    Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

-- Rangers 2, Lightning 1-- All 13 Ranger playoff games were decided by a goal.

-- Louisiana Tech hired Miami assistant Eric Konkol as basketball coach; he was the top assistant for Jim Larranaga for the last 11 years.

-- Miguel Cabrera and Adrian Beltre both hit their 400th home runs this week.

-- American Pharoah is first horse to win the Preakness from the pole since 1994.

-- White Sox 4, A's 3-- Oakland is a depressing 1-12 in one-run games; if this was 1980 and Billy Martin was in charge, he'd never, ever utilize this bullpen.

-- Rory McIlroy shot a 61 Saturday, leads at Quail Hollow by four strokes.

    **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday.........

    13) A 9th grader named Shareef O'Neal averaged 3.7 ppg in high school LY, but has a scholarship offer from USC in his pocket. Why? Because young O'Neal has a very famous daddy-- Shaquille O'Neal.

    12) They're going to build a bridge between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario; the bridge is going to be named after hockey great Gordie Howe. The bridge is expected to be finished in 2020.

    11) Stanford's marching band has been banned from travelling for a year, after a series of hazing/harassment incidents. Stanford might be the only school whose band is more of a behavioral problem than its players.

    10) John Calipari brings a guy into Kentucky to prep his players on how the NBA teams interview players at the NBA Combine- that helps them get picked higher in the draft, which in turn helps his recrutiing down the road.

    9) Milwaukee Brewers 2B Scooter Gennett recently got married in an odd place, in the caves under the actual Miller Brewery in Milwaukee.

    8) SEC/Big X have a basketball challenge next January 30; best game of the day, by far, is Kansas-Kentucky. West Virginia-Florida, Oklahoma-LSU ain't bad matchups either.

    7) When was last time a team's home run leader batted ninth? Wilmer Flores batted 9th for the Mets Saturday and hit a grand slam as they pounded on the Brewers 14-1. Flores is a sub-standard fielder, but he can hit a little.

    6) Purdue's football attendance dropped 13,684 fans per home game last year; numbers like that can get a coach fired.

    5) Hard to believe it has been 39 years since the original Rocky was in movie theaters; the theater I saw it in has been gone for years, but Sylvester Stallone still looks fairly young. How is that possible?

    4) Dodgers gave Cuban infielder Hector Olivera $62.5M for six years; why and what are they going to do with all these big contracts? Olivera is 30 years old and is said to have a bad elbow- its almost like they're paying guys not to play for other teams that they could help more than the Dodgers.

    3) Ever hear of Pete Thomas? He has the rare distinction of starting a game at QB for three Division I colleges; Colorado State, NC State and UL-Monroe. Thomas is trying out for the Chargers as a free agent; if nothing else, he will be able to write a hell of a book someday

    2) While I was typing this, I watched the movie about the high school football team that won 150 games in a row; much better than I thought it would be.

    1) When the Rockets won Game 6 at Staples Center Thursday night, it was the first time the Rockets had ever won a Game 6 on the road, as in....ever.

What bettors need to know: Blackhawks at Ducks
        ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chicago Blackhawks at Anaheim Ducks (-130, 5)

The Chicago Blackhawks continue their quest for a third Stanley Cup championship in six years when they visit the Anaheim Ducks for Game 1 of the Western Conference final on Sunday afternoon. Chicago ended a 48-year title drought when it defeated Philadelphia in six games in 2010 and took out fellow Original Six member Boston four years later - also in six games - for the fifth championship in franchise history.

The Blackhawks have reached the conference final for the third straight postseason and fifth time in seven campaigns, knocking off Nashville in six games in the first round before sweeping Minnesota. Anaheim is making its first conference final appearance since 2007, when it went on to beat Ottawa in five games to capture its first Stanley Cup. The top-seeded Ducks had a bit of an easier time getting here, as they swept Winnipeg in the opening round before needing only five games to get past Calgary in the conference semifinals. It is the fourth trip to the conference final in franchise history for Anaheim, which is facing Chicago in the playoffs for the first time.

        TV:
3 p.m. ET, NBC, CBC, TVA

        LINE HISTORY:
Anaheim opened as -135 favorites before being bet down to -130. The total has not moved of 5.

        INJURY REPORT:
        Blackhawks - D Michal Rosival (Out-Ankle) Ducks - RW Corey Perry (Prob-Knee)

        ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS:
Chicago, which has been idle since eliminating the Wild on May 7, is hoping Patrick Kane can continue his torrid pace against Anaheim. The 26-year-old missed the final seven weeks of the regular season with a broken clavicle but has returned with a vengeance, recording at least one point in all but one of his 10 playoff contests. Kane, who enters the series with a seven-game point streak and a five-game goal-scoring run, is tied for second in the league in both points (13) and tallies (seven) this postseason.

        ABOUT THE DUCKS:
While the Blackhawks have two players (Kane and captain Jonathan Toews, 11 points) in the top seven in playoff scoring, Anaheim boasts three - league leader Corey Perry (15), captain Ryan Getzlaf (12) and Jakob Silfverberg (11). Perry, who is tied with Kane at seven goals, has produced a pair of four-point performances and been held off the scoresheet only twice in nine games. The former Hart Trophy winner suffered a right leg injury in Game 5 of the conference semifinals but claims to be ready to face the Blackhawks after being off since May 10, when he came back to score the series-winning goal in overtime. "I feel great," he said on Saturday - his 30th birthday." I feel fine on the ice, and everything went well the last couple of days, so I've got no issues."

        TRENDS:

*Road team is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.
*Blackhawks are 5-0 in their last 5 overall.
*Under is 20-6 in the last 26 meetings.
*Blackhawks are 8-21-2 in the last 31 meetings in Anaheim.

        CONSENSUS:
54.38 percent of users are backing the Ducks with 63.3 percent on the over.

Ducks' RW Corey Perry, probable Sunday

Perry is expected to be ready for Game 1 of the Western Conference Final against the Blackhawks despite dealing with a knee injury.

Rangers open conference final with another under

The New York Rangers opened the Eastern Conference semi final with a 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning Sunday, going under yet another total.

With the win, the under is now 10-2-1 in 13 playoff games this postseason, mostly thanks to the ridiculous play of goaltender Henrik Lundqvist.

Lundqvist is 9-4 this postseason with a crazy good 1.56 goals against average and a .945 save percentage.

With the incredible run the Rangers are on, the total for Monday's Game 2 at Madison Square Garden has opened at a low 4.5.
