    Armadillo: Saturday's six-pack

-- RIP Hot Rod Hundley, the former West Virginia sharpshooter who was a beloved announcer for the Utah Jazz for many years.

-- Good to see Tim McCarver will be doing 40 games on TV for the Cardinals; he was really good when he worked every day for the Mets, not so much on network TV. That happens to lot of analysts; need to work a lot to be good.

-- Gonzaga 74, UCLA 62-- Zags get to first Final Four if they beat Duke Sunday.

-- Louisville 75, NC State 65-- Rick Pitino is a really, really good coach.

-- Duke 63, Utah 57-- Third foul on Utes' star Wright was a joke; was 2-point game when it happened. Duke then scored the next seven points.

-- Michigan State 62, Oklahoma 58-- Spartans were down double digits in first half.

Game of the Day: Kings at Wild
            ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Los Angeles Kings at Minnesota Wild (-120, 5)

The Minnesota Wild did the Los Angeles Kings an enormous favor on Friday night. But Los Angeles shouldn't expect the same charity themselves on Saturday as the Kings visit Minnesota looking to sweep the season series. The Wild have won four in a row, including a 4-2 triumph over Calgary on Friday that prevented the Flames from passing the idle Kings in the race for the third and final automatic playoff spot in the crowded Pacific Division standings.

The Wild can breathe easier with Friday's triumph - they're now six points clear of ninth-place Calgary in the Western Conference wild-card battle - but will be in tough against a Kings team that has been one of the hottest road clubs in the league of late. The Kings are a perfect 3-0-0 on their five-game road trip that ends Monday in Chicago. Minnesota is looking to unseat the Blackhawks for third place in the Central Division, sitting just one point behind.

            LINE HISTORY:
Most shops opened Minny as -120 moneyline faves, but that's been adjusted to -116 since.

            INJURY REPORT:
LA - Stoll (indefinitely), Voynov (suspended), Pearson (IR). MIN - Brodziak (questionable), Carter (questionable), Prosser (indefinitely), Cooke (early April), Zucker (IR), Ballard (IR).

            ABOUT THE KINGS (37-23-14):
Los Angeles has been one of the toughest home teams in the Western Conference, but knew that advantage wouldn't be enough if it continued to struggle on the road. The Kings have responded with their best stretch of the season away from Staples Center, registering points in seven straight road games (6-0-1) while allowing two or fewer goals in all but one of them. Jonathan Quick has made every start this month, and has been sensational - going 8-3-2 with a 1.88 goals-against average and two shutouts.

            ABOUT THE WILD (43-25-7):
It was a night of milestones for Minnesota, which saw two of its cornerstone forwards reach important plateaus. Thomas Vanek's game winner early in the third period was his 20th goal of the season, marking his 10th consecutive season with 20 or more tallies. Zach Parise effectively put the game away a short time later with a breakaway goal, his 30th of the season; he joined Marian Gaborik, Brian Rolston and Jason Pominville as the only Minnesota players to reach that plateau.

            TRENDS:

*Wild are 23-6 in their last 29 overall.
*Under is 15-6-5 in Wild last 26 games following a win.
*Under is 4-1-3 in Kings last 8 overall.
*Wild are 10-4 in their last 14 home games.

            CONSENSUS:
According to Consensus, 53 percent of bets are on the Kings.

NHL roundup: Wild strengthen position with win

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- Minnesota left winger Thomas Vanek scored the go-ahead goal in the third period as the Wild eked out a 4-2 win over the Calgary Flames on Friday.

In doing so, the Wild boosted their playoff chances while dealing a serious blow to Calgary's post-season hopes.

Defenseman Matt Dumba, left winger Zach Parise and center Mikko Koivu also scored for Minnesota, which got 23 saves from goalie Devan Dubnyk and moved within a point of the Chicago Blackhawks for third place in the Central Division.

Calgary, which could have overtaken the Los Angeles Kings for third place in the Pacific Division with a win, got goals from centers Josh Jooris and Markus Granlund, along with 31 saves from goalie Karri Ramo. With seven games remaining the Flames would miss the playoffs if they started today.

              Blue Jackets 5, Blackhawks 2

CHICAGO -- Right winger Cam Atkinson scored a hat trick to lead Columbus over Chicago.

Center Ryan Johansen and defenseman Kevin Connauton also scored for Columbus, which set a franchise record with its seventh straight road win. The Blue Jackets (35-35-4) increased their overall winning streak to five games and improved to 9-2-0 since March 6.

Left winger Brandon Saad and center Jonathan Toews scored for Chicago. The Blackhawks (44-24-6) dropped to 0-3-1 in the past four games.

Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky turned aside 31 of 33 shots to improve to 24-17-2. Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford was replaced in the first period after allowing four goals on 13 shots. Goaltender Scott Darling stopped 13 shots in relief.

              Oilers 4, Stars 0

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Faint hope deteriorated into no hope for Dallas after a devastating upset loss to Edmonton all but ended its flickering playoff hopes.

Edmonton took it to the visitors right off the bat, with right winger Jordan Eberle scoring 33 seconds after the opening faceoff. Center Derek Roy, winger Benoit Pouliot and center Andrew Miller also scored for Edmonton.

Goalie Richard Bachman finished with a 29-save shutout, while Kari Lehtonen stopped 24 of 28 shots in the loss.
