    Armadillo: Friday's six-pack

-- Colts 27, Texans 20-- Gutty effort by 40-year old QB Hasselbeck, who was sick for much of the week before this game.

-- NFL teams coming off a bye are 386-376 vs spread; under is 403-372, so no real trends have emerged as far as post-bye teams go.

-- Washington 17, USC 12-- Natives in Trojan Nation are officially restless.

-- Minnesota 5, Colorado 4-- Avalanche led 4-1, then gave up four goals in 5:07 as the Wild won its opener. Colorado coach Patrick Roy was not happy. Not at all.

-- Not only are road teams 4-0 in baseball playoffs, home team hasn't led in any of the games yet.

-- Restaurant recommendation: Fellini's in the Stratosphere-- this is a very good place to eat. I had chicken parm; their bread is as good as I've ever had.

    **********

Armadillo: Friday's List of 13: Things I'm looking for this weekend.......

    13) NLDS series start today; road teams are 4-0 so far in playoffs, under is 3-0-1. Shadows shouldn't be a problem in LA; at 5:10 Thursday, shadows were already in the outfield, so the hitters should be able to see just fine.

    12) There are only three 4:00 games Sunday; NFL was banking on NE-Dallas game to entertain America for three hours, but with Romo out, can Cowboys compete?

    11) Georgia got squashed at home last week by Alabama; Tennessee lost last two games, both at home. Loser of this game is going to take some serious heat.

    10) Seattle hasn't allowed a TD since Kam Chancellor came back; Cincinnati's offense is underrated because national media doesn't care about the Bengals. Interesting matchup; this would've been a good 4:25 Sunday game

    9) Northwestern has been tormented by Michigan in last three meetings; a 10-9 loss and two OT losses. Wildcats are 5-0; can they score on Michigan's stout defense?

    8) Buffalo is 2-2, but losses were to Brady/Eli Manning, both multiple Super Bowl winners; this is a game Bills have to have if they are payoff contenders.

    7) Clemson had an emotional win last week; now skidding Georgia Tech comes to town and this is a dangerous game for the Tigers.

    6) If Texas loses to Oklahoma Saturday and the Eagles get upset by New Orleans Sunday, the Chip Kelly-to-Texas rumors are going to gain momentum. Philly is at its best when Bradford throws long; maybe they should do it more often.

    5) Rams seem to play with more spunk against divisional rivals; Todd Gurley gave the offense a huge boost last week in Arizona; can he do it again this week at Lambeau Field, where Aaron Rodgers is usually close to being perfect?

    4) Navy is 10-1 vs spread in its last 11 visits to Notre Dame; Irish are licking their wounds after the Clemson loss. Navy is 24-9 as an underdog since 2005.

    3) 4-0 Falcons are turning into a juggernaut; OC Kyle Shanahan once got fired by the Redskins, along with his dad. Think this game is personal to him?

    2) Who thought Cal-Utah would be a huge Pac-12 game? Well, it is.

    1) Why is Tampa Bay favored over anyone? Only reason I'm not taking Jaguars this week is that it is their third week in row on road, usually a very bad spot for visiting NFL teams.

Sabres G Lehner exits game with leg injury

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Buffalo Sabres goalie Robin Lehner left Thursday's season opener against the Ottawa Senators due to a right leg injury.

Lehner appeared to injure his right leg on a routine butterfly save 7:30 into the second period. After being checked out by trainers, Lehner attempted to skate but had difficulty putting weight on the injured leg.

He was spotted after the 3-1 loss to the Senators with a cast on his right leg and Sabres coach Dan Bylsma said the injury "doesn't look like it's short-term."

"It's more than day to day at this point in time, and we need to evaluate it further," Bylsma said.

Lehner, who was making his first start for the Sabres after being acquired from the Senators in a trade this offseason, was replaced by Chad Johnson, who stopped eight of the nine shots he faced.

NHL roundup: Lightning top Flyers in OT

TAMPA, Fla. -- Jason Garrison scored on a breakaway in overtime -- his second goal of the night -- to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night in the season opener at Amalie Arena.

