    Armadillo: Wednesday's six-pack

Athlon college football magazine's six coaches on hot seat this year:

    6) Kevin Wilson, Indiana-- Four years, no bowls=no job security

    5) Ron Caragher, San Jose State-- Mike MacIntyre was tough act to follow.

    4) Al Golden, Miami-- 16-16 in ACC games; the natives are restless.

    3) Norm Chow, Hawai'i-- 4-9 last year was actually a big improvement.

    2) Tim Beckman, Illinois-- This was before abuse allegations surfaced.

    1) Mike London, Virginia-- 11-29 in ACC games; that not good.

    **********

Armadillo: Wednesday's List of 13: Random mid-week thoughts.......

    13) Cavaliers 118, Hawks 88-- Atlanta had a terrific season, but 4-0 sweep in this series leaves a sour taste.

    12) Cleveland was 97-215 in the four years Lebron James played for the Heat; now they're in the NBA Finals again. Who is the MVP?

    11) My all-time NBA team: Magic-Jordan-Lebron-Russell-Kareem.

    10) Rangers 7, Lightning 3-- 27 goals were scored in three games in Tampa in this series- Game 7 in Friday night in Manhattan.

    9) Adrian Gonzalez got his 1,000th RBI last night; why did the Padres ever get rid of him? Boston traded him so they could shed the hideous contracts of Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett. San Diego has no such excuses.

    8) Broadcaster Kenny Albert has had two separate 11-day stretches since April 1 when he called a baseball or hockey game every day. The man works hard.

    7) Pablo Sandoval was 3-42 vs lefty pitchers, so the switch-hitter batted lefty against Glen Perkins in 8th inning last night and got an infield hit.

    6) Josh Donaldson had four hits, two HRs, one of which was a walk-off, scored five runs, knocked in four as Toronto beat the White Sox 10-9. He is the first player in at least 100 years to do all that in the same game.

    5) Meanwhile the A's lost 1-0 to a lefty pitcher in Oakland; they make movies about GMs, but great players are the ones who win games. A's are 1-10 when a lefty starter goes against them, after they traded Cespedes/Donaldson.

    4) Hanley Ramirez has one RBI in May; today is May 27th. Oy.

    3) Miami Marlins are incredibly dysfunctional; now come reports that the new bench coach and third base coach Brett Butler are at odds, after Butler lost his 3rd base coaching job and was demoted to outfield coach.

    2) Kenny Payne is Kentucky's #1 basketball recruiter; he makes $700K a year, more than 22 of the 68 head coaches in this year's NCAA tournament.

    1) When Michael Jordan retired from the Bulls, he had played 35,887 regular season minutes; right now, Lebron James has played 35,769.

What bettors need to know: Ducks at Blackhawks
        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anaheim Ducks at Chicago Blackhawks (-140, 5)

        Ducks lead series 3-2

The Anaheim Ducks look to stamp their ticket to the Stanley Cup final when they visit the Chicago Blackhawks for Game 6 of the Western Conference final on Wednesday. Anaheim pushed Chicago to the brink of elimination Monday with a wild 5-4 overtime victory, continuing the series trend of alternating victories.

The Ducks opened a 3-0 lead before the Blackhawks registered a shot on goal but found themselves tied after regulation for the third time in the matchup as Chicago captain Jonathan Toews scored twice in the final 1:50 of the third period to erase a 4-2 deficit. Matt Beleskey ended things quickly, however, burying a rebound 45 seconds into overtime to put Anaheim one win away from the second Stanley Cup final appearance in franchise history. The Ducks also were up 3-2 against Los Angeles in last year's conference semifinals, but the Kings evened the series at home before capturing Game 7 at Honda Center en route to their second championship in three years. The Blackhawks have trailed 3-2 in four playoff series since 2011 and won Game 6 three times.

        TV:
8 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC, TVA

        LINE HISTORY:
The Blackhawks opened -140 and the total opened at 5.

        INJURY REPORT:
        Ducks - D Sheldon SOuray (Out-Wrist) Blackhawks - D Michal Rozsival (Out-Ankle)

        ABOUT THE DUCKS:
Ryan Getzlaf set up a pair of goals Monday, giving him at least one assist in each game of the series. The captain has collected 19 points this postseason, eclipsing the previous franchise playoff record he set in 2009. Coach Bruce Boudreau is not concerned about goaltender Frederik Andersen, who uncharacteristically allowed several soft goals in Game 5. "He's played so many good games in a row and he's bailed us out so often," Boudreau said. "It was time we bailed him out. He'll be back to his normal, great self (Wednesday)."

        ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS:
Chicago, which has used its fifth and sixth defensemen sparingly in the series, may insert rookie Trevor van Riemsdyk into the lineup Wednesday in place of either Kyle Cumiskey or the 40-year-old Kimmo Timonen. Cumiskey has seen less than 11 minutes of ice time in two of his four games, eclipsing that mark only in the multiple-overtime contests, while Timonen has topped 8:06 only twice in the five meetings with the Ducks - also the multi-OT affairs. The 23-year-old van Riemsdyk appeared in 18 games during his first NHL season but has not played since November due to knee and wrist injuries. "We'll see," coach Joel Quenneville said. "We'll see how he is. He's going to skate with us (Wednesday) morning."

        TRENDS:

*Ducks are 8-2 in their last 10 road games.
*Blackhawks are 20-6 in their last 26 after allowing 5 goals or more in their previous game.
*Under is 10-2 in the last 12 meetings in Chicago.
*Over is 8-3-2 in Ducks last 13 games following a win.

        CONSENSUS:
Sixty-seven percent of bettors are backing the Blackhawks.
