    Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

-- Toronto Raptors are now 0-7 in Game 1's in first round series.

-- Edmonton Oilers won NHL Draft Lottery, will have first pick in draft for fourth time in last six years. When are they going to become good?

-- Adam Jones has used the same bat in batting practice for four years.

-- 80-year old John Amironte has sung national anthem at NY Ranger games for 35 years; he is "retiring", will be missed. Saturday was his last game.

-- Alabama has 11 tight ends listed on its spring football roster. Eleven.

-- Nashville Sounds, AAA team of the A's has a scoreboard that is shaped like a guitar, seeing as Nashville is Music City.

    **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday.........

    13) FOX Sports hired Pete Rose as a studio analyst for baseball telecasts, a rare burst of sanity in an increasingly insane world. Rose still makes over $1M a year signing autographs, mostly in Las Vegas-- someday baseball will wise up and induct him into Cooperstown, where he belongs.

    12) Wizards 93, Raptors 86 OT-- Teams conbined to go 12-50 from arc in this brickfest, only road win of the four games Saturday. Toronto's subs outscored Washington's 48-27, but Raptor starters were combined -30 in an OT game.

    11) Warriors 106, Pelicans 99-- Golden State was up 18 at half, won despite getting only three baskets (3-12, 12 points) from bench. Tyreke Evans got hurt for New Orleans, played only 12 minutes.

    10) Bulls 103, Bucks 91-- In NBA playoffs, coaches have lot more time to prepare, making it more like college ball; Thibodeau vs Kidd is a big mismatch as far as tactics go. More importantly, Chicago has better players.

    9) Rockets 118, Mavericks 108-- I'm guessing Mark Cuban won't like the 32-14 edge Houston had on foul line, but they also had 29 fast break points and hit 10-25 3-pointers. Funny that Stoudemire/Prigioni are in this series; at least some of this year's Knicks made the playoffs.

    8) When Marlins pitcher Mat Latos was five years old, he went to the Marlins' first-ever home game, in Joe Robbie Stadium.

    7) Purdue center AJ Hammond is coming back to school next year, a big boost for the Boilermakers, who might be a top 25 team now.

    6) Royals/A's aren't getting along well this weekend, after Alcides Escobar was injured Friday night on a play at second base, when Brett Lawrie slid hard into the bag. KC was upset because Lawrie actually tried hard on the play, instead of giving up the way lot of guys do.

Benches emptied both nights, nothing happened, because it is baseball after all, but Yordano Ventura drilled Lawrie last night and was ejected- he was mad because Josh Reddick hit a homer off him that might still be going, the batter before Lawrie got plunked.

    5) Hanley Ramirez hit a ball in batting practice Friday that took a chunk out of the Green Monster; he chipped a piece of the wall off.

    4) They put 99,391 people into the big Horseshoe for the spring football game at Ohio State yesterday. Cardale Jones threw a ball 74 yards, which is really far to throw a football. Imagine 99,000 people going to a glorified scrimmage?

    3) Stephen Collier is Ohio State's 4th-string QB; QBs ALWAYS wear the different colored jersey in practice, so no one hits him, right? Collier was the only OSU QB who wasn't wearing one, so it was OK to drill the guy!!!. If I'm Collier, who must be pretty good to even be on Ohio State's roster, I'm taking a look at transferring to a school where they might care if I got hurt.

    2) Buffalo Sabres lost out on prize draft prospect Connor McDavid (he played for the Erie Otters in juniors, just a great nickname), but they'll likely land Jack Eichel from Boston U-- he actually wants to play in Buffalo, so good for them.

    1) A's pitcher Jesse Hahn and Mets' pitcher Matt Harvey went to high school together in Connecticut; must've had a pretty good baseball team.

      Armadillo's Write-Up

      Sunday, April 19

Islanders had 3-1 lead with 4:00 left in second period of Game 2, lost 4-3, are 4-7 in last 11 games overall, with over 5-2-1 in last eight. Isles are 0-3 on power play in series-- only two penalties were called in all of Game 2. Caps won six of their last nine games with over 7-2-1 in last ten- they outshot Islanders 30-14 in last two periods, after being outshot 34-30 in first four periods of series. Home side won five of last six series games; teams split last four games played here.

Chicago will start Darling in goal here, after they were outscored 4-0 in last 25:06 of Game 2. Hawks lost five of last six games overall; they were down 3-0 in first period of game they won. Nashville lost four of last six games with Chicago; they snapped 7-game skid overall with Game 2 win. Predators have outshot Chicago 28-12 in first period in series; only two of their nine series goals were on power play. There have been 15 goals scored in first two series games, most of any series so far. Teams split last four games played here.