Garrison's winner came with 2:43 left in overtime, shortly after Tampa Bay goalie Ben Bishop blocked a penalty shot -- the Flyers also missed one wide in the first period -- to preserve a 2-2 tie in the first three-on-three overtime in NHL history.

Garrison also scored the game's first goal in the second period. Matt Read and Brayden Schenn followed with goals for Philadelphia, Schenn's on a power play, to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead. Ryan Callahan equalized on a Tampa Bay power play late in the middle period.

Bishop stopped 23 shots in the win. Flyers goalie Steve Mason made 29 saves.

        Jets 6, Bruins 2

BOSTON -- Winnipeg, forced to begin the season with four games in six nights on the road, ended the franchise's 13-game TD Garden losing streak with a victory over Boston.

The Jets, who last won in Boston as the Atlanta Thrashers on March 31, 2007, scored three goals in the second period and three in the third to clear out the sellout crowd.

Mark Scheifele, Blake Wheeler and Drew Stafford scored the second-period goals. and goaltender Ondrej Pavelec stopped 29 shots in the win.

        Senators 3, Sabres 1

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Kyle Turris scored twice, leading Ottawa to a win over Buffalo in the season opener for both teams.

Senators goalie Craig Anderson made 26 saves, and right winger Curtis Lazar added an empty-net goal. Making his much-anticipated NHL debut, second overall draft pick Jack Eichel scored in his first game with Buffalo.

Sabres goaltender Robin Lehner made 11 saves before leaving 7:30 into the second period due to a lower-body injury. He appeared to injure his left leg on a routine save.

        Predators 2, Hurricanes 1

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Scoring his team's first goal for the second consecutive home opener, Craig Smith helped Nashville open a season of great expectations with a win over Carolina.

With Carolina's Jordan Staal in the penalty box after high-sticking Ryan Ellis in the first minute, Smith tipped in Ellis' shot at 2:23, and the Predators had a lead they never relinquished.

Rookie Viktor Arvidsson added his first NHL goal at 17:03 of the first period off a bizarre double deflection. Seth Jones' wrister from the point caromed off Calle Jarnkrok and was then redirected in by Arvidsson, who celebrated his milestone tally with a Tiger Woods-style fist pump.

        Blues 3, Oilers 1

ST. LOUIS -- Robby Fabbri celebrated his first game in the NHL by scoring the game-winning goal in the third period, giving St. Louis a win over Edmonton.

Fabbri, the Blues' first pick in the 2014 draft, converted a behind-the-back pass from Jori Lehtera at 9:29 of the period to break a 1-1 tie. He is the first Blues player to score a goal in his NHL debut since Vladimir Tarasenko, who scored the Blues' first goal Thursday night.

Troy Brouwer added an empty-net goal in the closing seconds.

        Stars 3, Penguins 0

DALLAS -- Ales Hemsky had a goal and an assist and Antti Niemi stopped all 33 shots he faced for his 33rd career shutout in his Dallas debut as the Stars defeated Pittsburgh at American Airlines Center in the season opener for both teams.

Niemi also had two assists for Dallas, who received goals from rookie Mattias Janmark and captain Jamie Benn.

Janmark opened the scoring by tapping in a cross-ice pass from Hemsky 1:39 into the game.

        Wild 5, Avalanche 4

DENVER -- Zach Parise scored three goals, two of them in a furious third-period comeback, and Minnesota rallied to defeat Colorado.

Nino Niederreiter and Thomas Vanek also scored for the Wild. Devan Dubnyk had 19 saves.

The Avalanche led 4-1 after the second period on goals from Jarome Iginla and Gabriel Landeskog, John Mitchell and Erik Johnson. Minnesota erased that deficit and went ahead in a span of five minutes, seven seconds in the third. Parise got the first goal, Niederreiter made it 4-3 just 1:58 later, and Vanek tied it with a wrister that went by Semyon Varlamov and rattled off both posts.
