Armadillo: Monday's six-pack

--. Florida fired football coach Will Muschamp, but let him say he resigned and he'll coach the rest of the season. No one quits a job that pays that much.

-- Don't feel bad for Muschamp; he'll land as an SEC coordinator and those guys make as much as $1M a year, so he'll still be doing alright, no matter what.

-- San Jose State lost 13-0 at home to Hawai'i Saturday, but never punted; they had three turnovers, missed three FGs, lost ball three times on downs.

-- Seattle-KC game Sunday was first NFL game this year where both teams ran ball for more yards than they passed it. Old-time football.

-- Georgia RB Tood Gurley was suspended for getting some money for signing his name on memorabilia; he came back Saturday, then tore his ACL. Sad thing.

-- Six most popular picks in the Westgate Hotel handicapping contest, where some of the best handicappers in America put up $1,500 apiece, pick 5 games a week, are now 36-30 this year after going 4-2 Sunday

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up an NFL Sunday.......

13) Under is 10-3 so far this week, with an alarming shortage of touchdowns; with one game left this week, a total of only 44 TDs were scored by offenses in 13 games, compared to 64 in 13 games last weekend.

Of the four non-offensive TDs scored this week, three of them were scored by Green Bay in its 53-20 win over Philadelphia.

12) Texans 23, Browns 7-- JJ Watt caught a TD pass; Browns came up empty on two red zone drives and fell out of first in AFC North. Houston won Ryan Mallett's first NFL start. Cleveland had a kick return for TD called back by penalty; they were just 3-15 on third down conversions.

11) Bears 21, Vikings 13-- Minnesota led 10-0 early, but Chicago used their WRs' height to their advantage; Jeffery had 135 receiving yards, Marshall 90. Bears won 19 of 28 3rd downs in this game and that was a big part of the difference.

10) Packers 53, Eagles 20-- Philly got drubbed playing on short week, giving up two defensive TDs and a punt return TD. All four Green Bay TD drives were 80+ yards; they've scored 50+ points two games in row and outscored last four visitors to Green Bay by combined score of 128-9 in first half of those games.

9) Chiefs 24, Seahawks 20-- Marshawn Lynch stayed on the bench with trainers at halftime; they worked on a leg injury. He also refused to talk to reporters after game and could be fined $100K by the league. First drive by Chiefs, second drive for Seattle ate up total of 18:01, on 31 plays for 176 yards, which shortened game a great deal.

This game was first NFL contest this year where both teams ran ball for more yards than they passed it. Thats actually hard to believe, but it is true.

8) Falcons 19, Panthers 17-- Atlanta is 4-0 in divisional games, 0-6 against everyone but is now in first place in NFC South. At 4-6. Carolina missed a 46-yard FG with 1:27 left wide left, then had a 63-yarder tipped at the gun. Panthers are 1-7-1 in their last nine games, after starting season 2-0.

7) Bengals 27, Saints 10-- New Orleans has problems, losing second home game in row; this was an odd game where teams combined to convert 17 of 26 on third down, but game stayed under total by 13.5 points, with Saints' longest play only 17 yards. Everyone in AFC North is either 6-4 or 6-3-1; they're killing the NFC South teams-- so far this year, AFC North is 8-1-1 against NFC South (Bucs won at Pittsburgh).

6) Buccaneers 27, Redskins 7-- We're learning that the real star of LY's Texas A&M football team might've been WR Mike Evans, not Johnny Manziel. Evans caught seven balls for 209 yards and two TDs. Washington has a real dilemma with RGIII, who as one patron in the Westgate Theater said Sunday ".....RGIII looks awful today!!!!"

5) Rams 22, Broncos 7-- Rams played perfect defense, offense didn't screw anything up, hit one big play and an upset happened. Odd stat of the day: Rams are now 7-0 vs spread, 6-1 SU when I am in Las Vegas and they were underdog in six of seven games. Maybe I should move here. Ram DBs hit like Hall of Famers in this game.

4) 49ers 16, Giants 10-- When you turn ball over five times on 12 drives, go 3/out on four other drives, you're going to lose. 49ers scored only six points on three red zone drives, didn't recover an onside kick, butchered an easy FG, but escaped with a win. Aldon Smith's return meant a reduced role for Ahmad Brooks, who was not happy.

3) Chargers 13, Raiders 6-- Oakland fumbled on first play; Chargers scored couple plays after that and that was only TD all day. San Diego averaged only 5.0 ypp; they are having problems protecting Rivers, so they're reduced to shorter pass plays. Next week the Rams visit Qualcomm after beating Denver; should be a good game.

Chargers had 15-yard edge in field position in this game; teams with 10+-yard edge in field position are now 54-1 this season.

2) Cardinals 14, Lions 6-- Arizona is now 9-1 but will be an underdog in Seattle next week. This game had a scoreless second half. Detroit had only 11 first downs, was outgained by 95 yards, averaging only 4.8 ypa, half of what Arizona averaged. Best part about Bruce Arians is that he rarely stops attacking, on offense or defense.

1) Patriots 42, Colts 20-- Brady threw ugly INT at end of first half that let the Colts creep within 14-10, but Patriots were juggernaut in second half, scoring first four times they had ball (31 plays, 272 yards)- they ran ball for 244 yards, were more physical.

