Road team dominating between Flames-Blue Jackets

Home-ice advantage has had the opposite effect when the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets meet. In the past eight meetings between the Flames and Jackets, the road team is 7-1.

The road team has outscored the hosts 29-17 over that span, which averages out to the visiting team scoring 1.5 more goals per average per game.

Wild have been losing close games to Ducks

Even though the Minnesota Wild has kept games versus the Anaheim Ducks close, they have been failing to win. The Wild are 1-6 in their past seven contests against the Ducks.

Minnesota has lost four of those six losses by only one goal and have only been outscored 18-13 during that seven game span.

              NHL

              Friday, October 17

Home teams go nearly flawless on Thursday

With road teams opening the season strong in the NHL, home teams took back their rinks. The host squads went 6-1 on the ice Thursday.

Home teams outscored the visitors 26-16 with the Islanders, Capitals, Canadiens and Senators all scoring four or more goals in front of their home crowd.

There are six NHL games on tap for Friday.

Six games in, Bruins still winless against puckline

After a season of dominance last year, the Boston Bruins are coming out of the gate slumping. The Bruins have opened the season 2-4 straight-up, but 0-6 against the puckline.

Last season Boston had a respectable 44-38 record against the puckline, good for ninth in the NHL.

Boston has only scored 11 goals so far this season.

Predators the perfect combo for under plays

For total plays, the Nashville Predators offer a perfect combination of stifling defense and low scoring offense. Though the Preds have only played three games, they have yet to top the total.

Nashville has scored nine goals and has only allowed six this season. All three of the Preds games have ended with five goals.

The Preds travel to Winnipeg Friday.

Oilers poor defense has been a boon for overs

The Edmonton Oilers have had defensive problems for years after constantly investing in their forwards, which has paid out for bettors early this season. All four games the Oilers played this season have topped the total.

Edmonton has scored a mere 11 goals so far this season, compared to the 23 they've allowed.

The Oilers host the Vancouver Canucks Friday with the total set at 5.5.

Top over play, Islanders, stay unbeaten

Even though the season is young, there is not bigger surprise than the undefeated New York Islanders. Along with the Isles 4-0 start, they are also the top over play in the NHL with every game they've been in going over.

The revitalized offense on Long Island is the reason for the over boon. Over four games the Isles have potted 19 goals, which is almost five goals per game.

Hey Udog--Both World Series Teams are wild-card teams this year. While I have a lot of respect for the SF Giants organization, and I really like what the Royals have done this year, I don't think either of them really deserve to be in the World Series. They didn't play well enough during the regular season. Used to be the regular season decided who was in the World Series. The best team in the National League played the best team in the American league. The winner was the World Champion. There was a lot of excitement around the games. They were played in the daytime when people could listen to them at work or at school. I used to let the kids listen to the games on their radios in study hall. We used to have office pools on which inning the winning run would score. It was fun....it's not that way anymore.