Canadiens scored 3:40 into OT to take 2-0 series edge, after Ottawa had won six of last seven games in regular season to sneak into playoffs; six of seven Montreal goals have come in second period, as Canadiens outshot Ottawa 33-20 in 2nd period in series. Montreal won its last four games overall, allowing 12 goals; over is 5-0-3 in their last eight games. Ottawa is 3-5 on power play in series, but have only two even-strength goals. Over is 7-1-2 in last ten series games. Teams split last four games played here.

Vancouver outshot Flames 13-3 in first period of Game 2, taking charge early in 4-1 wins, as Calgary hasn't scored a goal in first two periods this series. Flames will get boost from home crowd, but have to have some doubt; they've lost last seven first round series- last series win was in 1993. Both teams won six of last nine games; under is 5-1-1 in last seven Calgary games. Flames won three of last four games with Vancouver, despite scoring seven goals in four games. Under is 3-0-2 in last five series games.

Home teams are 11-5 in this round; over is 8-4-4.

Blackhawks to sit Crawford, turn to Darling in Game 3

The Chicago Blackhawks will send backup Scott Darling to the crease in Game 3 Sunday against the Nashville Predators, per ESPN's Scott Powers.

The decision comes on the heels of starting netminder Corey Crawford allowing six goals Friday evening. Darling came into Game 1 in relief of Crawford, stopping all 42 shots he faced in a 4-3 victory. The series is tied at 1-1.

Books are currently dealing Chicago as -160 moneyline faves.

Preds D Weber will miss Games 3 and 4

All-Star defenseman Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators did not make the trip to Chicago with his teammates on Saturday and will miss Games 3 and 4 of their Western Conference playoff series against the Blackhawks.

Weber sustained a lower-body injury during the second period of the game Friday night and did not return.

Center Mike Fisher of the Predators, who left the opening game of the series because of a lower-body injury, made the trip but remains day-to-day.

The series is tied, 1-1, heading into Game 3 on Sunday.

Home ice providing nothing for Islanders

After splitting the first two games, the New York Islanders and the Washington Capitals head to Nassau Coliseum. What should be a home ice advantage has been anything but for the Islanders, as the team is 2-8 in their last 10 at home, one of the wins was against the terrible Buffalo Sabres.

In those eight losses though, the Isles have lost by only one goal in six of those occasions.

The series is 1-1, with the Islanders currently -140 Sunday.

NHL roundup: Lightning tie series vs. Detroit at 1-1

TAMPA, Fla. -- Tampa Bay Lightning coach Jon Cooper felt his team played well in a 3-2 loss in Thursday's playoff opener, so Saturday wasn't bouncing back as much as looking for more of the same.

The scoreboard looked much better for the Lightning, who got two goals from center Tyler Johnson on the way to a 5-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings at Amalie Arena.

"When you say 'bouncing back,' it sounds like you're saying we weren't very good in Game 1," Cooper said. "I thought we were pretty good in Game 1, and we continued with that. I'd like to see us coming out 2-0, but it's 1-1, and that's better than 0-2. So now we go win one on the road."

The series heads to third-seeded Detroit for Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Thursday. The teams split two games there during the season.

The five goals were the most allowed by the Red Wings in a playoff game since 2010.

        Blues 4, Wild 1

ST. LOUIS -- Right wing Vladimir Tarasenko scored his first career playoff hat trick and goalie Jake Allen stopped 24 of 25 Minnesota shots as St. Louis evened the first-round playoff series at a win each.

Game 3 of the best-of-seven series will be Monday night in Minnesota.

Tarasenko, who led the Blues with 37 goals during the season, had been held without a shot on goal in the Blues' Game 1 loss. But he made certain that didn't happen again Saturday, scoring his fifth and sixth career playoff goals in the first period before completing the hat trick with an empty-net goal with 17 seconds to play.

Tarasenko, playing his ninth career playoff game, became the first Blues player to record a hat trick in the playoffs since Mike Sillinger in 2004. It was the 13th playoff hat trick in franchise history.

Left wing Patrik Berglund scored the Blues' other goal. Defenseman Marco Scandella scored for Minnesota.

        Penguins 4, Rangers 3

NEW YORK -- Center Sidney Crosby scored a pair of second-period goals as the Penguins evened their best-of-seven series with New York.

Game 3 is Monday night in Pittsburgh.

