chicago, which got a pair of goals from Jonathan Toews and single goals by Brent Seabrook and Artem Anisimov. Blackhawks goalie Scott Darling, making his third start of the season, finished with 25 saves.

          Bruins 3, Panthers 1

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Brad Marchand scored two goals to lead Boston to a win over its Atlantic Division rivals, Florida, at the BB&T Center.

Boston improved to 4-0-0 on the road this season.

The Bruins, who have the top-ranked power-play in the NHL this season, got a pair of goals with the man advantage -- one by Marchand and the second by Zdeno Charra, who also had an assist in the game.

Florida, which went 3-for-3 on the power play in its previous game, a 4-1 win over Colorado, also scored on its special teams -- a goal by Nick Bjugstad that came on a five-on-three situation.

          Canadiens 6, Flames 2

CALGARY, Alberta -- Dale Weise scored three goals and Montreal snapped a two-game losing streak with a win over struggling Calgary.

The Canadiens had won nine straight to start the season before dropping back-to-back games in Vancouver and Edmonton this week prior to coming to Calgary, where their hosts are now 1-5-1.

Weise completed his hat trick with just over eight minutes remaining, drawing a shower of hats from the Canadiens fans in attendance.

          Canucks 4, Coyotes 3

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Vancouver goalie Richard Bachman helped the Canucks shed some unwanted baggage in his first start of the season. Bachman stopped 29 shots and Vancouver got goals from four different players to post a win over Arizona at Gila River Arena.

In four of the Canucks' six losses this season, they had blown a third-period lead, but Vancouver held off an Arizona push in the final frame to post its fourth road win in five games, where it has earned nine of a possible 10 points.

The loss was the second straight for Arizona, which has dropped six of its last eight games after a 3-0 start.
