What bettors need to know: Lightning at Rangers
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tampa Bay Lightning at New York Rangers (-135, 5)

      Series tied 2-2

The New York Rangers have been at their best when backed into a corner in the postseason and continued that trend by reclaiming home ice in the Eastern Conference final. With the series now down to a best-of-three, the Presidents' Trophy-winning Rangers look to make it two straight wins in Game 5 on Sunday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Henrik Lundqvist was torched for 12 goals in back-to-back games but responded with a magnificent performance in Friday's 5-1 victory, making 38 saves to cool off the potent Lightning. "There was a lot of talk about him and about his play, but there wasn't any doubt from within our dressing room," New York coach Alain Vigneault said. Tampa Bay has scored six goals in each of its victories and tallied once in both of its defeats, but there was no loss of confidence after unleashing 79 shots on goal in the past two contests. "People are going to wake up in the morning and look at the box score and say, 'Oh, wow, Tampa got waxed,' " Lighting coach Jon Cooper said after the Game 4 loss. "But if you were in the building, you probably didn't see it that way."

      TV:
8 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC, TVA

      LINE HISTORY:
The lines opened at NYR -135 with a total of 5.

      INJURY REPORT:
      Lightning - D Matt Carle (Ques-Undisclosed) Rangers - LW Mats Zuccarello (Ques-Head)

      ABOUT THE LIGHTNING:
While the buzz after Game 3 centered Lundqvist's shaky play, there are suddenly questions surrounding Tampa Bay counterpart Ben Bishop after he surrendered five goals for the second consecutive outing. While Cooper dismissed questions of switching netminders, calling it "asinine," there are legitimate concerns over the Lightning's penalty-killing unit after allowing two power-play goals for the third straight game. "The penalty kill needs to be better," said Bishop, who lost for only the second time in 12 career starts against the Rangers. "It starts with me. Six goals in three games is unacceptable."

      ABOUT THE RANGERS:
While Lundqvist stole the headlines, an equally important development for New York was the revival of Rick Nash, who notched 42 goals in the regular season but had tallied only twice in the postseason before matching the total with a pair of goals Friday. "It's just natural to grip your stick a little bit tighter and to not see the ice as well when you're struggling," Nash said. "The puck doesn't feel comfortable on your stick, so any time you can get a goal and get a little confidence it helps." Former Lightning captain Martin St. Louis also broke through with his first tally of the postseason, ending an 18-game drought.

      TRENDS:

*Lightning are 10-3 in their last 13 games playing on 1 days rest.
*Rangers are 11-3 in their last 14 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game.
*Over is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.
*Under is 5-1-1 in Rangers last 7 home games.

      CONSENSUS:
70 percent of users are backing the Rangers with 53 percent on the over.

        Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

Top 6 teams as ranked by the Athlon Sports college football magazine, on newsstands everywhere.....

        6) USC-- Defense needs to improve after a "disappointing" 9-4 season.

        5) TCU-- Four seniors start on their offensive line, with a senior QB

        4) Auburn-- Will Muschamp is the new DC; they don't play Florida.

        3) Baylor-- Breaking in new QB; play Horned Frogs Nov 27.

        2) Alabama-- Only two starters back on offense; they open with Wisconsin.

        1) Ohio State-- Their #3 QB would start almost anywhere else.

        **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday.......

        13) Imagine if the Warriors win the NBA title and Steve Kerr quits as coach to go back to ESPN to replace Jeff Van Gundy if he goes to New Orleans? Would that be a unique situation or what?

        12) Tampa Bay Rays lost their GM, their manager, were given up for dead, but on May 24, they're in first place in AL East. Would be nice if their fans support them or they could wind up as the Montreal Expos one of these days.

        11) I've heard all the arguments, still don't get the value of a pitcher batting 8thin the lineup; think the only reason some teams do it is because Tony Larussa used to do it, so if its good enough for him, it must be smart. Thing is, Larussa never did it in the playoffs, which is the truest test of what he thought of it.

        10) Baseball players whine about playing 162 games, but they don't complain about how long spring training is; this I don't understand.

        9) Baseball season is seven weeks old today; I watch a lot of games every day and I'm thinking my favorite analyst right now is Bob Brenly out in Arizona. He talks about the game, he is friendly and you learn stuff listening to him.

        8) Mets are 7-14 on the road and David Wright has spinal stenosis; this isn't good for the New Yorkers, who need to use their pitching/catching depth to shore up their lineup and infield defense.

        7) Giants split a twinbill in Denver last night; their win streak ended at 8; last time they had a 9-game win streak was in 2004, even though they've won three of the last five World Series.

        6) Reds lost seven games in row; manager Brian Bleepin' Price was tossed before the game Saturday for bitching at the guy umpiring second base-- this was at home plate, while exchanging lineup cards.

Johnny Cueto was scratched from Sunday's start with a stiff elbow, so things aren't going too well for Cincinnati right now.

        5) One of my favorite movie scenes: Steve Martin runs amuck in Roxanne:

        4) Warriors 115, Rockets 80-- I gave up Houston for dead after they fell behind the Clippers 3-1 in last series; this will be a much tougher hill to climb.

        3) NBA teams are 0-116 in 7-game series when they trailed 3-0.

        2) If you're making a list of all-time great shooters, where is Curry on it?

        1) Hank Aaron had 301 more RBI than anyone else who ever played.

Lundqvist needs to play lights out to beat Lightning

The New York Rangers put on a big statement game with a 5-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final. More than anything that win highlighted just how Henrik Lundqvist's play has affected the Rangers outcomes against Tampa.

In Lundy's two career wins against the Lightning he has a 1.00 goals against average. In his five career losses to Tampa, Lundqvist is sporting a 5.20 GAA and has allowed at least four goals in each of those contests.

Madison Square Garden will host Game 5 of the series Sunday with the Rangers currently a -135 favorite.