Center Brandon Sutter and left winger Chris Kunitz also scored for the Penguins on Saturday, while goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 23 of 26 shots.

The Rangers received goals from centers Derek Stepan and Derick Brassard and left winger Rick Nash. Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist made 18 saves.

            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sunday's NHL Playoffs betting cheat sheet
            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Washington Capitals at New York Islanders (-140, 5.5)
            Series tied 1-1

After watching his team even its Eastern Conference first-round series without him, Braden Holtby plans to help the Washington Capitals gain the advantage when they visit the New York Islanders for Game 3 on Sunday afternoon. Sidelined with an illness, Holtby witnessed rookie Philipp Grubauer make 18 saves in his playoff debut and Jason Chimera score the go-ahead goal in the Capitals' 4-3 victory in Game 2 on Friday.

"I didn't stop shaking until 20 minutes after the game," said Holtby, who was able to take part in a brief practice on Saturday. Holtby had a good reason for his nerves as Washington yielded three of the first four goals on Friday before captain Alex Ovechkin scored late in the second period and Nicklas Backstrom and Chimera tallied nearly four minutes apart early in the third. "In the beginning we were pretty aggressive. We got a 3-1 lead and we got a little less aggressive," Islanders captain John Tavares said. "The second half of that game wasn't our best."

            TRENDS:

*Capitals are 4-0 in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.
*Islanders are 2-8 in their last 10 home games.
*Over is 5-0 in Capitals last 5 games playing on 1 days rest.
*Over is 4-1-1 in Islanders last 6 vs. Metropolitan.

Nashville Predators at Chicago Blackhawks (-160, 5)
            Series tied 1-1

The Nashville Predators came up with a huge performance in a must-win Game 2 of their Western Conference first-round playoff series, but they must go forward without their captain as the series shifts to Chicago on Sunday for Game 3 against the Blackhawks. Stud defenseman Shea Weber suffered a lower-body injury in Friday's 6-2 victory and will miss at least the next two games of the best-of-seven series that is tied at 1-1.

Weber, a four-time All-Star who has not missed more than four games in any of the past seven seasons, was hurt after taking a check from Chicago's Brandon Saad early in the second period of Game 2. "You certainly don't want to lose a guy who takes down as many minutes as (Weber) and the captain of your team,” Nashville coach Peter Laviolette. Chicago will be making a switch in net, replacing starter Corey Crawford with rookie Scott Darling. Crawford was yanked after surrendering three first-period goals in Game 1 and was lit up for six tallies in Game 2, including three in a span of 2:19.

            TRENDS:

*Predators are 20-6 in their last 26 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game.
*Blackhawks are 0-5 in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest.
*Over is 7-1-3 in Predators last 11 overall.
*Under is 3-0-1 in Blackhawks last 4 home games.

Montreal Canadiens at Ottawa Senators (-135, 5)
            Canadiens lead series 2-0

While "The Hamburglar" was all the rage over the final 2 1/2 months of the season, Ottawa Senators coach Dave Cameron may be changing his appetite as it relates to his starting goaltender. Whether Andrew Hammond or Craig Anderson gets the nod for Game 3 on Sunday is unknown as the host Senators look to climb back into their Eastern Conference first-round series with the Atlantic Division-champion Montreal Canadiens.

"I haven't made up my mind yet," Cameron told the Ottawa Sun after watching Hammond yield seven goals on 81 shots in the first two games of the series. Hammond performed markedly better in the regular season, sporting a scintillating 20-1-2 mark with a 1.79 goals-against average while limiting veteran Anderson to just two appearances despite competing in 23 playoff games. Montreal's Alex Galchenyuk doesn't have a great deal of postseason experience, but came through in the clutch by scoring 3:40 into overtime to win Game 2 on Friday. The tally was the 21-year-old's second career playoff overtime goal, with the other coming in the 2014 Eastern Conference final versus the New York Rangers.

            TRENDS:

*Canadiens are 2-8 in the last 10 meetings in Ottawa.
*Senators are 4-1 in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
*Over is 4-0-2 in Canadiens last 6 games following a win.
*Over is 20-7-3 in Senators last 30 home games.

Vancouver Canucks at Calgary Flames (-130, 5)
            Series tied 1-1

            ****************

            TRENDS:

*Canucks are 1-6 in their last 7 Conference Quarterfinals games.
*Flames are 5-1 in their last 6 games following a loss of 3 or more goals.
*Over is 5-2-4 in Canucks last 11 games playing on 1 days rest.
*Under is 6-1 in Flames last 7 home games.