NCAAF opening line report: Motivated Baylor big home chalk vs. Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State at Baylor (-26.5)

After a stretch in which every weekend brought with it the next game of the year, Week 13 of the college football season doesn’t have a single game that screams out, “Marquee matchup.” But the games always matter to the bettors, no matter how big or small, and there are still some contests that could help shape the first-ever four-team playoff.

Baylor is in one of those contests, hosting an Oklahoma State squad that would love to play spoiler. The Bears (8-1 SU, 6-2-1 ATS) are coming off their bye week following a pair of blowout victories – 60-14 as a 34.5-point home favorite over Kansas, and a 48-14 upset of Oklahoma as a 5.5-point underdog.

The Cowboys (5-5 SU, 3-7 ATS) had much higher aspirations this year, but they drove their season into the ditch with four consecutive blowout losses – 42-9 at Texas Christian, 34-10 against West Virginia, 48-14 at Kansas State and 28-7 to visiting Texas on Saturday.

“The Cowboys are in a freefall and don’t appear focused to finish the season,” said John Lester, senior lines manager for bookmaker.eu. “Baylor has to be feeling good coming off a bye and a trouncing of Oklahoma. There is also the added motivation to move up in the college football playoff ranking. They’ll be out for blood here, and the bettors will lay the hefty chalk."

“We’re also expecting a ton of teaser liability on the Bears so we had to inflate this line.”

Boston College Eagles at Florida State Seminoles (-20)

You’d think Florida State’s luck would run out at some point, but the Seminoles (10-0 SU, 3-7 SU) have now won 26 in a row SU. The defending national champs trailed 16-0 at Miami early in the second quarter Saturday, but pulled out a 30-26 win and cover as a 1.5-point fave.

Boston College (6-4 SU and ATS) enters off its bye week, after a 38-19 home loss to Louisville as a 3-point pup.

“The Seminoles keep playing with fire, and eventually they’ll get burned, but probably not this week,” Lester said. “It’s a sandwich spot for Florida State, with Florida on deck, but I actually think the Seminoles show up here. Boston College coach Steve Addazio admits his squad is a work in progress, and it’ll do well to stay within three scores.”

Vanderbilt Commodores at Mississippi State Bulldogs (-29.5)

Mississippi State was finally dealt its first loss of the season, leaving no teams unblemished in the Southeastern Conference. The Bulldogs (9-1 SU, 6-4 ATS), perhaps surprisingly 10-point underdogs at Alabama on Saturday, rallied from a 19-3 deficit but fell short 25-20.

Still, the Bulldogs remain in the thick of the four-team playoff chase, so Vanderbilt could be the perfect bounce-back opponent. The Commodores (3-7 SU, 5-5 ATS) come in rested, with a week off after a 34-10 home loss to Florida catching 14.5 points.

While many will view this game as a letdown for Mississippi State, I think they’ll avoid the hangover. Dan Mullen is a great coach who will have his kids ready, knowing that there’s still an opportunity to get into the playoff,” Lester said. “Vandy will be well prepared off the bye and can probably keep this contest inside the number.”

Southern California Trojans at UCLA Bruins (-3)

The battle for Los Angeles bragging rights will feature two fresh teams, with USC having played last Thursday and UCLA coming off its bye week. The Bruins (8-2 SU, 3-7 ATS) have won four in a row SU (2-2 ATS), including a 44-30 victory at Washington laying 6 points. The Trojans (7-3 SU, 6-4 ATS) fended off California 38-30, falling short as a hefty 14-point fave.

“You have to love the Victory Bell rivalry, and the pranks are often the best part,” Lester said. “But this one should be good because we have two very evenly matched teams. UCLA controls its own destiny to play in the Pac-12 championship, while USC can get there if certain scenarios play out. There’s no shortage of motivation on either side, obviously, and we see this as a classic tossup.”

Lightning becoming a fantastic Over play

Only one game is on tap for Monday in the NHL, but it's a clash of two of the top squads in the Eastern Conference.

Tampa Bay travels to The Big Apple for a date with the New York Rangers, and there's one particular trend totals bettors need to be aware of before the puck drops.

The Over is 9-2 in the Lightning's last 11 contests. The Blueshirts are currently slight -109 faves on the moneyline with a total of 5.5.

Candiens extend win streak to six

The Montreal Canadiens topped the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 Sunday to extend their win streak to six consecutive games.

The Habs have used the streak to climb to the top of the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 14-4-1, accumulating 29 points.

The quest for a seventh straight win won't be easy as the Canadiens host the Metropolitan Division leading Pittsburgh Penguins Tuesday.

Wild send Falk, Schroeder to Iowa

After their 4-3 overtime win against the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday, the Minnesota Wild reassigned defensemen Justin Falk and center Jordan Schroeder to their AHL affiliate in Iowa.

Falk, 26, was recalled Friday and played in the Wild's 2-1 win at Dallas on Saturday.

The 24-year-old Schroeder was recalled on Wednesday and appeared in one game.

Oilers remove Hall from IR

The Edmonton Oilers activated forward Taylor Hall from the injured reserve list, the team announced Sunday.

Hall has been out with a medial collateral ligament injury. He sustained the injury when he crashed into the Vancouver Canucks' net during the Oilers' 3-2 loss on Nov. 1.

Hall has six goals and four assists in 11 games this season.

Also, the Oilers assigned defenseman Oscar Klefbom and winger Iiro Pakarinen to the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL.
